BiggJern To be fair, Duc's zoning was actually surprisingly easy to adapt to. You just have to guard cancel at the right spot in the blockstring. Yipes didn't know that at the time of this, and never lost to him afterwards. Meanwhile, the technique that allows you to escape Duc's zoning was removed in MVC3.

Guard cancelling isn't the end all be all to Duc's team. If you aren't in his face the whole time, you're eating a ton of damage over time. Also, Duc's team is a hard counter to MSP.

Duc was such a monster at MVC2 until JWong dethroned him. He won almost every tournament. I would go to a local arcade here called Gladys, after school, and he was always there with like 99 win streaks. I could never beat him.

Spiral is legit top tier. Still is with the right assists. It's just that most people prefer smothering with fast dashes/air dashes and psylocke aaa because it does more damage in a less amount of time and is less reactable.

It is tough to do. Why do u think there aren’t many spiral/sentinel and strider/doom players? Got to have pretty good defense to block all the m/s/p’s etc. once u get space with spiral it is easy though lol

Interesting: I've had a lot of god tier players tell me that Duc is one of the most interesting players to watch simply because he does so many subtle things that lull you to death. Definitely not the flashiest player when he doesn't need to be, just one of the all time best.

Duc's style relies more on partner assist and projectiles and lacks air combos and chain attacks which are the big necessities to the Marvel Vs Capcom series.

Those aren't really necessities: there are different ways to win, and since Duc managed to win Evo his style clearly works for him. Partner assists are absolutely critical in this game. Duc largely does destroy people due to trapping and chip damage, but does air combos and chain attacks where necessary.

Fundamentals, movement and spacing are the big necessities in marvel 2, combos are only a necessity in marvel 3 where killing a character in one combo is basically the meta. Marvel 2 requires high execution although that doesn't mean you need to learn complicated combos....
