Why Wolf is MID TIER in Brawl, and how he became AMAZING in Project M

Fun fact, the way meteor smashes work in brawl is kind of similar to melee where there is a meteor cancel. The difference however is that in melee the meteor cancel is on frame 8 for all characters while in brawl while for most characters, it's frame 25, on some characters like olimar and Ivysaur (probably due to balancing out their tether weakness) it's frame 15 and on wolf, it's frame 60... Which means that meteor smashes are buffed, but for wolf, they are almost 3 times as good.

@@ZachHonest well yes, but nowadays a lot of people think he is the same tier as icies. Some would still put him a tier above, but others wouldn't. Also, he is certainly not the only viable character in the game, icies, diddy, olimar, snake, and marth probably all could win solo, and falco/pikachu if they can avoid their bad matchups.

I’m genuinely interested and excited to see how the devs of PMEX Remix will make Conker and Krystal work. We could really use a fourth Star Fox rep and to finish out the main Rareware cast between Conker with Banjo and King K. Rool in general. Massive respects to them for changing them up so much while at the same time keeping them true to both the original games and their appearances in official Smash titles. I can’t even imagine how much work goes into just *one* character, let alone over 100 of them and counting…

Wolf was always werid in my opinion not just brawl but in ultimate In general I think he just works like fox and falco but with some werid twist and kinda bad but in pm he really feels like he’s been polished and buffed which gives him a better move set in my opinion better than the 2 animals with guns lol awesome vid.

In Ult he's really clean and very strong. They gave him a lot more range to make him more unique amoung the spacies. He's basically all about fundamentals and spacing. He's dynamic enough to handle just about anything, which makes him one of the most popular secondaries for high level players.

@@spongebobgamingahoyboo2.062 Fox is much faster on the ground. Wolf is much faster in the air. Air speed is better in Ult because drift is the only way you can space. Wolf also has stronger kill power and better range. More like a swordie. Fox is better for playing rushdown and being aggressive. Wolf is better for defensive play.

Calling Zetterburn just a wolf-like is doing a huge disservice to both characters and to Rivals of Aether imo. Zett has similarities to all the spacies bc he was supposed to fill that role in a game with a smaller roster, but just labeling him as a clone of any of them is a bit much, considering all the unique mechanics that game has. I'd encourage anyone interested to get that game and try it themselves, bc it's really the only platform fighter out there that doesn't steal Smash's mechanics 1:1 while also being fun and competitive.

Would you ever consider making a video on Brawl+? I was a diehard Brawl player during 2009 & didn't get onto Project M until 2016 but Brawl+ is a chapter I wish I'd engaged with (But I guess Project M (with Auto L-cancel on) is essentially the spiritual successor)

From what I'm aware Brawl+ was basically a really early version of PM you could say. A lot of the people who worked on Brawl+ ended up working and moving their efforts towards PM.

I love playing as wolf for fun, but holy shit was this character overtuned as fuck in 3.6 lmao. I will not accept any opinions on him that dont place him squarely and securely at number one, he was fucked. When I think about pm wolf, I get flashbacks to SNS4 grands, where lunchables was just drowning in a tide of lasers, trying desperately to get through them lol. Also the many times I got served disgusting 4-stocks by local wolves. Honestly even after the nerfs in P+ I still think he's #1. That being said he is important for the culture of the game, and if I was told I needed to show someone combos from p+ to get them into the game, hands down wolf is my (second) best choice.

Ok one honest to god question. Why isn't metaknight baned or why do people play brawl competitively at all. You have to go through so much to dance around the fact that metaknight is broken af to the point where he might as well be the only character there.

Because too many people play him and at this point, the game definitely can't afford to lose even more people. Moreover, removing him doesn't solve anything, it just means Ice Climbers or Olimar or another dumb high tier has less competition. The game is broken beyond repair, there's a reason it's practically dead.

Meta Knight is horrendous but at least he does interesting stuff. Banning him would make the other top tiers so much worse. If you want Brawl to be playable, you have to decapitate the top five-ten characters

So they did try banning MK with the Unity ruleset, but what happened is the people who played MK didn't want to go to those tournaments. So while some tournaments tried out the rule, because some regions and majors did not the rule never stuck and the Unity ruleset was eventually dropped. MK is arguably the most fun character to play in Brawl, he's genuinely fast in an otherwise slow game and probably the most expressive character in the game as well. So I think his permanent removal would definitely have been a loss. That said, his ban would not have cleared the way for Icies to dominate in the way people fear (I can't speak for Olimar, but I also doubt any other character would have been able to centralize the meta). In the old days, Brawl had lots of moving stages. These stages were brutal for Icies, with the general sentiment being if Icies ever fell behind in counterpicks that was essentially the end of the set. These stages also granted an advantage to MK, and over time were removed in part for that reason (the Unity ruleset would have used these stages). As a result, the consistency of Icies was able to climb and they became the touch-of-death grappler people know them for. If MK was banned and these old stages returned, we could reasonably expect Icies to not be as prevalent. They'd still be very dangerous game 1, but their ability to win sets would be heavily diminished. I'd expect Olimar to probably be #1 (someone has to be) but there's no evidence to suggest he's good enough to centralize the meta like MK did. If anything there's a strong chance character diversity from lower tiers would go up due to the lack of MK (though in fairness many of those characters would still struggle against the other top tiers, I'm just saying the massive MK player base wouldn't exist and thus characters with decent attributes but a horrific MK MU might become semi-viable).
