My 4 month old Rottweiler is a sweetheart, but one thing she is doing is biting my daughter's dog's legs, ears, and his lips. He is a cocker spaniel and he doesn't stand up for himself. She doesn't bite me at all, obdience training she past with flying colors. I train her, I had more than one Rottweiler. I train her everyday. and play also. I just want her to stop biting him. Also the cocker lives with my rottie. They play everyday, but sometimes when Roxy my rottie tries to get him to play by shoving a toy in his face. I do a correction noise and she will.listen. Outside she does the extra biting Cooper.

My GSD 8 months old female has these exact same issues and only seems to be getting worse as she grows older. I’m 5’1 and my kiddo is 7. My dog Savage nearly towers us now, she’s strong! and we need desperate help! I’ve called every training facility in the area and they wait list is months on end long and not to mention $3 grand+ I’ve followed all your videos and have tried all the tips and tricks but her play biting is getting worse as she’s getting bigger and stronger!! She is in no way aggressive but she jumps on us (face level) and only obeys when “she” chooses too. She constantly challenges me (mostly my daughter) which is interesting.. when my daughter isn’t home, she behaves so much better. But she almost “competes” with my daughter as if she’s a dog or someone in competition with. Likely she just wants to play and she has a ton of energy. She knows the basic sit down lay down stay etc. but she is nearly impossible to walk her on a leash as she pulls and jumps on everything. She slips her harness and I’ve tried multiple brands. I’ve had dogs my entire life and she is my by far the most difficult and over stimulated dog I’ve EVER dealt with! Again, she’s not bad (and I admit it’s likely user error) She is very similar to this dog on the video though, which gives me some hope that she can change! I’m at a loss as to what to do at this point. My arms and legs are all scratched and or bitten up from her “puppy bites and scratches” I cannot get a muzzle on her for the life of me, she pulls them off. I’ve purchased Every single “lead, slip lead harness collar etc. but she won’t close her mouth long enough for me to get them on her. She bites her leashes or chokes herself crazy when I attempt to walk her. I feel like I’ve tried all I know how to do at this point, with the exception of professional help. Which is 1) hell of expensive and 2) apparently no one has the time.. If you or anyone can help me I WILL thank you with my life!!! I love my dog but i may have to find her a new home if this continues on (for the sake of my daughter) 😩 please please help!!

@@sb.yourstruly I am just watching/scanning thru these videos & noticed your comment. Am not a professional dog trainer. However, I have know exactly what you are experiencing. Have had dogs dogs my entire life ,began rescuing labs when I was in my teens and a few years ago(10) took on my first GSD rescue. Can first tell you for sure that alot of progress can be made with a GSD much like a Labrador that has "behavior issues" like you are experiencing...and that is lots of engaging activity & exercise. I know that sounds like a simply answer to what is a daily struggle for you. BUT let me say this- It Will be the most amazing relationship you have ever had with a dog if you don't give up and make it thru these difficult times with your GSD. It's also important to mention that this happens frequently with GSD's and it can be very detrimental to a GSD and their ability to develop into a well behaved dog/pet if it gets caught up in a cycle where it goes from one home after the other as most people do not know and are not equipped or have the true desire to give the time to truly own/train a GSD. They tend to build strong bonds with people and being handed over(which happens way more than you can imagine) is a hurdle for the dog to get past. You can only imagine what eventually becomes of GSD's that find themselves in these types of cycles. I don't know an answer to this. A better job could be done by the breeders to better vet whether or not potential new owners are capable and are completely aware of what is going to be required of them. Don't want to judge or persuade/prevent anyone from owning a GSD from being able to do so. Know that almost all people have great intentions and are often experienced dog owners. But almost more often than not you see the same cycle where people get a GSD and it is not something that they are prepared for and either tie it up to a tree and throw it a bowl of food once or twice a day or they recognize that its somethimng that they can't handle or don't have the time or desire to deal with and give it away to someone else who does not know or is not capable of owning/training the dog...and the cycle continues. forgive what may seem like a rant, but see it all the time and it is the dog that ultimately pays the price. GSD's are the most intelligent dogs and have the desire /capability to be the best dog a family or an individual owner could ever had. Hate to see this happen so, please do not give up on the dog. I PROMISE YOU it will be the best dog and the most satisfying dog owning experience that you could ever imagine. Please update on what your current situation is with your GSD and if there is anything at all I could do to help you please do not hesitate to reply. Am in the process of trying to put together a rescue/help network in my region to help people with GSD's who are in situations like yours and/or help facilitate the re-homing of GSD's who have been given up due to behavior issues by tarining potential new owners to better increase the success.

Please tell me what to do if my 6 month old pup still viciously attacks me, when she gets her zoomies. It's so aggressive, I have to suppress the urge to kick her (which I of course have never done), when she jumps at my legs, trying to bite them.
@leejennifercorlewayres9193 Жыл бұрын
@@notlisztening9821 Same problem here. Personally I think they are being remotely mind control programmed to act out more. It's so aggressive. I've put a prong collar on mine as it's the only way I am able to stay safe, and he even challenges the prong! I'm going to try some odd noises next I think. Someone suggested downloading an air horn app. I've also seen dog repellent noise makers for sale in PetSmart.

Honestly finally seeing a video with an actual untrained dog which alot of are dealing with right now is so refreshing. I mean if zach a dog trainer is getting frustrated and struggling slightly to train this dog, imagine how us normal non dog trainers feel hahaha. I am currently in the exact same situation with my dog, thankfully he is half the size of the german shephard but that doesnt make it any easier when he is in public. Watching and learning all i can too help myself help my dog. Just like this girl, it is not her fault she hasnt learned before now, and its not my dogs fault either. It always comes down to the owners. So im glad i can watch these real videos to learn how to be a better dog mum to my dog.

The biggest lesson I am getting from Zak's videos is to BE PATIENT, which is so hard, especially for me! I want my Moira 2.0 to stop barking at other dogs NOW! You often can't see the progress when you are in the middle of it, but even 2 seconds of more focus on you is progress. Celebrate the small successes and don't focus on perfection.

If she knows the word "ok" means she is released and can go after the thing you threw based on sessions prior, perhaps try asking for a "sit" a "stay" and then say "come", not "ok". She knows what "come" means but she also seems to know "ok" is a release. Just a thought. This series is helping me a ton with my pup
@rmbtd3 жыл бұрын
The reason she is struggling to come to you when passing a toy, is because you are giving her the release command first "okay." You're saying "okay, come" The release command tells her that she is free to do whatever she wants, she is out of command. Just give her the "come" command by itself, it will help to make things more clear for her.

Thank you for this series. I just adopted a big jumper. I chose her because she is athletic as we live on a boat. She needs to jump on and off the boat at the dock. She loves to greet people by jumping, so I am working on that. Because he loves jumping, I have taught him to jump for treats. To get his energy stabilized, I take him to the playground where he climbs the ladder, goes down the little slide, and crawls through the tunnel. He’s learning to catch a frisbee, etc. By training him that it’s okay to jump for fun, but not on people, I hope to let him be himself when and where it’s appropriate. Many thanks because you are teaching me how to teach my dog. Thank you.

Moira treated that Dremel like a toy. Also noticed you said "okay" to release her from the stay and she (I think) thought the "okay" meant it was alright to check out the toy. A great way to show that a change in circumstances pushes the training backwards until the dog makes the connection.

We have worked on providing a toy to bite rather than human limbs since he was a puppy, but he still tends to explore with his mouth. I will try this next step. Jumping and over excitement with guests is another major issue! He s a covid pup, so visitors are rare. A 73 lb dog jumping at you can be overwhelming!

Thank you so much for this video. I've rescued many dogs and in November brought home a one-year old 120lb Cane Corso who had been rehomed twice for being "aggressive". Turns out he's not aggressive at all, but his play biting was just being misinterpreted. A big dog with a big bite would be scary for someone who isn't used to large and in charge breeds, I'm sure. I've tried many ways to use distraction to break him of it, but didn't think to use a squeaky toy - which he loves. Your video helped me realize what I was missing. Hopefully he will be over it in no time.

So...you teach her that when you drop a toy, she ignores it, and you say “okay” she gets to grab the toy. It’s pretty obvious why when you drop a toy, say “okay”, and then “come”, she grabs the toy. Don’t say “okay” if you want her to come. Just give the recall command. Okay means that she gets to break and do what she wants so of course she will be confused and grab the toy, like she did, because that is how you trained her. It seems pretty apparent in that lesson that if you wouldn’t cross your commands that she would have listened.

I hope this comes across in a respectful way. So I noticed you say "ok" for her to go after the toy. You then say she is a little hesitant to release to go after the toy at the "ok". Yet later when you are working to call her past the toy you also say "ok" followed by "come". Perhaps saying "come" without the "ok" will be less confusing for her? I think she is trying to figure out when it is truly ok to go for the toy. Also just some thoughts on toy retrieval, perhaps use something like "go get it" or "fetch" for a release to the toy, and save the "ok" for releasing out of a stay position. Also when you do use "come" or "here" she seems to know to focus on you much better then the "ok come".

What I realize watching his videos is that you have to try different things with ur dog. Not everything works for every dog. Like for when he was trying to get her to come to him with the toys right there. He had to start off by being close. Other dogs you could probably start off further. Every dog is different and that’s why I like his videos because even he has to figure out makes the dog listen.

What is the leash that is tied to you and the dog used at 7:10? This dog's behavior is so similar to my 1.5 yr old German Shepherd/Australian Collie mix. He has within the past few months become reactive on the leash and when he is tied up in our yard. He charges and lunges and barks at dogs that walk by and certain people that he doesn't like. Dogs he is unfamiliar with he is extremely reactive on the leash, even dogs he met when he was a puppy but stopped consistently seeing he acts this way towards. When he was a puppy he did not exhibit this behavior and when he at the dog park off leash he is perfectly fine. It is only on the leash and when on the line in the yard he acts this way. The biggest problem I am now experiencing is he tries to bite people. Just as when your mother in-law visited and the dog in this video was so sweet that is how my dog typically is to people he knows and was typically to people he would meet at the dog park when not on leash. I am looking in to finding a trainer to help me with this as it is so frustrating and disheartening to think you have failed your dog. He was socialized with other dogs as a puppy and was even foster with my sister's dog when we first got him for 1.5 - 2 months.

Omg my puppy is like this I am finding it hard. I've had him a couple weeks and this is obviously the reason previous owners wanted him gone and money of course. I don't want to give up on him and really want to get his behaviour under control. He has learnt to sit and toilet trained in the time with me but that was very difficult. It's mainly biting arm and leg if I walk in garden I've noticed it's definitely if I'm hanging washing or not interacting with him directly and he will pull washing out my hand and of washing line. I do throw him his toys if he does this to divert his attention but later he will do it again.

Do you have a video to train an adult medium dog to stop nipping at strangers' heals? I am caring for my elder mother while I work and nurses come to the house, my dog Moriarty nips their heals, I have to get him to stop.

How do you get away from your dog jumping and nipping your arm/leg (painfully) while walking your dog? I have a 6 month old male Golden. He will walk along side of me for about 10 minutes but then turns around and nipping at my body. How do you block that behavior?

I am surprised Zak didn't use Leave It whenever Moira was going for the toy. Was this command just a temporary thing for the start?

My GSD hates people. It’s NOT the happy jump that Moira does. My groomer picks up my collie and he loses his mind every time she comes over. He’s crated for both of their safety but he won’t take treats from her regardless how much she tries to make nice with him.

He’s already got a bite record because he sent me to the ER when I rescued my daughters cat from his teeth - I’m pretty sure he has no idea he actually bit me, he was just gripping up on his favorite new toy. ☹️

Do you think it is ok for a dog to growl when they are tugging with you on a toy?

My dog is 1.5 years old. We worked through her barking while on walks and in the house when she was very young, but suddenly the past couple of months she has started barking at dogs and people outside, and ONLY when we're inside. It doesn't seem to be a boredom issue, as she'll even do it after a hike or fetch/training session when she's in the middle of a nap. She has really solid recall and she's run up to me as soon as I call, but she'll bark until I do call her. Is there any way I can work through this? Any feedback would be awesome!

@Zak George When you use a toy as a distraction doesn't it help to tell the dog to leave it, and then to come?

I know pupford treats are freeze dried but are they "hard treats"? Recently I got my grandfathers senior dog and I am starting to train her(she knows sit, about 60% of the time. She doesnt have alot of teeth left and has kidney issues so treats are pretty limited Ive found.

Hey guys same here my 9 months old Shepherd/Husky is trained by me, and is great with discipline and commands. But whenever I talk to people, he starts jumping up & mouthing on me, and it looks like I don't train him at all.
