Here's a thought. Is Sephiroth gathering warriors to complete Jenova in order to kill her, so that he might be free of her as well? If he kills Jenova, will he surf the cosmos seeking the destruction of other Calamities afterward or will he just replace her? Does he truly see himself as a Cetra or is he just as wicked as she is? He was only crazy for a night.

I’ve always thought zack is a boring character. He was always supposed to be just a plot device and catalyst for clouds character arc and not a main character. SE’s obsession with fan service is baffling, especially considering the worst bits of remake we’re the new characters and major story changes. Not because they were new, but because they don’t fit thematically with FF7 and are in general poorly written.

(haven’t seen any NPC’s with Materia on their weapons) And if we do follow Zack on his own adventure he’s going to need a crew. Other possible crew members could also be Jessie, Biggs, and Cisnei (Maybe Glenn too). But that just a big brain theory of mine.

i remember kind of storyboarding my own fanfic around Zack, it wasnt that Zack survived and cloud died, it was basically just me writing out how i thought his story would go by being alive, and honestly i came to some (at least what i would think) interesting ideas of how that affected the story firstly the big thing is that instead of Cloud stumbling his way and passing out on the ground near the sector 7 train station, Zack dragged cloud towards the sector 5 hoping to find Aerith because of this diversion Tifa never finds cloud and as a result he never joined up with Avalanche for the bombing misson the bombing misson goes VERY wrong for Avalanche ultimately causing the deaths of Barrett Jessie and Biggs (wedge survived because like in the OG game he was postioned outside the reactor to watch for reinforcements) Barrett was killed after he set the bomb he was attacked by the Guard Scorpian and overpowered since he was alone Jesse leg got caught and Biggs recognizing the others were taking too long ran into the reactor where he reached Jesse and was helping her escape when the reactor blew killing them both now by this time cloud is up and about and with Zack they both become well mercenaries, working with locals to push back monsters that come into the sector with Zack by his side Clouds memory is not nearly as screwed up because well Zack is there to help set the record straight Cloud and Zack have their own little shack they share but Zack mostly spent his free time with Aerith eventually one of their jobs does lead to them going to sector 7 where they do run into Tifa Tifa pretty much has had all the wind taken out of her sails by this point. While she does still hate Shinra to the very core of her being at this point she basically just completely detached herself from Avalance and any notion of fighting Shinra, her only priority now is Marlene and running the bar. While of course distrusting of Zack a small bit as part of SOLDEIR, 7th heaven becomes one of Zack and Clouds main haunts after any job in Sector 7 and while tifa never fully opens up to Zack she does trust Clouds trust in Zack............get a little bit of slice of life drama for a while, even have Zack pushing Cloud into asking Tifa out on a date (partly because he wants to help cloud, partly because he wants more free time to just have it be him and Aerith) of course the plot begins moving forward where the Turks well.......by obeserving Aerith they knew Zack was alive..........and constantly around Aerith they kidnap Aerith while Zack is out on a job and Aeriths mother tells him what happened Zack finds Cloud with Tifa and tells him what happened Tifa overhearing this decides to help Zack sneak into the upper city.........under the condition that Cloud does not join him in the raid, she is done having the people she cares for die fighting Shinra Cloud of course refuses but tifa puts her foot down on this listing every person she knows that has died at the hands of shinra or fighting them, she outright tells him that "if the cost of keeping you alive has our relationship end i will pay it happily knowing i at least saved someone" Zack talks cloud into staying and Tifa in turns reaches out to Wedge who still has ties to the greater Avalance movement who help him get into the upper city, thing is the Turks knowing its Zack informed Shinra that he WILL come, so Shinra security as well as SOLDEIR is mobilized to secure the area, they arent told who to expect. just that an attack on Shinra HQ by a former SOLDER 1st class is imminent (considering the Gensis fiasco this is a threat they take more seriosuly then Avalance) seeing this Zack tries a hail mary he picks up his phone, and calls Kunsel Realzing the target they were about to fight was his friend (and being shocked half to death to learn Zack is alive) Kunsel begins assisting Zack rescue Aerith ..........................thats it thats as far as the ideas i had for this story went.........never actually put any of this to paper, this is actually the first time i even wrote it out on my computer, it was all just a whirlpool of ideas floating around in my head

i always imagined that Kunsel would be a 1st class SOLDER by the time of FF7, but even by his own admisson his promotion was more to fill in gaps then being a comparison to the likes of Zack, Angeal, Genesis and Sephiroth

The corrupted lifestream is what I've been theorizing personally since remake. Most seem to be stuck on the 2 timelines theory though. Thinking the '2 timelines' could be the living world melding with the spirit world/lifestream, Sephiroth (or really Jenoviroth) being the one who tears down the veil separating them. Jenoviroth siphoning off the souls of people who were supposed to die and get absorbed into the lifestream and assimilating their spirit energy within itself to 'rebirth' into the world of the living by destroying what separates those worlds. The whispers crying out at the end of remake are these 'trapped' souls. This is also why the planet is crying out for help because the spirit energy is being withheld from the lifestream, slowly starving it to death. Zack has the same strength of will as Sephiroth to keep himself from being absorbed into the lifestream, but instead of just chilling in the spirit world, he still believes himself alive because the worlds have merged. He eventually figures this out, along with our main characters, and they realize that by correcting the corruption of Jenoviroth means a re-separation of the worlds. Everyone who is supposed to have died and moved into the spirit world and possibly absorbed into the lifestream will dissappear from the living world. Zack and Aerith, who could also seem to 'cheat death' and appear to still be alive after her 'moment', will move back into the corrected spirit world/lifestream in the end. Big sappy teary-eyed goodbye... The world will be saved, but will you?

So that's the mystery message then, huh? "Where is it that Zack fails at that Cloud is able to succeed at? What does Cloud have that little bit more than Zack that allows him to ultimately be The Hero of Loveless and not Zack (The Traveler) nor Sephiroth (The Prisoner). Also as a side note I believe Genesis at this point understands his role in the grand story to no longer be any of those three archetypes but something more purposeful to the structure of the story. I believe his alignment with the Planet will be explained by him as being the words in the story that guide the reader to the truth at the end of that story. I believe this realization of his did occur by the end of Crisis Core. So yeah I'm pretty excited to see what they have cooked up for this meta aware character now.

Sephiroth playing some big geo-political chess and I FIRMLY believe Zack is going to be playing a role. Wutai & Avalanche have been in cahoots and I'm so curious how this effects Yuffie/Godo

The opening line actually translate to 'will you exist in the world you save?' I think it's the planets doing because the fates specifically showed only aerith zacks last stand. And then the ultimate mentioned when she opened the rift she used the word freedom - very specifically the word used by zack in the vision (again as stated by the ultimania). Also a bit of symbolism but in the cover zacks skies look clearer and brighter than clouds side (which is covered in dark clouds and a dark night sky) - so I do not think zacks timeline is the chaotic one. I actually think u may have it reversed personally (we all know how much square loves their symbolism lol). Also I don't think sephiroth would willingly merge the two worlds and let a jenova cell juiced zack and jenova cell juiced cloud to reunite and team up against him.

@FinalFantasyPeasant yup japanese. And square also tends to use alpt of symbolism in their art and colors. The colors on their company logo has a meaning behind it lol. They always use colors and themes to connect a point. Also after the ff7 rebirth demo the art of the image with sephi, zack and cloud replaces cloud with Tifa and zack with aerith and says thanks for playing. I think there is alot of significance in that itself outside of just the promises they've made to eachother under/regarding skies. Plus I think it's important to note that the rift only appears in zacks timeline, personally I think that has something to do with the lifestream being disrupted. I personally believe the lifestream transcends time and space. To me that's the only thing that makes sephiroths knowledge and aeriths make any sense. Also little side note. The stamp (beagle) logo is shown at the Shinra March. So yeah safe to say nobody stepped into another realm or timeline after they entered the portal at the end of remake against the fates.

Fan since 2020, love your theories. Eating this right up! Actually taking notes and have used a lot of your greater concepts to help me formulate my own narrative ideas for... Fanfiction. Absolutely giggling thinking about you getting caught writing fanfics at work. Have you posted your fic anywhere?? I'd do potentially dumb things to get to read it. Have been writing fanfics since 2001 and started a huge Zack Returns project right after beating Remake. It's AMAZING what Zack changes if the man survives and walks into Any Version of Midgar. Cloud is Necessary to the story, and truly the key element if only because Sephiroth BELIEVES him to be, but I now firmly believe that there will never be a HAPPY ENDING for ANYONE without Zack's interference. Zack with the Avalanche Crew = Priceless. Thirsty Jessie and Zack are hilarious to think about (and write). Biggs and Zack, amazing Order/Chaos duo and by far the best option for Zack's "Handler". Zack's Eternal Optimism no matter what gets thrown at him is INSANELY powerful and ExZackly what Cloud needs to bolster his own weaknesses. People think they can't exist in the same space because they'd step on each other's toes? Who's the Main Character? Both of them. ALL of them. Even the Warrior of Light can be supported by the Dawn Warriors. And you want another Symbolic Five? Zack, Aerith, Tifa and Barret are each necessary as four pillars (with elemental links) supporting a Perfected Cloud, a Quintessence. If Sephiroth removes any of those pillars through Fate or his own direct interference, Humanity Loses. Doesn't guarantee him the win, but certainly gets him closer to the possibility. Anyway, if you've got your Zack fic somewhere on the internet, I need it in my life. Don't make me beg :D

46:40 … Sephi’s plan is to completely sever the ties Cloud has with the family we see at the end of Advent Children, especially those with Zack & Aerith. Outside of the latter 3, there’s Tifa - who he’s targeting thru manipulation of Cloud in a previous Rebirth trailer. Sephi still wants destruction, just as he did when he first went mad in Nibelhiem. The evidence I have is all the times Sephi spent convincing Cloud in Remake to reject/fear/run from death VS all the messaging in the OG & Advent Children being about accepting Death as a part of Life & the cycle of the Lifestream. Sephi is inflicting suffering on Cloud to further isolate him in order to have a more perfect Puppet. We’ll see what happens despite, as Aerith’s still with Cloud in that world, & Zack (even if he seems lost in the trailers so far) loves Cloud too much to let Sephi take his Chocoboy without a fight if he can help it. Plus, Angeal is still guiding Zack from the Lifestream - we’ve seen his white feathers in past trailers, AND Genesis - the Lifestream’s other winged guardian who’s basically on parole with community service.😂 Dark thought: In production of the OG, Nojima - a fan of the Godfather trilogy - wanted players to choose 3 characters for the return to Midgar, & ~only~ those 3 characters would survive the rest of OG…! We have Nomura to thank for that not happening. Whether we get a double shishkabob ala Sephiroth in Rebirth or the following installment is not entirely off the tragedy block. We are likely being set up for worse than what happened in the OG.👀💦 Random thoughts: Zack might finally have a chance to see his parents in Gongaga during the turmoil of Wutai vs Shinra… He might also cross swords with Roche during the rescue of Aerith from the Shinra building, & the said turmoil. Who knows, we might even see Ms. Raspberry singing at Golden Saucer, & Biggs might be in the party!

But the real question is... how did a Sephiroth from one timeline knew that the Sephiroth from OG has died/failed at the end of the game? Because if there's 2 Sephiroth, one that tries to prevent the event of OG in Remake, then one must have been aware of his fate beforehand by an Entity or some kind of way? Maybe the lifestream told him somehow... I think it's one important piece of the puzzle that should be revealed in the second if not the last game, else it doesn't make sense why Sephiroth's has those current knowledges and motivations for carrying his plans...

Indeed, I think he would've done exactly that. However he would've encountered the Turks even if he was successful in meeting up with her at some point in time. Which would have caused them to hunt him again, forcing Aerith back into danger. Assuming that all happens Zack would either A) take her away from Midgar B) Aerith would be captured and he'd be forced to go to the HQ and rescue her C) he would get captured or killed unless he left her altogether

29:05 … Ok, if Zack arrives 1 month before the bombing run, then Yuffie & Sonon might meet Zack while he’s saving his “Princess in a different castle (the Shinra building).” If it’s after the bombing run, & before the plate falling, then there’s still a chance of the 3 of them meeting & getting into said “castle “ together. Who knows, if they encounter Deep Ground, then maybe Genesis might wake from his (watery? It might be different since it’s so soon after Genesis’ & Zack’s last meetup) slumber sensing Zack (& perhaps the chaos Seph has unleashed)…?!?

Literally paused this at the 15:37 to get a better look at just how sickly this sector 5 looks (dried yellow grass - just much less lush) & where it pause has yellow flower petals blowing past Zack and Cloud from the direction of Aerith's house!!! I'm honestly insanely excited for Zack's arc in Rebirth. The reunion I'm most anticipating is between Zack & Tseng. There is simply no way this isn't a thing. He's literally 1 of the 2 friends left who aren't either dead or comatose, and lets be real here Kunsel was obviously name dropped in Remake to be a member of Zack's party. What happens between Zack and Tseng though in this chaos nightmare world is going to be intense. I'm also slightly curious what happens to Reeve in this chaos world, because he was already overwhelmed by the plate drop, so will the fallout from the tornado disaster be a final straw for him here? Also regarding the weird dude creeping on Rufus in Junon, I'm leaning towards him either being a member of Avalanche HQ or a Wutai agent. Those 2 background elements of OG have been massively expanded in both Remake & Intermission, so I'm thinking as a antagonists towards Rufus is where they'd make most sense to include in Rebirth. After all, it was through his time as a captive in On the Way to a Smile that Rufus really grew as a character into the beginnings of a better man, so if this trilogy is going to complete everyone's story similar to the compilation then Rufus needs to be challenged to grow beyond what his father made him. He's always been insinuated in all post meteor content to be a major yet silent architect of the rebuilding of the world, so there needs to be an arc set in place for him to get to that place in the trilogy. So yeah that's what I think is being set up with that hooded guy.

4 Things that can play into this. 1. Sephiroth uses the memories from within the Livestream to crate the illusions of himself. 2. Sephiroth gave up his human side when he first entered the Livestream. 3. I think Zack ist some kind of connection to the human side of Sephiroth because he has the most memories of him showing his human side. (DMW 😉) 4. Look, my interpretation is this. That tornado, with a flash of purple. Isnt that just the whirqind maze? Isnt that at the reunion? Then after the reunion, the cloud gives sephiroth the black materia and the weapons are realeased? I feel like were looking too hard into some things. I think there are at least 3 timelines and it's hinted at in Rebirth's box cover with the 3 men and through various events shown so far. There's the Cloud Timeline which is the 'main' one (from the player's POV) that continues after Remake's battling Sephiroth and defeating the Fates. There's the Zack Timeline, where Zack survives the Shinra onslaught and returns to Midgar with Cloud. Then there's the Sephiroth Timeline where the Fates/Sephiroth destroy the party; we saw them defeated in at least the first released FFVII rebirth trailer with the party on stretchers. There are various conditions shown so far with each timeline, like Avalanche member Biggs surviving and taking up the fight in the wake of the main party wiped out, Zack returning to the church for Aeirth, and Cloud in a robe joining the Jenova reunion. But since all 3 timelines are deviants from the original FFVII, from the Destiny, and since all 3 lead to destruction, the end goal will eventually be Timeline Convergence to return to the optimal timeline. This will be the goal of the 3rd remake game FFVII Reunion/Remerge/Reconvergence or whatever else it's called, lol.

You have to remember that everybody infused with jenova cells can be influenced by her but even without that she is able to create hallucinations and delusions thus she can control clones and make them appear as your loved ones or your enemies.

the leak is correct so far : you can see Jessie still alive in the trailer, and part of some Gold Saucer play/tv show ... so if the rest of the leak is true then, End of game has Zack saving Aerith from getting stabbed but it turns out Aerith is being used by Minerva as a vessel and transforms into her. Genesis also appears and has planned this entire alter(n)ate timeline to happen. He merges with her becoming The Warrior of Light. Cloud tries to intervene but gets mortally wounded by him. Of course Wutai can declare war they have Elfe and Avalanche hq. Which Rufus also has a hand in. So Rufus would be controlling both sides of the war. Unless Elfe gives Rufus the boot, the deal was done Shinra sr is dead, so what does that leave the relationship between Rufus and Avalanche? Godo is imprisoned, so that could simply be why their government is in a state of change or pause. If Zack goes to Avalanche he would have to be desperate after what they did to his friends. And don't forget since the BC and DOC (possibly CC content) endings haven't happened, Jade weapon, Omega, Zirconiade are still out there. If the Weapons are awake then a massive loss of life must have occurred already.

So I could be wrong, but reading the synopsis. It talks about Zacks world having a rift, followed by 'that's not the only threat facing the world'. So it seemed a run on from THAT threat. Followed by saying weapons are awake. When we see in the trailer with Tifa that she only is seeing it in the lifestream, makes it seem they are still in lifestream, so asleep? Then it talks about Sephiroth making the chaos and ensuring new myriad fates entwine etc, that its his plan in action. If that was talking about Aerith's line, then that implies he planned Aerith to open destiny's portal and the crews fates aren't one of their own making? Its his entire plan/control and its him guarding them to meet new people? That didn't make so much sense in my head and therefore it registered in my brain as talking about Zacks?

Zach's death is a part of what gives cloud the strength to defeat Sephiroth. That has now been taken away from cloud. Also now there is a second cloud that Sephiroth can possess.

Zack will probably die in Part 3. Aerith too. It's pretty core to the ethos of FF7 that the natural course of life is to return to the lifestream (while Sephiroth is an unnatural abomination who corrupts that flow of souls and refuses to rejoin the lifestream.) Sephiroth may have messed with the journey that the souls take in this world, but both Zack and Aerith will inevitably rejoin the lifestream in order to give the planet the power to stop the Black Materia. I think Cloud will watch Aerith die in his world. But then rather than return to the lifestream, her soul will reawaken in Zack's timeline. And that's what Rebirth alludes to. So Sephiroth's plan is to keep the planet ripe for conquering. Aerith will maybe be unconscious throughout Rebirth (along with the rest of the gang) until she is reawoken (by dying in Cloud's timeline.)

I’m usually all for a deep dive/fanfiction take on these things but I can’t help but feel at the outset that the Kabbalistic/Gnostic elements of the FF7 storyline are relatively superficial. At heart the OG was a very pantheistic, I’d say Eastern-inspired worldview, and they were uncomfortable even mentioning souls in relation to the Lifestream. Admittedly the dev language sounds different now, but I’d guess that’s less some new interest in Western esoteric spirituality than simply to preserve the characters as we revisit this world. Yes, they love Western (particularly Classical) mythos, aesthetics and lore but it always seems like a gloss overlaid on the usual JRPG story, so, I wouldn’t hold my breath on Sephiroth literally being a rebellious archangel creating a new afterlife or some such, or that Kabbalistic philosophy will somehow help predict the plot.

@@Joelio8701 Honestly I think they're just saying its anywhere from 'Longer than FFVIIRemake' to 'twice as long if you do everything'. The main campaign may not take Remake's 30-40 hours, but instead around or over 50, and the side content won't take it to Remake's upper 10s, but instead around or over 100 hours. I'm thinking that if they do two parties (of same or different gametimes), Cloud's party will have fewer major (as in the polished ones) cutscenes than the whole of Remake, and they'll be more scattered through the world as you advance, but between all the side content of his or both parties, and if Zack has his own focus (with side content or not; he might get a more focused path), then it all still adds up to a bigger to much bigger game. If they do the two-parties deal to its fullest extent - and I don't expect they will but I'm speculating - they had to have decided earlier if they were going to expand this game to be such a big, BIG boy, when instead its possible they'd decide to pare it down to just doing a slimmer Cloud's Journey. Remake did well enough and SquareEnix wants a hit so it seems they got their time for whatever they needed, as opposed to a 2021 'yearly DLC' type approach they seem they may have considered and Intermission may be the polished scraps of, or 2022-23 smaller sequel FFXIII/LR style.

I’ll leave the deep dive to someone more capable than me. Here’s our clues. Zack lives. Zack and Cloud have a Journey to find Sephiroth and defeat Jenova. They find out they can’t. As long as Jenova Cells exist Sephiroth can re-incarnate. (Kadaj in Advent Children) Maybe even pre-evil Sephiroth seduces them to help. With the help of some time travel. The events of OGFFVII start over. Besides the times when a hooded number turns into Sephiroth, it is Zack that become Sephiroth (beginning of chp2 and end of chp18). He has the cells. And he is leading the OG team to destroy Jenova. Don’t get me wrong, it’s still Sephiroth, but Zack is trying to be the final boss so Cloud and team will win, and maybe Aeris lives. If you read this far…. Think FFX. Jecht and Aaron learned they couldn’t defeat Sin, so Jecht let his life energy become Sin. He was able to lead Tidus to the final Showdown, to defeat Sin for real. Someone with much better research and writing skills should look into this. I’ll check in periodically to defend the theory the best I can.
