[Verse 1: Zach Bryan] Rot gut whiskey's gonna ease my mind Beach towel rests on the dryin' line Do I remind you of your daddy in his '88 Ford? Labrador hangin' out the passenger door The sand from your hair is blowin' in my eyes Blame it on the beach, grown men don't cry Do you remember that beat down basement couch? I'd sing you my love songs and you'd tell me about How your mama ran off and pawned her ring I remember, I remember everything [Chorus: Zach Bryan] A cold shoulder at closing time You were bеggin' me to stay 'til the sun rose Strangе words come on out Of a grown man's mouth when his mind's broke Pictures and passin' time You only smile like that when you're drinkin' I wish I didn't, but I do Remember every moment on the nights with you [Verse 2: Kacey Musgraves] You're drinkin' everything to ease your mind But when the hell are you gonna ease mine? You're like concrete feet in the summer heat It burns like hell when two souls meet No, you'll never be the man that you always swore But I'll remember you singin' in that '88 Ford [Chorus: Kacey Musgraves, Both, Zach Bryan] A cold shoulder at closing time You were beggin' me to stay 'til the sun rose Strange words come on out Of a grown man's mouth when his mind's broke Pictures and passin' time You only smile like that when you're drinkin' I wish I didn't, but I do Remember every moment on the nights with you Cold shoulder at closing time You were beggin' me to stay 'til the sun rose Strange words come on out Of a grown man's mouth when his mind's broke Pictures and passin' time You only smile like that when you're drinkin' I wish I didn't, but I do Remember every moment on the nights with you [Outro: Zach Bryan] Rot gut whiskey's gonna ease my mind Beach towel rests on the dryin' line Do I remind you of your daddy in my '88 Ford? @cg7800 Жыл бұрын
Sometimes, the fracturing of the mind from a heartbreak or other significant loss can precipitate alcohol and drug use. Even a strong mind can encounter something unmanageable. So, the "mind's broke" part can just as likely be a precursor to "alcoholic" as it can be the derivative. "You only smile when you're drinkin" could be because getting to a point, he is reminiscing about the past when things were happy, or that he drank enough to forget so a temporary relief finally arrived. Interpretation is up to the listener, but to my ear, this could just as easily be at the beginning of a problem as it could be about a well established one. Great song either way. @@TheSaltySunflower

I’m an alcoholic… been sober most of my adult life. Product of the opiate epidemic and then it led to alcohol. This breaks me. I’ve been sober 41 days. Two years ago I relapsed when I found out my kiddo wasn’t mine… lost my wife, son and my step-son all in one day. Found out after we divorced I couldn’t have kiddos. It broke me… stayed drunk for roughly 600 days and almost died again. I’m prouder of these 42 days than 14 1/2 years of sobriety in past of 17 1/2 years of my life.

It’s worth it! My bf almost ended his life by over drinking among other things. One day I noticed his eyes were yellow(liver failure). I dragged him to the ER. He was told to stop or his life would be cut short. He worked on becoming sober. And when he relapsed I’d help him stop again. And when he got urges I’d use the little martial arts I picked up from him over the years and pinned him. If you’ve watched the Johnny Cash movie(the getting sober scene); same idea. He’s been sober for 4 years now.🫶🏻 It took teamwork but he made it through. I’m proud of him. He’s happier now. His extra inspiration to stay sober is our 16 month old daughter. I’m grateful he’s here today after that scare; just celebrated our 14 years together(high school sweethearts). I know you can do it! We’d be proud of you!🖤

My body doesn't take alcohol well. I can't even enjoy more than one glass of wine in a fancy French restaurant. So I will never be able to have enough drink to become an alcoholic. Besides, none of my family and friends are alcoholics either. However, one doesn't have to have any alcoholic related experiences to love this song. It has incredible layers and touches us at different levels. Maybe it hits one or two less layers in my case but it still hits hard. Their beautiful voices have kept this song genuine and a masterpiece.
