Those Grit and Grind Grizzlies were one of the few teams I've ever seen that weren't championship bound but could literally beat any team at any seed.
@lloydrobertson55083 жыл бұрын
If the Grizzlies had drafted Steph Curry or James Harden in 2009, instead of Hasheem Thabeet, the Grit and Grind era teams would have won at least one NBA championship, and maybe more. In 2013, the Grizzlies made it to the Western Conference Finals.

@lloydrobertson55083 жыл бұрын
I disagree. Zach was a star and key scoring option for the Grizzlies, while D-Fish was not a star on the Lakers, and the offensive never went through him. (Shaq, Kobe, Pau). Pau helped Kobe win two more championships, and the Lakers announced recently that they will be retiring Pau's number 16 alongside Kobe's 8 and 24 banners.
@stevenbrown69563 жыл бұрын
You can't really compare Z-Bo to Fisher because the state of the two franchises. The Lakers are a storied franchise that has won multiple championships and many of the greatest players in history have played for the Lakers ( Kareem, LeBron, Magic, Kobe, Elgin, West, Shaq, Worthy, etc), so their standards are different because of the history. The Grizzlies on the other hand, is still a relatively new franchise. They were terrible in Vancouver and many years when they first got to Memphis. Eventually Hubie Brown, along with Pau Gasol turned the franchise into respectability by making the playoffs...but they were swept and never won a playoff game, let alone a series. Zach comes to Memphis and they instantly become the real deal, now they are winning playoff games and series. They still didn't make the finals, but Memphians enjoyed the Grit n Grind era and Zach was the best player. The things he did in the community also made Memphis embrace Zach. On the outside looking in it may seem odd his jersey was retired, but Memphians wanted to show appreciation for his community work and making the Grizzlies a legitimate NBA franchise that no team wanted to play.

Fisher changed no one's culture. Zbo, TA, Marc, and Mike did, went from 0-12 in first round games to 1 WCF, 2 Semis in 7 playoff appearances, in one of the smaller markets in the league that had few if any of the advantages of LA. Having the Core 4 of the Grit and Grind Grizzlies eventually retired is deserved and symbolic of the overlooked nature of their teams.
