ZW gets more hate than any other qb. Probably cuz Jets fans overreact about everything. He's gonna be fine, and if he can fix his headspace I think he'll be great.

I am no professional football analyst, but: I think people always turn to the negatives. In this case, it's the 3 picks. And they were brutal. However, you cannot say that he didn't have some throws that looked great. I say give him time. Or maybe patience just isn't a virtue when it comes to developing players.

I've been a huge fan of his since his college years, I'm starting to worry though that he just doesn't have the mental toughness for the league. I know he has the physical abilities. The missed throws seem obvious to me that he is nervous and tight and it affects his accuracy. I also see that after he makes one mistake it throws off his decision making the rest of the game. He gets hesitant and then makes last second bad decisions.

*Long post incoming* Context on a Monday 1) Oline is a problem, and only the blind will say it isn't. Against vanilla 4 man rushes they hold up ok, but once the PATS started using more stunts and zone blitzes they crumbled. Matthew Judon was having a field day on our tackles. Brown struggled again today, and overall tackles (since AVT went out) need to play better. Couldn't get anything going in the run game today which made us 1 dimensional and they don't look cohesive (understandably so) 2) Zach had an up & down day, only differences were that his down's were game changing. When pocket is clean, Zach can deliver and move the chains. He made some elite throws today which give a lot of optimism. When pressured, he's probably one of the worst QB's in the league at the moment. Pats were getting home in the 2nd half, and they did a good job in making sure Wilson couldn't step up in the pocket. Even when escaping, there weren't many opportunities for zach to run (except that 4th&5) as pats started keeping contain better. The picks were bad, not much to say about that. 1st one caused by pressure, but he could have done better with the throw by seeing how much it sailed. 2nd one, decision was correct but execution was terrible and needed to make that decision quicker or run out of bounds. 3rd one was hero ball mentality, don't know what he was doing. I think the Jets are in his ears about running since the injury which is why he's dancing behind the LOS, but he just needs throw the ball out the stadium if there is nothing there. 3)Special teams was awful, field positioning battle was terrible the entire game, shanked punts and kick offs, terrible KO & punt coverage, missed field goals, running out kicks in the endzone that didn't need to be run, anything that could go wrong did today and it was the worst outing of the season. Really had an impact on the game and at the minimum had a 10 point+ impact if we executed. 4)Jets got out-coached , and badly in the 2nd half. Gave up on the run which directly affects effectiveness of play action (only 15 run plays the entire game?) MC needs to run the ball more than 7 times. No RPO usage? Jeff Smith/Berrios utilization over Moore?(who admittedly deserves to be in the dog house for a bit even though I like Moore). Don't think I saw a single screen the entire day? RB blitz pickup leaves alot to be desire, might as well have Uzoma in the back field at this point if they aren't releasing for a route. On defense, we got killed by the same plays over and over. 3 step drop, throws to flat with blockers, 1st down. 3 step drop, throw to stevenson, breaks 3329 tackles, 1st down. I have never seen a goal line front since ulbrich has taking over and I can't stand only having 4 down linemen on obvious run plays or on the goal line. Safety tackling leaves a lot to be desired, combined with our tackling in general. Overall, the loss stings because we were the more talented team, but couldn't put it together. We just need to go back to lab and get ready for Buffalo. I think they'll watch the film and learn from this game and see how this game could have been completely different. Silver lining was despite all the miscues, we were competitive till the the end which is a far cry from last year and should give optimism for the future.

I’m a Bears fan and I’m glad we got Justin Fields but I must say, Zach has a really nice arm and if the Jets implement a little of what Bears coaches are doing with Justin (schemed RPO’s), he may ease into becoming a better pocket passer in the near future once he gets comfortable. @@Geeandrezzi Justin is very similar in that he’s not that comfortable on the pocket and it’s understandable because the Bears o-line is terrible so what coaching did was scheme RPO’s in which the line moves with Justin as he’s going to throw on the run and it has worked (clearly noticeable in the last two games for Justin). It’ll open up more plays and both quarterbacks will start to feel more comfortable throwing in the pocket but it takes time which is why you can’t be inpatient with Zach

He definitely has the arm talent, some of the throws were fantastic, and he has nice escape ability like a young Russell Wilson or Kyler Murray. He just needs to play under more control and not try to be a hero everytime he drops back. @@Bigbadwoo I agree with you. It's a tough one with Zach. He's more gifted than Manziel, Clausen, Rosen, etc. But his personality is along those lines. Grew up a privileged kid in a bubble in Utah.. had top spot in all QB camps growing up. You can have $ growing up and be a down-to-earth person, but generally these kids aren't. Especially nowadays. The thing is though, you see throws where he looks like Rodgers/Mahomes and he's only 23. So I can understand wanting to be patient. I just don't think he's a fit in NY. Eli wasn't the best QB in the world, but he fit NY. He was able to stay level-headed through adversity. Zach would prob fit better in a smaller city where there would be less pressure. Jets are in a tough spot though because they can't afford to draft another QB and wait 3 yrs. This roster is built to win now. That's why if it comes down to bringing in a vet like Jimmy G or Heinecke, maybe a trade for Tannehill. I think you make that move

This was the turning moment for ZW and the Jets. Everyone focused on the 3 INTS, and ignored the fact that they lost Breece Hall, asked Wilson to do more, and he did. Two of the picks are the easiest correction on the planet for a QB, and would have also brought his completion % to about 60: Run up field when you don't find guys open, don't scramble backwards and sideways. This is the game that Zach showed he can be a huge contributing QB. Then he followed it up with another good performance without a INT against Buffalo. Still, they reigned him in after the first quarter of the Pats next game, and I'm not sure the relationship will recover. Best thing that could happen to the Jets is they lose to the Bears this week and bring Zach back in and let him throw to Wilson, Davis, Moore and Mims downfield. Live with a INT a game. News Flash Jets: You can't run the ball like you could with Hall and AVT. You need more than a "game manager".

People are always going to be reactionary after disappointing losses (or big wins). Zach's mistakes were bad and stemmed from poor decision making. Just difficult to be patient as a fan.

He's gotta find that line of making a play vs letting it die. Defenders in the NFL are getting paid millions. They're going to win a lot of plays as well, so just take your L and move on to the next one. That said, outside of plays where he was trying to do way too much (maybe 10-ish plays), there were a TON of unbelievable great plays he made. I think this game was actually a positive for Zach. He made eye popping throws way more consistently than in any other game in his career. Now he just has to learn when to throw it away. I feel like this 3 INT game is exactly what he needed. Tons of positives, and if he just cleans up the negatives, he can be REALLY special. Got a feeling it's gonna be up from here. Truly does remind me of Josh Allen in a lot of ways.

I just don’t understand why we did not run at all and had it all on Zach. Also my only concern with Zach is he is not seeing those wide receivers open doing slants and when he does he is just off on those. I’m not ready to pull the kid I just think we need to go back to more play action passes and HB screens and this will open to wide receivers being open up field. Also why in the hell are we forcing the ball down the field before halftime when we had the lead because that causes the interception more points for patriots and Zach to seem off after that, this is not madden game play call better.

@@knickerbockers212 On the endzone replay, I don't think he had the line of sight to see the crosser . By the time he finishes his drop back you can see he's looking at his front side progression which nothings really open. Once he breaks the pocket, crosser isn't the best option as the safety/lb? is starting to crash on route (probably still should have threw it). It's debatable to say if he should have sat in the pocket with ty johnson blocking in front of you, but if he did he would had conklin coming open on back side, with the safety/lb abandoning he zone after jumping on crosser (albeit it would have taken an eternity and Judon would have easily gotten a potential strip sack). In all honesty, he should have just look to run through the hole on the left side of the line but he's still looking at his progressions so hard to blame for not seeing that hole. Worst case scenario should have been 2-3 yard scramble slide live another day, but we can see he's pressing.

Missed so many wide open guys, held the ball too long, bad placement on a lot of throws, bailed on decent pockets. He had about 5/6 really good throws, 5/6 routine throws, and his other 25 or so drop backs were a disaster. If we had even a low-end starting QB like Minshew or Marriota, we blow the Patriots out. I'm a life long Cowboys fan. I came across ZW as a youth coach here in Sandy, UT when he was as young as 10. I also was one of his many High School coaches for a very brief time. I'm rooting for him to succeed. I've never seen or cared about the Jets in my entire life, until they drafted ZW. Since then, I've followed this page and several different bloggers on KZbin, along with the Jets organization very closely. I am not excusing him because 2 of those pics are inexcusable. I think we all agree that he appeared to hit the panic button a few times and pressing, due to the pressure that he has on this shoulders. But all i have to say, is that I've never seen such a toxic fan base in my entire life. I swear the media around this organization is exhausting to follow. It is soooo bipolar. The never-ending changes of thoughts and opinion is constantly switching on a weekly basis. Constant negativity. I've heard many media members say, that the Jets cant have nice things after both Hall and ATV got hurt, and do you know what..... I agree and I have a good feeling that I know why. It's because Jets fans don't deserve to have nice things. I've never seen another fan base constantly seek and pick apart there team despite when they are winning. Chris Simms was 100% in his assessment last week. I swear It is a self fulfilling prophecy with this fan base. I thought Cowboys fans were bad, but man... this is on another level. I feel sorry for everyone in this organization that is full of great talented people. They have a fan base and media that I believe deep down wants to fail, because there whole identity is base around being a victim.

You said it all with your first line: lifelong Cowboys fan, with how many SuperBowls under your belt? I agree with part of what you are saying, but you are probably too young to remember when the Jets fan base was a whole lot different, or the perception you have was different. Losing wears on you, and it becomes frustrating. There is only so much support and positivity you can give until years becomes decades. The franchise is perpetually inept from top to bottom, always making bad hires- look at the Adam Gase fiasco, and the owner saying he was an offensive genius. You have to understand that frustration builds and when it is 50 plus years, and never making the right QB choice....how can the fans be nothing but rabid and frustrated?. Being successful should run in cycles of good and bad, for the Jets it is bad and worse. So it is unfair to say the fans are not supportive, because it's the constant pain of failure. You say you have never followed them until now, so you have no knowledge or understanding, it is simplistic what you are saying, you come off as, don't take this as an insult, but ignorant. Ignorant because you are not in their shoes. I am a Jets fan, and I do not go to games, I do not call talk shows, I patiently wait for success that never comes. Part of your problem is all you see is today's evil: social media, the age where everyone airs it out, the radio and cable shows, the Instagram, facebook and KZbin complaints and critics. In the 80's we did not have that, and all seemed more passive.

@@johnnybananas1064 I understand where your coming from and I'm not saying you don't have a reason to be frustrated. However, discrediting me for being a Cowboys fan or thinking I'm too young remember, is a terrible way to go about this. You also called me ignorant because I've never followed the Jets this closely. I've been avidly watching football for over 30+ years through the lenses of a fan and Coach(15 years). I am well educated enough to know that the Jets have been the door knob in the AFC for most of my lifetime. However your claims of frustration of 50+ years being a Jets fan, only proves my last statement right where I claim that being a victim is your identity. Would you ever believe that since the Cowboys won their last SB in 1995(27 years), your Jets have more playoff wins and Conference Championships appearances than my lousy Cowboys?? Seriously. Jets have 7 Playoff Wins and 3 AFC Championship appearances to the Cowboys 4 wins and ZERO NFC Championship appearances. And the Cowboys are the wealthiest organization in all of sports for hell sakes. With that said, Cowboy fans/media has its problems, but this is on another level of mental gymnastics. The media and fans around this team is bipolar. Also, you state my problems is all I see is todays evil's with Social Media, etc.... Well that is wrong too, Johnny. I actually watch and re-watch the game in the lenses of football coach, which I was for 15 years. I don't watch the results of the play. My eyes are on coverages, Defensive alignments, route concepts, pass pro schemes and techniques. I look at formations, leverages and angles. I love watching this video of ZW's throws every week and I spend about close to an hour on it analyzing all of the things that I just mentioned, in-order to get a clear perspective on what is happening, so I dont have to listen and get my facts from the media. I'm not some ordinary fan. But from what I know, is that this offensive system(Wide Zone Offense) with 2 TE's, is not a system that is designed to have a QB throwing 40+ times, 300+ yds., and 4 TD's a game. So get over it. It evolves around the run, the wide zone specifically. And this O-line is not allowing him, nor any qb in the league to operate effectively in the pocket. Dont get me wrong, Zach deserves some of the blame outside of the 2 lousy picks he threw yesterday which were 100% on him. But the guys around him and the system is not helping either. The O-line needs to do its part, and guys need to get separation.

I love the pieces we have but zach makes me extremely nervous and my two concerns about him have always been one the level of comp he had in college and the injuries but this game if you know x's & O's he looks great against standard defenses but as soon as number one and Two options are taken away he mentally falls apart, and now you can tell teams are beginning to purposely push him out the pocket because they know he panics and just flicks the ball in the air. He thinks he's Aaron Rodgers and he's not

I feel that he tries to do too much sometimes. Don't get me wrong, the pieces are there. He threw for 355 yards and 2 TD's but you just can't ignore 3 interceptions with a sub 50% completion. There were moments where he just tried to force scenarios that ultimately gave the Patriots extra life. He has incredible raw talent, he's just got to put the pieces together and take what the defense gives him.

The Jets and their fans are making the same mistake as they did with Sam Darnold...unrealistic expectations. Both players had a lot of potential, but were projects coming out of college and should have been portrayed as such instead of being anointed as saviors.

The average release time from snap to throw in the NFL is 2.5 to 3 seconds. Protection starts breaking down after that. He's either not throwing with anticipation of where the receiver will be or MLF patters are too long to develop.

@@live2thefullest617 Right, that's the average. Average means there are quicker throws and deeper drop backs where a play needs to develop. The deep plays is where the O line needs to step up. Remove the brutal INTs and the Jets win this game. The INTs are completely avoidable which is the most fustrating part. You can see so many good throws. He needs to mature and realize you have to "live to fight another day". That simply means let the D get the ball back and play field position.

Cedric Ogbuehi was God awful! He allowed sacks, pressure and batted balls. Zach made some bad throws. So do all NFL QBs. But the Jets are starting their 6th string OT (just off the street - a practice squad OT from the worst team in the NFL). Zach had some great throws too. The scramble to Conkin. Brilliant. The pass on the roll out to GWilson down field that hit GW on a dead run right between the 1 and the 7. The TD to Conklin. Great stuff. And WTF was the ref doing on the 2nd INT. McCourty's left knee hit the white by about a foot. Incomplete pass. Anyone with balls and eyes know that the refs handed the Pats the game. How the hell was Hunter Henry NOT called for OPI on the 4th down Pats go-ahead TD?!?! He was driving the CB (Sauce) the ENTIRE F***ING PLAY FOR A CLEAR PICK!!! If the ref does his jobs, take 7 off the board for NE and BB goes for 3 on 4th and 6. Those two blown ref calls alone gifted NE 6pts in a 5pt win. Then we're talking about a Jets 17-16 win and Zach's 2TD/2INT 355yd win in a game without their best RB, best OL and best WR.

I saw more encouraging throws and reads in this game than any game before including the buccs. It just came with idiotic plays. You can tell he’s starting to get it but when he gets flustered or feels like he has to make a play he reverts back to being a dumbass QB. He’s gotta just remember to get thru his reads and not think “I must throw the 1st read because it’s our best chance at yards” like dude just play football and trust the offense will work thru your distribution. I wouldn’t give up yet, simply because he’s clearly making strides in certain areas. It’s just frustrating when the team is borderline ready to compete. I’d suggest more tough love from the coaches beat it into his head that he isn’t mahomes and that’s fine

I counted 11 really nice down the field throws and 3 terrible interceptions. Honestly outside of the picks though, those are the throws you want to see him make. Unfortunately the picks bring his grade down astronomically. The short Accuracy is the most glaring weakness. He can go intermediate to deep but something about the simple short throw is worrisome. He still deserves more time to figure it out. He’s got the talent

Jets fans are ridiculous. You want him to literally throw the ball away every other dropback? He escapes pressure more than 20 times this game. So he throws it away whenever there is pressure.... His Oline played 6 times worse than he did. Had like 10 throwaways but should have had 16 (2 INTs from this alone). If he can avoid a major injury before the Jets get a healthy/good Oline he's going to really breakout; if he wants to avoid a bunch of unnecessary INTs however, he'll need to turn down the aggression 1-2 notches.

Some beautiful throws and some horrible throws. it seams this trend won’t go away for a while. When he plays well, it really makes you think “wow, some of those throws, I don’t know how many other qbs would be able to do that!” And then he’ll carelessly throw the ball into a defender or into 4 of them. It’s just about consistency, I think the jets know at this point what his strengths are and how to maximize them, but he needs to start eliminating the head scratching throws and be more consistent in terms of accuracy. We’ll see how long the jets will be willing to wait. Zach is going to have to start showing improvement during the second half of this season if he wants the Jets to commit to him as their Qb for another year. This game is an example of Wilson holding back the jets instead of lifting them up. It has to change soon.

A concerning amount of inaccurate throws and too much scrambling backwards. Zach has to be much more decisive when scrambling. Once Zach only looks at his first read and it's not there he starts to scramble backwards. If you're only looking at your first read at this point in your career then the moment you see it's not there, be decisive and run the ball.

Not a good game. I didn’t see it so seeing the box score looked worse than watching the plays. There were some awesome plays too. Man what makes me mad is this offensive play calling is so off this year. Why did Zach have to pass so much, in the 3rd quarter we had like 30 pass to 10 runs. Also passing with 40 seconds left before halftime when we had the lead is kinda crazy for me. Jets looked best this year controlling the ball and mixing runs and passes. We won't talk about the 10 missed bad throws, the 3 horrible interceptions, the 4 wide open recievers he checked down from. I won't mention the dying Quail he threw up for grabs in the endzone. I want to talk about the long pass to G Wilson that should have been thrown 3 yards to the right and 7 yards deep er, Wilson led a reciever towards a safety instead of to the endzone. He hops, skips, jumps and throws off of one foot for no reason.
