My Analysis: Zach played well enough to win but offense continues to have miscues that he is unable to overcome. - Drive 1 ends with intentional grounding (settle for FG) - Drive 2 ends with a Uzomah hold (settle for FG) - Drive 3 ends after Zach steps out on 3, Uzomah negates following Breece TD (settle for FG) - Drive 4 ends on 3 and out after 3 runs (Rodgers shakes head at play call before snap) - Drive 5 Lazard slows up on route on 3rd down - Jets punt and Raiders score before half after Huff penalty HALFTIME - Drive 6 coming out after half, MC chop block kills drive - Drive 7 False start on Tippmann kills drive - Drive 8 Becton gives up sack, Becton jumps on fumble - Drive 9 Garrett Wilson misses Lazard for wide open TD. (why is he throwing with hurt arm? settle for FG) - Drive 10 Jets got ball back after Raiders fumble in FG range - Drive 11 Zach throws RedZone INT - Drive 12 Zach throws Hail Mary, Conklin puts hand up to prevent Garrett Wilson miracle catch This game is on the coaching staff

I agree with you, Zach played well enough to win. The issue was definitely the penalties and the Jets shooting themselves in the foot.

@15myhomes41 I said the drive ended after Zach stepped out on the 3 and Uzomah caused a holding penalty. There were 100% Garrett drops, one along the sideline would have been a hell of a grab but I could have included that since the INT may not have happened.

I agree, Zach Wilson played well enough. If he had not thrown the interception, everyone with a brain would have pointed to the penalties for the loss. He gave them multiple chances. If the game ends with a touchdown on the Hail Mary, they would say Garrett Wilson won them that game instead of Zach Wilson. (I don't trust the NY media to give him props when Zach actually plays well). Jets have a good WR1, No WR 2, Decent TEs, Bad discipline with penalties, and an Oline that cant pass protect for long, or establish a run game. Lazard is not a good pass catcher PERIOD. Even with Rodgers in GB. He almost dropped the no-look from Zach and he has had multiple big drops this season. 😏 In order to properly evaluate Zach, the Jets need to give him weapons. Garret and Breece are the only WEAPONS he has right now, the rest are decent or not good.

That throw at 12:17 is fucking remarkable. Any athletic level you play at…this is absurd. Zach didn’t lose us this game in all honesty. He played his heart out…Lazard, Uzomah, our O-line single handedly cost us this game. So many drops, holding calls, false starts…everything imaginable. I can’t fathom what they’re doing behind the scenes to fix this…Hackett is awful and Saleh clearly is no offense guru. This season is slowly slipping away and Zach is the scapegoat for Jets fans…

I'm really not a Zach fan, for every throw like the one you posted there's a mind-numbingly stupid play, like the early intentional grounding that doesn't even resemble football. With that said.. Hackett is indeed awful and just like in Denver, he's limiting his quarterback to half of the field to try and erase interceptions, which makes it impossible to play even average offensive football. I don't think the Jets would be that much better if Zach were allowed to throw because I think he'd throw quite a few more interceptions, but at least they'd have a shot and it wouldn't be so boring to watch.

You know what, throws like that aren't even that rare for him - as far back as the game against the Cowboys he made Micah Parsons miss without taking his eyes off the field, but the second pass rusher got him. What's he do? Takes the hit, and while his body is at a 45 degree angle on its way to the ground, manages to throw the ball 20+ yards to hit Lazard in the hands, Who leaps for no detectable reason (the pass was about neck-high), allowing the CB to shove him out of bounds.

I've observed that a lot of non-Jets fans are supporting and defending Zach Wilson because the whole world now knows how horrible our entire offense is and that if you remove 17 and 20, this entire office utterly sucks and that no quarterback can rescue our offense from silly penalties. Finally, Hackett had Garrett Wilson chuck a pass with an injured hand. We also have a quarterback who, according to his teammates can windmill slam dunk a basketball 360, but we don't have any offensive design runs for him, especially in the red zone. Again, you can't make this stuff up.
@jessejordache1869
@jessejordache1869 6 ай бұрын
I don't like designed runs with the line being what it is. The same line that's forcing Wilson to get hit every time he throws the ball is also preventing Breece from running the ball, but if you can throw Breece past the line, he can take it to the house. Yet they only give him two or three screens or slants a game.

@@solarmus923 Yeah, I don't know why Hackett is so in love with nakeds, which are built on trickery, and never runs bootlegs which move the pocket. @jessejordache1869 6 ай бұрын
True, but it's hard to criticize Garrett Wilson when he saves passes that have no room for error because they're into a double-team. Also, failure begets failure. When did Breece Hall start dropping so many screen passes? I don't know, but it was probably after another player started dropping passes first. Then Lazard gets a penalty problem and now the whole team has it. It's hard to be the only player busting your ass, outside of Zach Wilson, who's gone from throwing short passes into the dirt last year to not putting enough loft on his passes in situations that call for it. Other than that, he's getting drilled on every throw, and then gets back up to do it again. I don't understand what the "it's Zach's fault" crew are looking at.

Multiplicative probabilities will kill you every time. It's not that they get called back every single time, but there's about a 40% chance it'll happen. Now multiply that over an 8 or 9 play drive and it's a near certainty. Although I doubt I'm alone in thinking "well, this should be automatic, but somehow I know we're going to be backed up to the 13 one way or the other" at first and goal at the three.

Kid played his heart out. Was it perfect ? of course not. But could he have gotten a little more help from the rest of the offense without a doubt. Why are we not blaming the O-Line for not being able to get the run game going. Breece had 13 carries for 28 yards rushing. We know what we have with Zach Wilson he’s not the next Tom Brady but when he throw 39 pass attempts he’s showing he can make plays. The way he kept the last play of the game alive goes to show how much he has grown. Gotta give credit for everything he’s overcome in this NY atmosphere. Wilson fails, Darnold fails at this point it falls on the big guys upstairs for continuing the consistent failure on offense

As I watch this film I see Zach making some AMAZING throws, often with dogs nipping at his heals. Jump passes, side arms, good stuff. Not even Tom Brady could overcome a major penalty on every drive oh yea and some passes that should have been caught. Did the pic hurt? Yup. Could Lazard have prevented that? YUP. This one was not on Zach, he played well more than he played poorly, by a lot. He ran well a couple of times. Zach's QB play should've been good enough to win this game. A couple of freakish athletic throws mixed in. Uzzomah should be cut; dropped a TD last week and took a TD off the board this week, the offense needs to be sent a message and he is a net-negative anyway.

Dude, what's with the commentator at 2:05 criticizing this choice? He hit Garret right in the hands. Commentator says to go to Breece, but one of the best LBs in the nation is coming downhill on him, and likely if he throws that it's a 1 yard gain at best. Garret seems to be the only receiver who wants to catch the ball. And yeah, he had a few crucial drops in this game, but no one else has hands on the whole team.

I didn't hear that as a criticism. It seemed like he was saying that GW and Breece are his most reliable players. Collinsworth has criticized Zach a couple of times for trying to read both sides of the field in HANK/symmetrical type plays instead of picking just one "if you're a third year quarterback, that's just too much to take on", although if the two plays on one side of the field are covered, I'm not sure what he's supposed to do, but take it on, ready or not. But Collinsworth isn't Aikman -- if he says "first read", it's probably because it was the first read.

Zach Wilson is the NY Sports Media's favorite whipping boy, but NOTHING brings the torches and pitchforks out when the team as a whole plays badly. At Dallas (where he was arguably the best player on the team) and against the Chargers, if you listen to sports radio, it's like half the town wants to see him hanged. Speaking of which, can we ban "The definition of insanity is doing the same thing and expecting different results" in the context of professional sports? Because even if they didn't mean "keeping the same QB", sports are probabilistic, which makes that statement moronic. Literally every team in the league does the same thing and expects different results -- the ones that pull the trigger early, like the Jets, flounder around in the basement because there's no chance for chemistry to develop. SB49 aside, I think the Seahawks are a well run team. Do they start firing players after a loss? Of course not. In a given season, they're almost a model of continuity.

The film showed that Zach Wilson can play the QB position adequately; However, the Jets need to let him go elsewhere, where they know how to use him and give him the proper guidance and offensive supporting cast to take that next step. I want him playing for the Jets. He went from missing short passes about 50% of the time last year to often not putting the necessary amount of loft under the ball. His ability to throw with tacklers in his face is unmatched.

As a jets fan I honestly think that Zach will not be with us past his rookie contract which is sad considering that he has the talent but is with a bottom 5 ownership organization. If the Patriots, Falcons, Vikings, Raiders, Seahawks or Rams saw him available I would bet that especially the Rams or Vikings could turn his career around and would pick him up on a cheap contract. He is still young. He needs to have an offensive minded head coach that will succeed as he does (and not leave to go coach another team...see what happened to Josh Allen after Daboll left). The Jets ownership and past decisons are what kept Zach from ever being developed. No matter which pick he was drafted at, he was never developed!

People are still going to say it was all on Zach Wilson and he was the reason why we lost, to bench him, etc.. Yet people don't want to acknowledge all of the other issues and problems that prevent Zach from actually playing well. Last night, again, was not on him. He had over 300 yards of offense himself between his passing yards at 260 and being the leading rusher at over 50 yards for the game, which was as much as Hall and Cook combined. The play calling is abysmal, a drive where you just run up the middle 3 times in a row that all get stuffed for nothing is just insane. Why continue trying to force something that isnt working and hasnt worked behind this line for 3 weeks now? I just dont see any week to week adjustments in game plans from Hackett and this coaching staff to actually adjust and fix what they need to work on. Saleh, the same issue. Penalties are an issue now, week in, week out, and he keeps saying "gotta work on it," then work on it. Guys are holding in situations they dont have to, theyre late hitting players out of bounds and the quarterback, its ridiculous. I hope they make a change at the end of the year at head coach.

Why do I have the feeling if he gets traded or released the jets are going to look bad for letting him go? If he had the kind of team around him that Mahomes, Purdy or Hurts did he might very well be a top QB. Maybe not, I don't know but there is some intriguing ability there, it's hard to tell because the Jets are just bad on the field and on the sidelines.

We lost 7 points on penalties (Huff and CJ), in a game where we were down by 4. If either penalty does not happen, we would be in the red zone and run out the clock.

Opening day OL starters: LT Duane Brown, LG Laken Tomlinson, C Connor McGovern, RG Alijah Vera-Tucker, RT Mekhi Becton. Yesterday's OL starters: LT Becton, LG Tomlinson, C Tippmann, RG Newman, RT Mitchell. Things seemed to have gone awry since the McGovern/Tippmann/Schweitzer injuries. Obviously AVT being out for another year is a huge blow. Zach isn't experienced enough to go to his 2nd and 3rd reads, having a good OL is crucial for his success, as well as the running game as a whole. I don't see the OL improving much this season, sad to say. Maybe Duane Brown coming back and putting Becton on the right side is the answer? I don't really know.

Jets have utilized their whole roster of players all they really have Zach Wilson to throw to is Garret Wilson and Lazard and Lazard drops a lot of balls. On good day Lazard is a 2 receiver. Competition makes everybody better. You can't keep using the same guys all the time behind Garret Wilson. When they are under performing.

I want to criticize Zach Wilson but fans who blame him for everything, disregarding injury/bad offensive lines, no consistent run game, drive killing drops/penalties, and no separation WRs, are making it difficult. My issue with Zach Wilson on the interception was that he decided Lazard was even an option to catch the ball. Lazard had one catch, a beautiful spiral that he managed [edit to manger because auto correct sucks] to bobble.

I blame Zach because he knew Lazard couldn’t catch the ball if it had glue all over it, it had a magnet inside and one in Lazard’s pocket, it had a built in homing pigeon only for Lazard, and it had built in suspensors so it couldn’t touch the ground. I would put the raiders player that intercepted the ball ahead of Lazard and Cobb on the WR depth chart.

@@JetsTalk247 I actually didn't like that penalty -- the pass rusher wasn't engaged with the tackle. They weren't even facing one another. Once MIchael Carter went low, the rusher started to drag Becton along with him to induce the penalty. In basketball it's called a "flop". It's got the same problem as the game-changing dpi against Sauce Gardner: the contact was initiated by the receiver who ran directly into Gardner; the result was the two of them all over each other. Rather than viewing the events as a continuous process, it was like the ref decided "okay, I'm going to start counting contact.... now." It's hard to see how it's a chop block when Carter goes low and THEN the guy Carter's blocking turns just enough to make contact with Becton. Is a cut blocker supposed to dive out of the way?

Zack Wilson made some beautiful throws but it’s the throws he didn’t make that was the difference. The throw to Lazard that was intercepted was late . There was a moment in this game the Jets had the Raiders spread out at the goal line Wilson had a receiver with man coverage to his left with the safety and linebacker inside. Easy TD on a slant and we run the ball because that was the called play. A decent QB makes that check 10 out of 10 times. We have no shot with this kid

Tons of penalties obviously falls on Hackett, who is a disaster and just as bad as advertised. Just like in Denver, he doesn't trust his QB not to throw interceptions (because he can't scheme any good plays for him), so he just cuts the field in half and makes it impossible to play winning football. Now, I'm not a fan of Sean Payton, but anyone can see that Russell Wilson is playing decently under his scheme. Zach isn't a good QB but he could probably be average if he had a halfway decent coach. Rob Saleh is not it, if you can't be the leader for the offense and the defense you're not the HEAD coach. But of course, what else is new, the Jets haven't had a coach like that since Parcells. Another depressing season in the Woody Johnson era. The Jets will never win while they have this yokel and his brother in charge, Woody is a trust-fund baby who has never had to earn anything, all you have to do to get hired by him is speak in platitudes that sound great but don't actually contribute to meaningful football ("all gas, no brakes", "smash-mouth football"). The jury is still somewhat out on Joe Douglas, who has made some amazing decisions (DJ Reed, the first four picks in 2022, a lot of good defensive line signings) and some flat-out atrocious ones (drafting a certain quarterback).

First drive: Intentional Grounding on Wilson. Killed the drive. Small dumpoff pass to Michael Carter was way high he couldn't corral it Second drive: Garret Wilson dropped 3rd and 18 ball. It wouldn't have gotten 1st down but could have gotten them closer Third drive: Missed runnin in the TD by stepping. On third and goal throwing to Michael Carter with 2 guys already on top him ball deflected so no chance Fourth drive: Got running 1st down but if he ran inside instead of running off the field he could have gotten another 20 yards. Gipson was open if he hits him he is GONE. Then MC chop block. Fifth drive: Dead drive nothing but penalties and punt Sixth drive: Sailed a pass. Penalties. Punt Seventh drive: Holding the ball. Gets sacked. Fumbles. Overthrow. Dead drive Eighth drive: Decent drive. Had a good idea for Garrelt Wilson to throw if he hits it it would have been a TD. Then Z Wilson throws behind RB. Field goal Ninth drive: Okay drive then a shot at Garret Wilson but as ALWAYS underthrown and floats hard for GW. Tenth drive: Okay but Wilson was off target few times. And then throws predictable INT Last drive: Salah takes time out 7 seconds lost. Second last heave outside EZ bad throw. Last one a good throw but Conklin plays the Defensive Back and GW misses ISSUE IS STILL ZACH WILSON. HE SUCKS. EVERY SET OF NEW DOWNS HE MAKES BAD THROWS CAUSING FOR OFFENSE TO NEVER HAVE RHYTHM. "the predictable INT" lol. Also, if you look carefully, at the run where he stepped out at the three, his path to the endzone was being cut off by "tacklers", forcing him to aim for the pylon to have any chance of scoring. If you squint just right you can see them -- they're roughly the same size as Jets players, but they wear black and silver. Their job is to tackle or force a player out of bounds, which ends the play. Although I suppose it's fair to say that his RB technique isn't up to professional standards -- it's almost like he's not a running back. Also, Zach has to throw with multiple defenders on him. He's not Joe Burrow, calmly assessing the field for five seconds. You know how Breece Hall is averaging just slightly over 3 yards per carry over the past 4 games? We'll cover the offensive line over the course of the next several sessions. Watch more film.

Zack Wilson has been the worst QB in the NFL since he came into the league. The defenders of him just roll through the rolodex of excuses for him instead of just admitting the obvious - he STINKS. They want him to throw more in the red zone, he throws a game losing INT (a REAL bad one off his back foot - something rookies eventually stop doing) and they blame Lazard. Lazard, who they loved when signed by the way.

@jessejordache1869
@jessejordache1869 6 ай бұрын
The key to his inconsistency is how many defenders are in his face. It's easier -- and this is just a general rule; don't take this as gospel or anything -- to throw when you're not being dragged down by another player. Still confused? Okay try this: Breece Hall went from nearly 6 yards a carry over the first 5 games to just over 3 over the last 4. Now, as you know, it's not PC to criticize Breece Hall or say he sucks -- Zach Wilson is the NY Sports Media's designated target. But, a lot of people have been wondering, "why is Breece Hall getting stopped after short gains. Is it Zach?" No. Breece Hall is playing under similar conditions to Zach Wilson: just like a quarterback's play is highly dependent on players to "block" the other team's defense attempting to tackle him, a running back's play is highly dependent on having "blockers" to get him past those exact same players. In football, a healthy offensive line with "blockers" is very important. I'd be happy to help you with any other football related concepts.
