Fistandantilus is the #1 dark mage of his era, perhaps as strong as any mage prior to the Cataclysm. It goes to show just how powerful Raistlin was to challenge him. But even the most mighty can fall to the machinations of the small. A certain gnome with his Kender friend! 🤓

Gnomes are Dwarfs that couldn't cut it and had to take a telemarketing job. Gnomes suck, I can make my own fkn lightning jars.
I believe that Fistandantilus and Raistlin are one and the same person. They must be entangled in some kind of timeloop. Even when Raistlin went back in time, we don't actually know who won the contest. It all starts with Raistlin being born, raised, passing the test, marked by Fistandantilus, blah blah blah goes back in times, merges with Fistandantilus, does not know if he is Raist or Fist and the loop happens again. At least this is what I believe from the material I 'very read so far!

As one of the people who initially suggested it via comment, I'm very glad that you made this video about my favorite character in the books. You did an excellent job of getting all the lore details right, even though you did miss the events of the novel Fistandantilus Reborn (which is probably for the best, since that book deals with wonky alternate timelines and it is probably not even canon). That said, the ending of Dragons of an Hourglass Mage is something you might bring up in some future video, since it re-writes the ultimate fate of this character in a way that I'm not sure many fans liked, and it finally closes the loop begun by Tass in the Abyss, when he told the Queen of Darkness everything. She does indeed send Fistandanilus back through the Istar portal, granting him a body once again and a bloodstone (don't know if it was the original or a new one). She does this at exactly the right moment to change her loss into a win, at the cost of creating a massive time paradox. The outcome of this action raises all sorts of headache inducing questions about Raistlin as a character in the Legend books, and why he does some of the things he does, which now make absolutely no sense.

I will do a show on Raistlin sometime, but I have to spend time on that one since it is so close to everyone's heart. The master of past and present wore all 3 robes, also I believe that Fistandantilus won the battle of Raistlins body but the spell didn't work as he had planned. The clue to this is in the title of the book the soulforge. The spell forged the souls of both Fistandantilus and Raistlin together creating a hybrid essence. Also this is foreshadowed in the original trilogy where Raistlin explains that he and Caramon were one being cursed in two bodies he with the intelligence and no physical power and Caramon the opposite

I think its all semantics. The game mechanics were ignored in the novels after Winters Night.
@Z1gguratVert1go2 жыл бұрын
@@DLSaga You're right it is semantics, in a funny way. Back then it was interchangeable, now it's not because editions change things. The way I would handle it is this: No sorcerers on Krynn. They just don't happen there. Thus anybody called a sorcerer is just a wizard, like D&D used to be until 3E. Besides, if we allow everything in every world then every world is the same. In order to make worlds distinctive, you have to be willing to say no from time to time. I handled this paradox for our Forgotten Realms game by saying that wizards and sorcerers have been around for a while but commoners (and indeed anybody who has no ranks in the Spellcraft skill) can't tell the difference. Also we decided that sorcerers are far less numerous because anybody with a bit of brains and the will can become a wizard for at least a level or two, while sorcery is in the blood and a "recessive trait" at that.

Through his link with fist?
@fleetcenturion3 жыл бұрын
There are a _lot_ of inconsistencies with the novels and the game stats. Going by DragonLance Adventures, Raistlin wouldn't have had access to many of his signature spells. My conclusion is that it was all bunk, and the game designers had no idea what they were doing. They also wanted to deliberately nerf Black Robe wizards, after just finishing a book series where everyone ended up cheering for the bad guy.
@DLSaga3 жыл бұрын

@@DLSaga Morgul said: Having played extensively in Forgotten Realms and Dragonlance, with access to the stats of both characters in question, I would like to weigh in. I literally just made an account to do so. Raistlin is the superior magic user. Elminster is the stronger character. Still doesn't say who would win in a fight though. As I recall Raistlin was a level 27-29 magic user in 3.5. Elminster was like 32ish...? I'm too lazy to drag out the books right now. What I do recall is Elminster also had a couple of fighter levels, cleric, and rogue. While these are tricks that help in a fight, they detract from his competency in magic(not to say he isn't awesome). Also, not due to power settings but character preference, Elminser was a magic item whore. Decked out from head to toe. Raistlin personally detested mages who overly relied on magic items. Like Elminster. So he kept his to a minium so as to rely solely upon his own abilities. Elminter gets further boosts being a Chosen of Mystra; Raistlin killed his gods(ALL of them) in an alternate timeline and they never forgave him that fact. So Elminster gets an advantage there as well. Returning to the subject of magic items again, just because Raistlin was disdainful doesn't mean he was foolish. The artifact Staff of Magius, and the Orb of Dragonkind just to name a few. With an endless army of dragons and the likes of Wyrms like Cyan Bloodbane and Whisper, he could do much to weaken his worthy adversary long before he ever cast a single spell. People have also touted Elminster's long history of kicking ass and taking names. Nothing has been said of his ability to chew bubblegum, though. Raistlin actually wins this argument in the form of two things: the Bloodstone, and Fistandantilus. Raistlin absorbed Fistandantilus through the Bloodstone, which also possesses healing properties so that's useful, jumping his effective time on Krynn to close to the 3000 year mark as I recall. Again, too lazy to grab the books. Raistlin's abilities as the Master of Past and Present allow him to see the flow of time in the past , present and future and adjust accordingly. He references this fact in Dragons of a Summer Flame. So he has a bit of an upswing there. Also, like Chosen of Mystra, Master of the Tower of High Sorcery is also a template with some neat perks, so he's not deficient there either. Long story short, who wins? It depends really on where they are fighting. In Forgotten Realms? Elminster. In Dragonlance? Raistlin. Somewhere else? THAT is the fight of the century my friends. Nice post, and pretty much what I've settled for now, too - I don't think it's a question of either's power - either could obliterate the other after an exhausting contest of raw magical power. If Raist were to conflict Elminster on Abeir-Toril, the resources Elminster has at his disposal (including the favor of gods) would likely result in Raist's defeat, no-matter the nature of the conflict, (i.e., be it chance encounter or stretched out campaign ). Were the shoe on the other foot, however (i.e. Elmisnter challenging Raist on Krynn), Raistlin would undoubtedly win through. This has been a great conversation! Thank you all for your input! :smile: Is it okay to call it a draw? :wink: forums.beamdog.com/discussion/35017/raistlin-majere-vs-elminster

Fistandantilus won the physical fight with Raistlin. However Raistlin's personality overpowered Fistandatilus. How do i know this it tells u in the twins saga if u just pay attention. First off after there mage dual an one of them is absorbed its says first he is filled with lifetimes of knowledge not in those words of course but u get the point. Then it says all these other memory's flood in clearly Rastlin's then his says who am i. Now when he visits Astinus in the library of Palanthas he straight up tells him who won the mage dual. In the end he when Caramon comes to him in the portal showing him what his future truly holds he looks inside himself to find something an he does. That is the good still inside of him from Caramon Tanis an all the others Fistandantilus had lived so long become so evil what good was in him died century's ago. That attachment an love within Rastlin he keep buried through his ambition an lust for power as for why his personality came out on top. There are clear clues to the good an love still within him through out the books like how he treated Bupu. Fistandantilus as i say his heart was empty his soul was black as night Rasilins will and that spark of love an goodness took over as dominate personalty. So in the end he is both Raistlin an Fistandantilus.

You will have to be more specific. There are a TON of men with that name.

Can we talk of how ridiculous this name is...like it does not instill the fear of darkness in me lol.
@DLSaga3 жыл бұрын
Yea, I wonder if it was ever shortened by his close friends, if he ever had close friends. I would call him Fist till he blasted me with a lightening bolt.

Really, I thought it is one of the great wizards names to come out of D&D.

@@nonnayerbusiness7704 just doesnt roll off the tounge, ya know. For me, the name lessened the intensity of the character...no hate though, just critique.

Hate how you pronounce "Fistandantilus".
@DLSaga3 жыл бұрын
How do you pronounce it? I’ve never heard another way.
@hounddog34762 жыл бұрын
The "i" after the T made it sound like the a in dante'. To me at least. I play ultima online this kind of stuff comes up all the time. English is mostly latin derivatives as im sure we all know.

The gamer in me wants to know how much XP Fistandantilus (or Gnimsh) would have gotten for that explosion.
@DLSaga3 жыл бұрын
I think it would've been Gnimsh.
@MietoK3 жыл бұрын
Enough to get one level :) Back in the old times maximum amount you could get was 1 level and then enough to be 1 xp down from the second level. So after this massive explosion adventurer could search for a rat to kill and gain second level. But of course all this depends of DM.

Nice to hear someone pronounce it correctly. This was my favorite part of the legends volumes.

I still got someone saying they hated my pronunciation, but I don’t know how else to say it.
