I tried my best to piece together the story based on the information available online, but I apologize for any inaccuracies that made their way into the video. I know there is a lot of misinformation out there that gets perpetuated, and I'm sure there are many details that only those who knew Fred personally would be aware of. I'm truly sorry for any pain that videos like mine dredge up. While I aimed to be respectful, I'm sure it's still difficult for Fred's loved ones to have his disappearance constantly re-examined by strangers online. Everything was top notch, from the presentation of relevant documents and related slides, the supporting research, the detailed though concise narration. I came here from a Reddit post today and am glad I did. I was sitting at home watching TV that night when the program was interrupted with this news on that evening. They played the recording, it was very clear and disturbing. Made the hair on the back of my neck stand up. I operated a fishing boat around Bass Straight along the Tasmanian coast years later and I saw a large silver disc fly past me in broad daylight. It flew into a long cloud, I felt like it was hiding from me, it wasn't an aircraft it was a silver shiny disc.

It doesn't upset me I am glad people are keeping Freds memory alive. i have an image of Valentin having some kind of 2001 (Space Odyssey) style encounter - the words with ATC are phenominal, such as: "its seemingly playing with me", "its just vanished", "its just hovering above me", "the speed [of the UFO] is exceptional" & then finally of course those words: "its NOT an aircraft" For me i think he seems a level headed & cautious chap, now what is it 40+ years since this happened i love his parents belief that he is still alive somewhere (with the aliens)" as clearly this a UFO encounter. Also, just as he believed in UFO's in his personal life makes absolutely zero difference in my view as to whether this incident is what it appears to be, he was flying straight, well good pilot, good aircraft to suddenly just vanish i think he been welcomed into 1 of our galactic brother species & i for 1 am jeolous, i think :-D

I'm a pilot and have a lot of experience in a similar plane and vintage. He died at 20 years old with 150 hours total time, VFR. That is definitely a low experience pilot. Minimum requirement for private pilot license is 40 hours but it takes most about 60 hours. He was not instrument rated and probably had only a handful of night flights. Night flights are challenging over cities and extremely difficult over open waters. There is virtually no way to know lights above are 1,000 feet above. Even experienced, commercial pilots are unable to reliably judge distance because there are no visual references. I also set my planetarium software to that time, date, and location and did not see any celestial explanation for the four bright lights. Though I can't explain what those four lights might have been. He was attempting to do a night flight over open water several hours after sunset. Distance was about 160 miles almost entirely over open waters. In a Cessna 182, that would be about an hour and 45 minutes one way. Certainly, doable but risky because of lack of visual reference and the pilot being young, inexperienced, and not instrument rated.

No, you have it wrong, an instrument rating means the pilot is qualified to fly his aircraft without external visual references and fly/navigate his airplane solely with reference to his Instruments. It is a step up from flying with basic visual references/good weather and is generally agreed to be a challenging rating to obtain

There's also the Kaikoura Lights events over in New Zealand in December 1978, several weeks after this. Thisvwas caught on film and well documented in the print and TV media at the time. Coincidence?

His plane is in the ocean somewhere between the mainland and King Island. He was obsessed with UFO’s and I think he wanted it to happen so he made it happen. The strange noises are likely someone keying the mic and rubbing something over the mouthpiece to make the noise.

When he said it was orbiting him, reminds me of the video(s) of the the(maybe) flight mh370 getting orbited by 3 tic-tac ufos before teleporting. Maybe because it was a smaller plane, only one was needed? Also, I'm sure that this is our technology because of the other video. Why else would we be recording the plane that was teleported if we didn't know what was going to happen?

If the plane had turned over and Frederick was seeing the planes reflection in the ocean surely he would of noticed this because of his seat and seat belt. Maybe his plane did go into the ocean just before he was abducted from his plane, hey it's a possibility.

The kid was depressed, having issues with his girlfriend, just became interested in ufo's like three weeks before... He lied about going to his destination & what it was for (friends/kray fish), was fuelled heavy & witnesses saw a mysterious plane land near a large city... Its clear that he wasn't taken by aliens & just went to live another life somewhere... I suspect if they did an age progression photo in Australia, he would be recognised immediately... But 'true ufo believers' won't buy it cause its a lame-o story... when in actuality, its alot more believable & realistic... 👽🛸

Go read the 315pg govt report, it states everyone he met before the flight he was in a good mood, it was just a quick trip to King Is..he'd be back by 7/7:30. Even told his girlfriend this & she'd have more clue than you as to his mental health. Valentich never said it was a UFO, he thought the lights were RAAF F1-11s or Mirages, he asked Robey at ATC a number of times if there was air force activity in the area. Bloody internet sleuths! Edit: theyre Crayfish in Australia.. the Krays were East End London gangsters.

A hell of a lot of supposition here, plus plain make it up as you go.. Valentich's parents were Croatian not Italian. Instrument rating is exactly that, flying by instruments & needs to be passed & assessed to obtain (he had 150 odd hrs solo flying... with 2 blemishes.. flying into cloud over residential area & another). As for his beliefs in UFOs (& fear of being taken!). Every family had Chariots of the Gods & if he had all these clippings, why didn't his parents find them? The interviews with his mother & father state as a kid he liked Star Trek etc but outgrew it.. Any other thoughts he may have harboured were probably from the other pilots at Moorabbin... who all stated he was a level headed lad who flew well (they trained him). You put the 315pg govt findings that Basterfeild came across, why didn't you add at least some of the relevant wtness statements esp from Cp Otway? The cpl camping, the dad & his kid seeing green lights on their way home from the fish & chip shop? There were 100s of sightings from Victoria to SA.. Plus the partial reg nos (yet near all Cessna's in Australia have similar nos). As for the SA farmer seeing a Cessna stuck to a UFO... reports vary, first he was working in NSW when he saw this, then the press stated it was in SA (1000s of kms away)... Valentich never said he saw a UFO...he said he saw green lights, he convinced Robey at Melb ATC something was amiss. Time constraints on your behalf?

RAAF said they had nothing flying that night, but he asked Reibey at Air Traffic Control, Melbourne a number of times if the Air Force had anything in the area. I think he was asking because of the speed whatever he witnessed was moving... he thought it was playing around, as it came and went more than once. I've got a book somewhere with (supposedly) the original transcripts, this being the third taped version lve heard. Those at ATC let the father listen to it a month or so later (to hear his sons voice one last time). I've no idea which version of Valentich and Reibey is the real one, but what they aired on TV was eerie, but may have been voice actors for all l know? If l can find the book, I'll rewrite it here.. It shows at first FV was only on the radio when it was visible, then the last few minutes it was constant... Reibey at ATC was convinced Valentich was reporting what he was seeing honestly.

Do really people imply that watching scifi shows or movies somehow you get to see stuff from those shows in real life? Or that he was lying? So, what's StarTrek got to do with it? If he was interested in UFOs, do any of his friends know if he had seen any before? You say he never said he saw a UFO (in the audio?), but "that's not an aircraft" certainly sounds a whole lot more than lights. Not quite some kind of lights phenomenon or anything alike, cause he uses the word aircraft to refer to it, but then he also repeats twice this is not an aircraft. Sounds like he was seeing something of substance, that he was having trouble describing. You say the lights he reported were green? Landing lights are obviously white. In the audio he says landing lights. If he reported green lights like landing lights, maybe he was trying to describe intensity? And yeah, green landing lights would make it super weird. Is this partial audio or the audio with the green lights is a different version? The hundreds of sightings in the area is a dead giveaway something was there. Thanks for the extra info.

I don't think being a pilot requires an exceptionally high IQ, but I don't think a low IQ person could become a pilot and accumulate even 150 hours of flying time either. There have be some mental challenges to it that a slow person could not meet.

According to the reading Ive done that theory is very unlikely because the model of aircraft he was flying was relying on gravity to feed fuel into the engine. He wouldve crashed much sooner.
