The Zakk on Live and Loud was a beast. Young, drunk, physically in his prime giving 1000 percent. He was the coolest and craziest player by far at the 89' Moscow Music Peace Festival. Jake E Lee is an awesome player and even he has commented that Zakk was an unbelievable talent when he got the Ozzy gig. He always gives him tons of respect when others try to dismiss him around him. I think the current biker viking Zakk of the last 20 years with the sludgy guitar tone and repeated licks actually detracts from how good this guy was in his first 7 years when he first hit the scene with Ozzy in 88.'

I first heard this song around 35 years ago, in 1988. I purchased the cassette tape, then, much later i picked up the CD. still love this song, and the entire album, no "filler songs" every track is very good.

One of my favorite solos by Zakk. The pattern is great practice to get your picking down. I've always found playing fast melodic leads incorporated into a practice routine more beneficial than just the regular patterns that sound bland and then using that muscle memory to jump into something that actually has a musical structure to it. I like to jump right in and have any sort of practice already infused into things I want to play.

his attack on that pick action fucking hell, how aren't his strings snapping :) beast
@martindoll58842 жыл бұрын
He plays very thick strings like 60s and 70s
@MikaelLV2 жыл бұрын
He uses light gauge on the higher strings and thicker gauge on the lower strings. So it's not the strings that themselves that are too thick to snap, far from it. Doing fat vibrato and bends like that and still keeping the strings intact is very much technique.

Glad you gave Angus props. His showmanship is so iconic that I find that it can detract from just how brilliant of a player he is. Like Mal has said, I don't believe Angus has got his just dues as how brilliant of a Rock guitar player he truly is. His bends and vibrato are some of the best I've ever heard. I'm not sure non guitar players realize how hard that stuff is to master compared to sweeps and shredding. Angus has some of the best leads in the game and most of it has always been improvised and used in the first couple of takes. Listen to the lead in songs like Ride On. His technique and note choice was already phenomenal and he was only around 20 when that was recorded. The entire Young family had music in their DNA.

There is one aspect that is just natural that Zakk doesn't even know. The arp sequence with the lead note has a jump. 10 to 12 arp. 12 to 14 arp. Which he doesn't demo. That little move if you don't do it puts you out of sync and is a tough picking change. You have to dn, dn up, (at 128th speed)dn up into dn up dn dn up. REALLY tricky.
@grannywalter3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, you're right, and it's honestly much easier to just play it using alternate picking, because this technique of his is not too fast in this case. That's how I learned the solo way back in the day, I honestly thought it was alternate picking and didn't know about the dn dn up thing. But then I had to cheat with pull-offs for the pentatonic run lol even though I could tell it was all picked, but it was just way too fast for me, and probably still is. But I was satisfied with the result, so I moved on to the No More Tears solo, where at the very end of it he uses the same three note, two string pattern kinda thing, but waaaaay faster. I just couldn't figure it out and gave up. I only learned how it's done recently, the dn dn up thing. It's just so awkward to me. But in No More Tears there's no way around it because it's so fast.
