In Zain's defense, Marth might be the top tier most susceptible to the Jank of lower tier characters. From Pikachu to Yoshi to Icies and etc. Marth has to play really disciplined against a lot of characters and if you're matchup practice isn't on that day then you can get worked

Melee is so much better when there is an elite ICs at the top. Wobbles in his prime and Chu especially for as long as he was at the top. Completely different character, fresh matchups and ripe for bracket breaks and upsets. There was a void in the scene with Slug basically retiring or being extremely inactive where he might as well be MIA. Great run for Nicki hopefully he's at the top for a while.

Pikachu has been a complicated marth matchup forever, Yoshi might just beat Marth and ICs is just one loss since like 2022 I think, in a matchups that is not that much Marth favoured (SluG beat Zain in 2022 and is 2-0 on kodorin, he thinks it's even-ish). Link is the one where he probably just underperforms at the matchup. Marth in general might be one of the weaker top tiers when it comes to dealing with mid tiers, like Puff Falco Fox and Peach are often way more oppressive overall,

the very first stock made me very pleased. For the commentators and anyone else who may not know, that WAS guaranteed. Handoffs are guaranteed by the ledge, but also on the edge of platforms. There area on that platform where you can land a grab such that you're past the middle of the platform so nana will fthrow, but also you still have enough space to get enough handoffs to kill from 5% is pretty small.

I remember when Zain lost to Slug and people attacked me for not liking how Zain plays the match up. Saying Zain is the best Marth automatically meaning that he's great in the match up. Nope, under the rules you get three hits (6 if you count each Ice Climber) before you have to release. You can then re-grab, which is what he does here. It takes skill and is considerably more challenging than zero to death wobbling.
