Agreed that so many are missing! No Sixteen Candles, Cruel Intentions, Ferris?! Welcome to the Dollhouse and Ghost World would have been cool if they were going for the edgier vibe. Over the Edge is in my top 10 favorite movies. Such a wonderful teen rebellion flick! My favorite movie is Dazed and Confused. I agree with your comment about Tape and Suburbia. Both are totally underseen!

Cooley High is extremely underrated. A great example of a film that's often overlooked because it speaks to a marginalized experience that many audiences won't immediately connect with. I once worked at a video store in Chicago that kept the film in a special section for films set in the windy city. I put it on one day out of curiosity, as nobody there had seen it- not even the black employees (I'm white). And an older black gentleman came in and was surprised but pleased to see it. He said he was in high school around the time it came out, living in a similar neighborhood to the one depicted in the film, and spoke to the film's authenticity. That was years ago. I'm glad the film now seems to be finding it's place among other "essential" teen movies, it definitely deserves it. Also though, nuts to this list for not including Ghost World.

Over the edge is a brilliant teen film, totally non conformist and rebellious. Shouldn’t animal house be here also, I loved that film as a teen.. mysterious skin too
