Great video very informative I am always very nervous to take a knife apart and then not be able to put it together right I am definitely picking up a pivot alignment tool thanks for the lesson Zach aka Benchmade Master

I’m going to have to get the steel pivot tool. The aluminum version I have seems a bit soft and tends to be hard to remove. I used to be hesitant to mess with taking apart Benchmade until I started watching your channel. Thanks for all the helpful videos over the years Zach!

Great video. Should we even think about taking a 940 apart unless there’s a problem? Regards Marc

Nice one Zach! Axis locks are byfar the most annoying reassembly so I'm sure this will help a lot of people out!

I tried putting my 940 back together after a heroic size edible. I recognized my foolishness and had to do it during daylight. That pivot tool would have saved my self confidence.

These tools are definitely a huge help! I could only imagine the ride you took during your build that night. Thanks Karl!

Ordered the jade scales from Flytanium because they looked better in photos and the are much prettier. Nice jade color and not as translucent although omega springs are still somewhat visible

What is the consensus on the warranty voiding issue with taking these apart? Other than the omega spring breaking, I really don't see why I would ever need warranty work on my BHQ M4 940. But I am hesitant to take it apart for cleaning and oiling because of voiding the warranty. It seems pretty straightforward, and similar to other axis lock knives that I've taken apart. I do my own sharpening on all of my knives, and I take apart and maintain all of my other pocket knives. But the 940 is my first Benchmade, and a lot of people have told me that "you're gonna need that warranty on your Benchmade". Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks for reaching out! The Lifesharp warranty currently does not include warranty for taking the knife apart. However the 940 is a great addition to your collection and I wouldn’t worry about any upgrades. I always keep the original scales in case I need to send it in for repairs. They have explained the warranty policy related to this and basically have said that it knives are sent in with aftermarket parts they would not be able to replace those parts if they are damaged in the repair process. So if you keep the stock parts, just in case, it would alleviate those concerns for any warranty needs. Bonus points for the 940 as it’s my favorite Benchmade!

@@zachstuff Thank you for responding! I'll go ahead and plan on taking it apart and maintaining it like all of my other knives. I already made my own pivot alignment tool for when the time comes. It works great.

The original's from REC were a limited drop.riversedgecutlery.com/search-results-page?q=journey%20tool%20co I have not seen them do another run yet. May want to email them in case they have some in their store. Journey Tool Co should be releasing more soon too.
