Because meta viability has nothing to do with why most people like characters, which is their story and personality. Obviously most meta slaves will probably get confused why characters like Xiao, Keqing, and Diluc are popular because they only care about their in-game usability and they usually skip through the entire story.

Honestly it was fine with Gorou since he was already good at C0, it was fine with Sara since Raiden is very strong by herself and with Fischl, but Faruzan is just a broken mess. No character should start to become functional at c6

I got Xiao at 20 pity on his first banner back in early 2021 and I've loved playing him ever since, even as he's fallen down in the meta I still use him on the lower floors and sometimes floor 12. If you enjoy his gameplay (which I personally do) I think he's more than strong enough to justify pulling. If you're not a fan of his gameplay then clearly you can skip, but me personally? I love playing Xiao.

ive always defined hypercarry as a character you funnel all of your damage support on so that they do the majority of the teams damage. i.e. hypercarry raiden, xiao, hutao before double hydro, yoimiya, ayaka, ganyu. this doesnt mean you cant make the supports on these teams do damage, or that you cant simply run them with other sub dps, but the hypercarry teams associated w these characters just funnel buffs onto one character usually

I pulled Xiao this time and now I leveled him to 6/2/5 lvl79, artifact double 18% ATK. I tried Xiao with Faruzan C6, Benett C6 and John Lee C0 in Abyss 12 and my feelings are as follows: Pros: - Both support chars do not need very good builds, as long as their ER are adequate and their buffing skills are leveled up. - Very good synergy with Faruzan C6, both knocking-back and EM problems are vastly eased. - Literally no need to get any early constellations, compared to Itto, etc. - PJWS are pullable in any banner. I got four before I got Xiao. - The gameplay is as braindead as C6 Itto IMO. The ←→q↑↓↑↓↑↓ feels very satisfying. Cons: - A Faruzan C6 is almost a must, or Xiao will suffer energy problems. - Benett needs a TON of ER, 260% with Fav. Sword in my case. I feel that there is no way he could use Aquila F. in this team to achieve max buff. - I have to watch my Xiao's energy all the time and save energy for the next floor. Especially if Xiao enters 12-2-1 without energy then he is done. - The area for movement of Xiao is heavily restrained by Faruzan's and Bennet's bursts. - The clear time of this team is either very good or quite bad. If you need another rotation to clear the floor due to insufficient damage, the timer will go easily +30s.

I still remember getting Xiao on his first banner. Felt really special. I think back then, he was the first legit "carry" style character who was advertised as such, so I had huge expectations (I think you could argue Klee, but I didn't take her seriously). I had picked him over Ganyu, who turned out to be an S tier pull, so whenever I'd be using him, it felt like he was trying to prove himself and catch up to the dominant Ganyu. There were some tough 36*s under him, but he did always get me there. Think I haven't played him in over a year though. Haven't had much reason to bring him out. Would be nice if Genshin found a way to revitalize older characters. If they gave characters an extra dimension, I'd love to go back to the older cast of 5*s who I never use these days.

originally I pulled for xiao because I didn't get zhongli on the previous patch, and tbh I didn't regret pulling for him (and accidentally getting his c1 during last year's lantern rite run out of a boredom pull) because I like fast and no nonsense kit, and xiao's is exactly that in my eyes. sadly he's also the one that I benched quite early compared to my other mains simply because I got bored with his gameplay (I have no attachment to the character or personality like my other mains) but idk I might try using him again if faruzan decided to come home, yes even at c0

He does in his stream. Pretty meta from my understanding. His c0 ceiling ST is 40-50% more than c0 wanderer according to Zajeff calc. If Xiao isnt meta then wanderer is diluc tier. Zajeff rule is understanable but a little weird. His basline is c0 5s + c6 4s but he excluded new c6 4star unit aka faruzan. I mean eventually you will have to talk about it anyway so why not talk about it now?

Ok do you have C2-6 Faruzan on every account? No. Unless you specifically pulled for Wanderer or Itto recently you aren't gonna have a high cons faru and at that point pulling a Xiao from a gameplay perspective is sus. Yeah he is better than Wanderer but not so much that you would pull him if you already had wanderer. So at that point you are pulling because you like the character anyways.

He did say there is an argument for using c2 faruzan. Specifically at around 3:10, you will get bigger numbers. That being said, I remember energy being quite the issue for faruzan pre c6, which might be the reason not to use her. Also, you really need to consider the assumptions people make when doing damage calcs (maybe no zhongli like Francisco J.G. said, but especially substats, rotations, and practicality )

One thing to keep in mind: If you're farming FLOP you're gonna want Deepwood, so you likely already have Gilded. In that case, Vermillion is a better choice for Xiao because the Echoes 2 Piece gives ATK%

Been using him with Jean on one of my Abyss sides since his first banner, and honestly, always pick him over my benched Raiden, Yae, etc. He's just too comfortable in a sense. Can ignore 95% of all kinds of shields , mow down AOE which is most of abyss and can use 1-2 slots for literally anything. Just struggles a bit in single target in last abyss aside from which never found him underwhelming. The HP drain is probably my biggest complain as a character, which is stupidly made canonical part of him and doesn't need it .

My Faruzan runs Exile. She has no issues getting her burst up at C2 with Fav bow, 48% crit, and 247.5% ER. Bennett runs the Noblesse, it runs the same time as his burst so it's helpful in that way. I don't run a 3rd anemo. Currently it's Zhongli because I have nothing better to slot there but sometimes it's Thoma. Eh, Pyro Resonance seems to do as much as Zhongli's overshredding tbh. If I get Thoma C6 though he should be marginally better. Exile seems to help exactly enough for everyone to get their Bursts back. My ZHongli runs TotM is probably why. Thoma can't run anything useful. Might run Dehya with him when she's out.
