Mufasa - An Underwhelming Return to the Lion King Legacy | Movie Review

Unpopular opinion: I actually enjoyed this movie. From a critical standpoint I get it, but at the same time, I still just enjoyed the nostalgia, the backstory and especially making some connections here and there to the og 2 Lion King movies, Lion Guard, the 2019 movie and the old ass picture books (technically non cannon) lore for Mufasa and Taka. I do like this movie better than the 2019 one, mainly cause its more expressive and the camera work and cinematography is better. I liked how this was kinda an in between movie of the og 1 and 2 and a prequel at the same time. Idk thats just me n my opinion

I also don't hate cgi Lion king. But I couldn't stand Timon & Pumbaa and ALL the songs in Mufasa 2024. Overall the movie was meh. (Rafiki is the best character though).

@SatanenPerkele yea I had the same thoughts about timon and pumbaa, seemed forced and a bit cringe. The songs were okayyy, nothing on the og though. I think the one I thought was the boppiest would be the villain song lol. Villain songs most the time slap.

Sonic 3 is the movie I'm dying for. I knew from the start that not making Mufasa and Scar biological brothers was a huge red flag.

Even in the 1990s. Disney intended to make Scar and Mufasa biologically unrelated lions and the decision to turn them into biological brothers was made later (after designing them!) so this is the reason why they look like so fundamentally different physically in the animation.

C+ is too kind... "stay classy" doesn't mean "go easy."... It's important to remember how expensive it is to go to the movies, and people need the truth, which is: Mufasa is NOT worth the time or money, with the possible exception of hardcore fans of the 2019 Lion King.

This film made me feel very invested in the characters. I had very few issues. Mainly the cut backs to Timon and Pumba irritated me as I felt they hurt the pacing for no reason.

I'm a super huge Lion King 1994 animated that is the best one to me I remember sitting down to watch Mufasa The Lion king I had the bad feeling low expections as 2019 Lion King that I didn't like at all so lifeless not fun and be prepared so bad in that one. I found myself suprise to find the new one a fine movie I liked went better for me with facial expressions original story with Mufasa it's not the best ever but I'm glad it hasn't been as bad as the 2019 Lion King was for me.

I'll watch the profitless version when it comes around, until then I'm happy to be spoiled - when it comes to Disney remakes I really couldn't care less about spoilers and I'm certainly not supporting anything without checking out if it was decent first. That's what they get when they stop caring about the quality of their work. I like that the character animation allows for more expression this time around. Still don't like the realistic style the remake went, but that can't really be helped at this point. I've heard two songs, the villain one and the brothers one, they're ok, kind of catchy. Absolutely not impressed by the butchering of Mufasa's backstory, making him in a way the antagonist of what is to be his own origin story and allowing Scar to be interpreted as a poor misunderstood victim who was robbed of his throne by being naive and accepting an intruder into his family. I have no idea what they were thinking... the entire point of these classic character is that Mufasa was a larger than life noble character with no flaws and Scar being a jealous a**hole who was not nearly as smart as he thought he was (but couldn't help but be so charismatic that pretty much everyone watching the original animation loved him, myself included). I hate that the writers of this movie gave Scar so many excuses for his actions later along the line...

Same rating as the 2019 remake, it just shows that even though these remakes are unnecessary just like all Disney remakes good or bad, What complained about the remake, the prequel still doesn't live up to our expectation. We need to understand that these we're never to live up to the OG 94 film, and they never will. They were made to tribute legacy of what that film did in a Photorealistic medium. Many of us have unrealistic high expectations when it comes to this, and we set ourselves up for our own disappointment.

I think they did this film solely because Wonka was a success. The reasons that was success was because of actual talent and drive. Disney craps out pointless cash grab remakes now and the only ones that I actually really enjoyed are beauty and the beast, Aladdin, Little mermaid, jungle book, petes dragon maleficent and Cinderella. The rest of them have been pretty terrible and even I recognize that the live action remakes even the good ones have many issues, but I still enjoy them for what they are. They're pleasant, albeit very flood updates to the original animated films told in a different way. The Lion King was the one I enjoyed the least and one I've watched the least. Wonka worked for many reasons that had nothing to do with it being a prequel. It's solely stood on its own as a film in my opinion.

Another live action remake that NOBODY asked for! Oh joy! From what I hear on one of the other channels Disney blackmailed theaters to put it into more theater rooms too by threatening them with future Marvel properties. Competing with another character that all age people are genuinely excited about must be terrifying. Especially because these people ENTERTAIN instead of sneak messages into movies. Desperation does funny things to Disney. Nobody I know is going to see Mufasa. They are speaking in the only way Disney listens BY STAYING HOME AND KEEPING THEIR WALLET CLOSED.

@@AntsTheaterCorner2698 I don't know though well probably it will be and I already seen it and the music and story definitely lifts the movie up than the first one I think. But I think the downfall in this is it's photorealistic animation style which is kinda not fitting to the entire story to be honest. The movie is much more fitting in the water-colored CGI style, Pixar-style or hand-drawn animation style than the photorealistic one.
