I’m bought the gen 1 a few weeks back for under $30. It blew my mind how good it is. I have been using an old Milwaukee 20v 3/8 impact. This 12 volt Hyper Tough is plenty for most jobs. It’s my go to and my get my Milwaukee if I need a bit more. I am looking at getting a Hyper Tough 1/2 drive 20v next for when I need serious torque.

Since I got the Gen 2 I’ve only been able to use it on some light engine bay work on a 97 Tahoe. I’m hoping to be able to use it soon on some brake caliper brackets. I used the gen 1 on caliper brackets and it worked great. Also really wanting to pick up a 6AH battery, because it’ll give it that much more edge. Great test! Weld the adaptor to the socket? i got large 3/8" drive sockets from Matco for changing oil filters, but they haven't broken when using them for axle nuts 😂
@zacksintheshop
@zacksintheshop 2 ай бұрын
When I research this in the past, it looked like there were oil filter sockets that fit the bill. Like you, I figured they wouldn’t withstand an impact wrench. A little welding might just be what the doctor ordered. Thanks for the tips and comment.
@Iowa599
@Iowa599 2 ай бұрын
@@zacksintheshop the "oil filter" sockets are just as tough as normal sockets, & Matco is lifetime warranty. They're just shorties, for tight spaces. Matco knows people will use them for what they fit, not just plastic filter caps, so they're built for whatever a 3/8 can toss. They also charge for that... I have used my 20 year old 3/8 air impact (also Matco) on them since I got them ~10 years ago.

FWIW, I bought one for light duty professional work, and it's OK, except that it does NOT have a variable trigger as advertised. Decent torque, feels good in the hand, takes a day of light use to drop a bar of battery, and recharges easily via USB C. Hopefully mine was a dud/incorrectly manufactured first run, because with a variable speed trigger, its a 5 star tool for light tasks. Without one, it's too much torque for many engine or transmission pan bolts with no way to turn it down.
@Xaluber
@Xaluber 2 ай бұрын
@@Wizkid490 Good to hear it has a decent amount of torque, but sucks it has a trigger issue. Maybe try exchanging it? I keep thinking about it but it’s hard to justify $30 when the 12v model is only $10 more. I do like how small it is though…

@@Wizkid490 I happened to be in Walmart today so I checked and all 3 of the 4V ratchets they had are just on/off, no variable speed as the box states. I wonder if it's a bad batch or if they just got the specs wrong.

I have the gen 2 3/8 and I love it for the price. Only $55 it performs very well. Only complaint is that when the trigger is pulled in, and you slowly let off the trigger, the rpm doesn’t drop and immediately stops when you let go. My Milwaukee 1/2 inch you can pull the trigger all the way in and slow it down almost all the way before it stops. Would’ve been nice to have that slow stop feature. But for $55 I can’t complain much
