I think it's funny when people say the motive is lame. But how is Billy's motive any better? He goes on a killing spree because his mom left? Like what the fuck? Lol Or Mrs. Loomis. I get wanting to kill Sidney for killing Billy, but you wouldn't need to kill a bunch of other innocent people. Or Mickey. He just wanted to have a trial and blame the movies. My point is that there's no *good* reason to go on a killing spree and murder innocent people. So the motives in this film are just as "reasonable" as any of the others.

I was really happy with how this movie put that front and center - calling the killers "idiots" several times, the "anonymity" comment you mentioned and their motive of wanting the killer(s) to be the star(s) of the franchise. Technically speaking, Roman didn’t start everything. Roman himself admitted that Stu & Billy took things well beyond what he’d intended. Billy could've just let go of his anger after he murdered Maureen. Maybe he would've even married Sidney, and taken Maureen's death to his grave. Being an obsessive Scream fan and Having not seen a Scream Movie in theatres in over 22 years, I had apprehensive thoughts about this one… but radio silence nailed it. Was it a perfect movie? No, it definitely had its flaws (ghost Billy threw me off, but at the same time who can really complain about Skeet Ulrich coming back to the role 25 years later), the pacing in the front half seemed off, but at the same time I feel this is the most relevant Scream movie, and possibly most important. This franchise has always been about the meta aspect, self reference, and throwing something back in the audiences face about the perception of Movies and how they affect people. And with that, this movie I feel is really needed right now. And before you go in to it hoping for it to be like every other scream movie. It isn’t. This isn’t your typical “who is the killer” movie, this is a motive movie, and call out to toxic fandom. The scariest part about this film IS the motive, it isn’t a long lost brother out for revenge, it isn’t a jealous cousin who wants the spotlight, or a butt hurt ex boyfriend. It’s about people not happy with the way “their favorite franchise” is being ruined by new directors and adding elements that don’t need to be there. Toxic fandom at its most extreme, the people threatening death to those involved with “ruining their childhood”. This is the most socially relevant Scream movie ever made, a Scream film with an elevated horror element, that I feel answers a few questions we had when we first heard it was announced: 1: Can they/would they dare kill off a legacy cast member? Dewey was the most underrated member that grew on me over the course of the series. It was heart breaking and horrific to watch him die, but at the same time, it was a death WORTHY Of Dewey. It was drawn out, graphic, emotional and incredibly visceral. But I feel it was important to the franchise, and more importantly… Gale was always going to be too big for Woodsboro, and Dewey WAS Woodsboro. It was a tragic love story from the get go. We get to see what the effect of dealing with this for 25 years has done to Dewey and the reality of losing his sister, wife and his friends. 2: Can they do a Scream movie without the legacy cast? Short answer. Yes. Long answer, This cast was strong, I feel they severely under-utilized Kyle Gallner (as Stu’s nephew I feel like a quick poke to the jugular was a lame death, but I feel like there was a lot edited out of that scene) Kyle Gallner is a great actor and I think he was one of the worst written characters. Mindy Meeks may be my new favorite character (so glad she lived) and her little scene on the couch watching her uncle in stab while the killer was behind her was just brilliant. (So I have a new Goal to get work on “yellowjackets” so I can meet her haha) Radio Silence does an amazing job with creating an entire character and graphic death scene, just so in the third act we could see a banner saying “For Wes”. Brilliant. Craven forever immortalized on screen in the franchise he started. The legacy cast is always amazing, but it’s nice to see a movie with mostly well written characters who can hold their own where you’re not constantly wondering “where’s Sidney? where’s Gail and Dewey?” I personally feel like Jenna Ortegas “Tara” was still the stronger of the two sisters, and hopefully we see her do more in the next one. The cast that survived are all honestly the most likeable characters so I’d be down to se them come Back. 3: Will there be enough fan service? Hell yes. It’s not Thrown in your face constantly, there are a lot of subtle hints that you have to listen for or look out for, ie: Kirby is still alive, Sydney is married to Mark Kincaid, Tatums ashes on Dewey’s shelf, the reveal of Stu’s house. (A little less hinted at, but still a great reveal) and for the diehards who really looked… a hint that Stu may still be alive. A lot of stuff OG fans are going to love, but it’s not “in your face” so it doesn’t alienate anyone who may have not seen a scream movie before (but to get the FULL effect of this movie, I definitely recommend watching the first 4) Side note: I was not a fan of four, but after a few re watches, I’ve come to accept it and appreciate it for what it was trying to say. ( Alison Brie and Hayden not even gonna try and spell her last name, were the best part) This is the first Scream film I’ve ever gotten emotional in haha, when they go to the Meeks house and they pan over Randy’s memorial home theatre… I may have choked up a little. Randy’s my hero haha, Jamie Kennedy and Wes Craven created a new horror movie archetype in 1996, the Randy haha, the one who knows how to survive. Fun fact: I started writing right about the time this movie came out, and ever since I started writing, I’ve always include a character named Randy because of him. And 4: Can they make a marketable Scream movie in 2022? This is for all intents and purposes, a Wes Craven film. It has that tone to it, the meta aspect of a traditional scream film, while still somehow being able to remain true to what Radio Silence is known for, there was no “copycat” technique or “trying” to make a Wes craven film… it was a different film, it just felt like Wes Craven was behind the camera at some points. This is the most brutal ghost face has ever been. The camp and cheese factor is gone, but yet still sharp and funny where it needs to be. But genuinely so. No forced laughs. The legacy cast isn’t over used, and this felt like an honest to god passing of the torch in the franchise. Like the past is important, and they recognize and respect it, but there are new stories to tell in this series. Some that maybe don’t involve Sidney and Gale. Halloween had some successful sequels with out Jamie Lee Curtis, so did Friday the 13th… if they had kept Jamie Lee Curtis on for all 13 movies… that would have gotten old super fast. Scream, in my opinion, has this weird distinction of being the “FINAL final girl” horror movie series, Sidney at the center of every single one, every movie they be made they feel has to be revolved around Her some how. Which makes Neve Cambell the final girl of final girls. Jamie Lee is a final girl, but she hasn’t been the focus Of every Halloween movie ever made. And Jason is the focus of the Friday films. Sidney has been the focus of the scream franchise. Every film. So I feel like fans have a harder time accepting a scream movie with out Neve Campbell. Which I understand. Michael Meyers and Laurie strode are names synonymous with Halloween. Sidney and Ghostface are synonymous with Scream. I get it. But if we stick to the same formula, we never evolve our tastes in what we like. It’s okay to not like something the first time and then growing an appreciation for it over time. This may not be your favorite Scream movie because it doesn’t star Sidney, but anyone saying they didn’t like it because it was too different… I can’t argue with you because, well… films are completely subjective, and that makes your point valid. In closing, I’m looking forward to the next instalment of this franchise. I think Matt and Tyler really went all out and yet managed to keep the flavor of the original in heart. I’m looking toward to the next reveal, maybe a cult of ghost faces, or maybe an open ended scream movie where the killer gets away… I have trust in Radio Silence and can’t wait to see why they do with this franchise .

Just want to drop a quick comment about amber’s “bruise” around collar bone: I believe that’s a birth mark on the actress Mikey Madison. She has it in recent interviews too. It isn’t always visible in all her photos because maybe make up, but definitely a number of appearances in past photos and videos before. But the fact that they didn’t use make up to cover it up in the film-nice. Could be intentional as described and discussed in this video.

I think if it was done purposefully it would be more obvious, but I think it was a creative choice to leave it untouched as to show that it is not a 'blemish' as most people would assume and to try and normalize those sort of things in the "Hollywood" lens

The first red herring of the movie is not a misdirection but reality, which is rewarding for the more pragmatics viewers. It's really Amber... on her phone (caller ID proving it)... disguised as the killer... which she is... about to kill her interlocutor. It's an anti-whodunnit.

There were no red herrings at all... what're ya talkin'bout?!! They used the real voice idea in Scream 3 already. With the voice changer introduced, Roman is speaking on his own voice on the phone and the viewer dismisses it as the killer can use anybody's voice. Nothing new here, no anti-whodunnit or cleverness. Only lazy writing. The whole Scream 2022 is lazy. As a standalone film it'd be OK considering the low standards of the 2000s regarding horror movies. As a Scream sequel... it is rather weak. The killers are obvious from the git-go, not because of clues but because of today's political correctness, you can single out the characters quickly as certain minorities and character depictions are offensive to be killers, it leaves you with the guy and and the girl. I went to see the movie because of Neve's name, she deserves the paycheck, along with Courtney and David, the rest of the movie I wasn't really interested in... more like, I knew it was gonna be in shambles. Melissa did a great job as well. Mikey Madison was pretty fun in the final act, “I was radicalized!!” Definitely a callback to Stu’s “peer pressure! I’m far too sensitive” I love how this movie truly handed over the franchise to a new generation, instead of like Scream 4, every new character introduced ends up dead. The new characters were truly the main focus. I hope if they make a 6, Kirby is involved and maybe takes over the reigns of leading them through since she survived Scream 4 and is a horror movie expert too. The Billy hallucinations were a little weird, but I still kind of loved them, for the simple fact that there were soo many Stu returning theories (I rolled my eyes at these), and I like that there was THIS former killer returning, rather than the one fans hyped themselves up to see again. It also allowed us to have a hint of probably our best Scream killer thus far, which helped emphasize how lame these two killers were, even though their clumsy motive still fit the movie very well. Ritchie was somewhat of an awesome option as a killer; being the love interest made him a red herring, because it seems too obvious for him to be the killer, which was emphasized by Dewey's reference. That aspect made it even better for him to be the killer. Amber, on the other hand, was not someone I bought as the second killer. In a way, her personality fully fit, especially as a toxic fan killer, but her character was too weak for me. I have ignored the size differential between costume killer and revealed killers plenty in the past (particularly with petite Jill), but I could not wrap my head around Amber as the killer, in the physical sense. This is even more true when I thought back to her killing Dewey. I would have preferred to have seen Ritchie outsmart Dewey, but Amber just didn't have enough substance to be awarded that kill. Plus, she was on screen so little throughout (even when physically there, she seemed to hold little significance), and that made it harder to feel her being a killing fit. Roman was off screen quite a lot, but that seemed more appropriate with the movie set scenario. Despite that issue, I really liked the movie, and absolutely agree with the joy of the Meeks kids surviving (a nice little ode to Randy). I also loved the Wes and Judy scene for it's suspenseful play with the doors, but also for its unique killings. The emotion was definitely there for both kills, even though Judy was not a favorite from Scream 4, but we hadn't seen many daytime kills before. Plus, Judy running into the blade, and Wes slowly being stabbed in the neck were a bit atypical kills as well. That both made me focus more on Wes's death, specifically, which made the tribute to Wes Craven even better. Take a shot for Wes! Can't wait to watch the movie again. It's the perfect re-quel, and solidly fits amongst the first 2 in my top 3 Scream movies. Bonus, the way the movie ended with Sid and Gale was satisfying enough that I fully believe a future sequel could be made without either one, and still remain true to the franchise (though I would still welcome more Sidney)...as long as some of the new survivors are in it, or if Kirby is brought back.
@TheLastSane1 Жыл бұрын
See I agree I disliked Deweys death especially on first watch after learning who the killer was. Because while there is some suspension of disbelief to the killers when they are in the suit. The death felt unsatisfying to me when its revealed Amber physically overpowered Dewey which is just hard to imagine when Gale and Sidney seem to be easily able to knock her around. i think if they were gonna have it be Amber as the killer the kill should have been more sneaky, or cunning. Stabbing him once in the gut stunning him and leaving him unable to move makes no sense for a guy who has been stabbed so much and is already running on adrenaline. Then her basically lifting him off the ground to gut him was just kind of nonsense given her size. Dewey has a good 70+ lbs on her and 6" of height as well even in the suit they arent bigger than him. Yeah he is older but she would have been a little girl still. Also bullet proof vest or not she took several slugs to the chest thats gonna bruise like fuck and might even break ribs on someone of her size.

I absolutely loved this movie. For me, it was an awesome way to start a new story and honor the legacy characters. I have some thoughts about a few of the inconsistencies you pointed out in the movie: --> The part about Sidney not appearing on the Stab movies, I think it's actually that she threatened to sue if they continued using her story, not her image/name. So probably she did appear in all of the films except for Stab 8, but only up until 3 it was her real lifestory that was featured, and 4-7 it was a fictional plot, but still featuring the "character" Sidney, because Sunrise Studios could still have rights over that character. --> The part about Judy being a character on Stab, I think they probably made a fictional story that included Judy Hicks, because even though a movie about the events of Scream 4 was not made, Gale still wrote the book about the massacre, so the producers could have seen Judy being mentioned by Gale and decided to use her, so that the Stab requel could have connections with the past (I like to believe that, since Judy is Sidney's former schoolmate, and Gale's writing should be not very positive towards Judy, they could have made her a killer in Stab 8 😅). --> When Sidney says that Billy started it all, instead of Roman, maybe she's referring to Billy cheating on her with Sam's mother, getting her pregnant. I don't know how the timeline goes at this point, but maybe that could have been before Billy killed Maureen. Those are my opinions so that these bits could make sense 😊 but still, great video, I'm a big fan of your work!

My take on Judy: Judy could still be a character in Stab 8. I think a lot of folks think stab 8 is entirely unrelated and strays too far from the original stab (as explained in the film), and therefore, Judy can’t be in the movie. But that’s not true-they are not mutually exclusive. Judy could be used as a character in stab 8, without the entire movie being based on events of scream 4. Liv’s last name is McKenzie and given Scream 2022’s emphasis on them being related to the original murders, I wondered if Liv was somehow related to the neighbors of Casey
@pattierotondo110811 ай бұрын
Maybe. They do like to link everyone in Woodsboro together. The reason that Casey's father says that during the beginning of the original Scream is as an homage to the movie Halloween from 1978. After Laurie Strode thinks she has killed Michael Myers, she gets the children out of their hiding place, then tells them to go to the McKenzies and ask them to call the police and send them to where she is.

And in Halloween H20, Jamie/Laurie tells her son and his gf to go to the Becker’s house before smashing the control panel, locking herself in with Michael. (Kevin Williamson was involved in the writing of H20 also)

Another way to look at the Stab inconsistencies is that even tho Stab didn’t base the rest of the movies after 3 on Sidney Prescott, they could have still used the character in other ways. Possibly they bring Judy in Stab 8 to prepare her for the next movie “Scream 4/Stab 9”. They probably are just forgotten and not paid enough attention to moments but, this would be a decent work around.

I thought the motive was horrible. I honestly thought it was the family members/relatives of the original victims getting revenge on the family members/relatives of Billy and Stu. How the deaths of the victims of part one deeply affected their families. I'm so happy that you also understood and liked the motive of the killers. I'm in a group on FB and there were so many people who thought the motive was dumb or unrealistic or etc. But as someone who is around toxic fans, it was completely in the realm of things that a toxic fan would do. Especially in the scream universe. Also! I enjoyed that Gale made it a point that she wouldn't write about them because they should be forgotten. They were toxic and shitty and those sort of fans should be forgotten when it comes to something you love.
@jonaskeller46872 жыл бұрын
I thought the whole "How can fandom be toxic? It's about love" bit was also a nice way to connect toxic fandom with more personal toxic relationships. Richie bragging/slut-shaming Sam for sleeping with him was a good callback to Billy manipulating Sidney into bed, and it drove home the point that what seems like love on the surface can actually be the exact opposite. I just wish there would have been some kind of conversation between Tara and Amber after the reveal. We never really saw Tara deal with finding out it was her best friend who brutally tortured her.

I know the Sidney being in seven Stab movies was an oversight or error, but in my head canon I explain it like this: In the run up to Scream 4, there was promotional material that included Gale Weathers' books. Amongst these were fictional books she wrote after the original trilogy based on actual events concluded. The fictional books that presumably the subsequent Stab movies were based on. These books followed Sidney's fictional daughter Ashley Prescott. The Stab movies could have been about Ashley and thus indirectly include Sidney in the story or have a highly fictionalized version of Sidney. They said Stab 5 had time travel so it could be possible they retconned Sidney's story. This could be an in-universe explanation. Also, since they were not allowed to use Sidney's story and Scream 2022 already mentioned Stab 8 was completely messed up and unrealistic, Stab 8 could have had Deputy Hicks as a character but the story and other characters may have been completely made up and very loosely based on the events of Scream 4.

The killer duo has to be an homage to the leaked killer duo of scream 2: Derek/Richie and Hallie/Amber being fans of the genre/franchise and meeting on a forum. Derek/Richie being the boyfriend and Hallie/Amber being the best friend. Derek/Richie and Hallie/Amber being a secret couple (Derek calls Hallie honey after their reveal and Amber calls Richie babe). I never understand people that say serial killers in a movie have a "bad motive". As if there's some motive out there that will justify anyone becoming a serial killer. I’m positive they’ll make another SCREAM due to its box office earnings…plus once they do, I believe Tara will become the new lead and Sam will get killed off, because if you pay close attention at the end of the movie when Sam is talking to Tara while she’s being tended to, she says “I’ll be right back!” Which of course is one of the top rules you are never supposed to say!

I kind of understood this as a signal of relief: It's ok now to say "I'll be right back" because the nightmare is over. You could still be right, of course. Right? Hell, that's why Billy having a cell phone in 1996 was such a big deal in the movie. When he tells the Sheriff that everyone has them these days, that was bullshit. Nobody had those. Back then it was beepers. Which is why it would have been easy for them to frame Sydney's dad for the murders if everything went to plan. Nobody would have believed that teenagers had cellphones, but their parents? Now that is more believable. so use her dad's phone to make some of the calls, and he's the patsy.

@@jaydonarchuleta5691 Actually, most likely both killed three people each: Amber killed Judy, Dewey and Liv. She also attacked Tara and Chad. Richie killed Vince, Wes and the policeman at the hospital. He also attacked Mindy. We know this because of a) being told/shown at times a solid alibi for the other killer (the attacks on Tara, Chad and Mindy as well as the murder of Dewey) or being shown the killer (Liv getting shot); and b) because we can deduce from the differing attack routines that Amber liked to stab repeatedly to the torso as she did with Chad and thus must be responsible for killing Judy as well, and that Richie liked to kill with one single blow to the throat as he tried with Mindy as well (he got her shoulder instead) and thus is most likely responsible for killing Vince, Wes and the policeman. It's not as bulletproof as Amber's vest, but it's the only clear pattern I can make out after having seen it three times.

True, and that is kind of a pity. But it made sense within the story: Amber and Richie are cowards, they always directly attack from a hiding place.
