Love that you are covering Zakhara. Al-Qadim was my first long term campaign (still the longest) and was amazing fun. Perhaps you could cover Maztica? It's a sorely underrated and mostly forgotten setting.

Perhaps I can, it's on my list whenever I get to researching :)

Thank you for doing these, you're making this old gamer's heart happy. Al Qadim was one of my favorite settings so getting lore videos for these whippersnappers is a blast.

"They can go anywhere and do most anything" sneaky little Alladin reference
@isphus5 жыл бұрын
Zakhara originally came out a few months after the Alladin movie in 1992, and the book specifically mentions situations from the movie (without ever mentioning it by name of course). WotC missed one hell of an opportunity not re-releasing Zakhara along with the live action Alladin.
@powerist2092 жыл бұрын
Well, except live-action Aladdin is contentious (as in people disliking the remake) to be "a big release" (even excluding sensitivity, they were working on Frostmaiden and possibly coincide with Wasteland 3 since the studios also worked for DnD licensed products). And for some reason, 80's and 90's seems to have more middle-east themed products (both "evil exotic foreign country that is totally not Iran or Iraq" and "Arabian Nights"). You know amount of jeer at Will Smith as Genie.

Modern RPG fans: Eberron from 2004 is the first time DnD ever treated monster races as just regular people! It's the first ever truly equal setting that pushes away from DnD's need to treat monsters as inherently evil! Al-Qadim in 1992: Oh, that's cute. What I love about Zakhara is that the books for it involve very little unique mechanical features, it's almost all lore and setting aside from some unique kits which are basically just subclasses. This makes it exceedingly easy to run in 5e, because it's all just putting yourself in the right mindset and picking the right monsters. 5e doesn't have playable ogres like 2e did (cowards), but goliaths make perfectly reasonable substitutes and are my go-to race to represent playable ogres or giants.

I’m planning on taking over DMing soon and didn’t have my home brew world ready for play yet (I got history figured out but working on prime locations, and without elementary cartography skills is kind of hard to grasp and organize). And Heliana’s guide to monster hunting won’t be out till late this year. Having done so much Faerun content as a player, this setting is SCREAMING for a campaign where I can write in the blanks for the missing years myself!

I do enjoy your videos about Forgotten realms and all it's areas and how thorough your research is. I look forward to a video about Sha'irs of Zakhara in the future. I wonder how they would function in 5th ed. Perhaps a type of warlock?
@Jorphdan5 жыл бұрын
My guess a warlock patron, but you could make an argument for a sorcerer as well :)

There's a 3rd-party supplement called "Deep Magic: Elemental Magic" that has, among other things, a genie warlock patron. I'd use that.

You posted a question a couple of days ago asking if we would like to see videos on your campaign prep. I have a request. I’d like to see campaign wrap up reports. Basically a 10-20 minute write up in a story format of what happened in your gaming session. Matt Colville did several of these and they were insanely entertaining. But then he made a ton of money and his channel went to shit. It’s a really cool way to follow a storyline and it’s kinda like having a comic book series as a podcast.
