MG GM Quel (Review)

Here's the Master-Grade 1/100 scale GM Quel. This tough looking grunt suit makes for a pretty tough MG kit, despite it's old age. It needs some work but when you can get it for a cheap price it's quite worth a buy!

My mind while I am watching the video: -Old Quel: Premium Bandai? when I was young, we didn´t have Premium Bandai, Bandai made us and sell us all as equals along with the HG and RG. -New Quel: Not this again grampa. -Old Quel: And let me tell you something, We had simple articulations ,a lot of seam lines and not many details but we were solid as a rock. -New Quel: Grampa please, stop. -Old Quel: Also the "V" between my legs is real while yours is a stiker, A STICKER! By the way: Where is your female soldier? -New Quel: I hate Christmas reunions.

I agree with the people in the comments, this kit DOES look way better proportioned than the new one, with the exception of the seamlines and cheap looking plastic this kit looks awesome.

A reminder that old Quel was based off GM custom which used Alex 1.0 frame.

Should be noted that there is a plastic conversion kit for this to make the Hazel Reserve Unit that appeared as a Dengeki Hobby magazine pack-in bonus in 2002 if you're able to find it.

Bought a Zaku 1.0 by mistake once. It was still a fun build. It was an early kit for me so i butchered it but it had potential.

I actually like the older kit better. It seems better detailed and even though the articulation is about average, I think it is more worthwhile. By the way Zack, how's that Tiefsturmer coming? I am gonna keep asking until we get some kind of update or WIP vid. Sorry but gotta see it!

What is it with bandai wanting to put the shields on the BACK of the forearms? They look dorky as hell like that.

I'm like 80% sure the back section (or the entire hip section) can be swapped with the GM type C so you would be able to use the included weapon rack of the GM type c

I was lucky to have waited for the new quel..it wont do justice with the new hazels comparing this old unit..it does go well with the gm custom, rx78 kai, gm space n earth type c as the shared the design concept at that time. Its just kinda takes a toll on you waiting for 2.0 kits nearly 20 plus years as i have almost 1000 bandai kits in box not built..kinda a sucker in collecting. But bandai was spot on for the powered gm as it shared the same design with the old type c n custom. Putting those side by side would do juctice. Its just kinda sucks with most of the new kits are under pbandai..

The newer one is, well, newer, but you can really tell it's a different kit remixed just enough to mimic a Quel. The limbs (legs especially) are super chunky and... well, Hazel-ish. The heads on both kits seem similar in size, though(??? Yay/nay?), which would obviously only exaggerate the beefier limbs on the new kit. That massive height difference, too... yikes. I'd be interested in seeing height measurements for both kits, see which one is more "in scale." Zack? Any chance that'd be possible? I love these mid- to late-00s MG kits. Just easy enough to build that you aren't intimidated by them, but also just enough lack of hand-holding that you still want/need to learn common modeling techniques like seam line removal, sanding (that plastic sheen, oof), etc.

as a gun nerd it always hurts my head when people call magazines clips. A clip would be something like the M1 Garand used where the ammo is still exposed and a magazine is an all encompassing piece that fully encloses the ammo. sorry, just those little things that makes me cringe.
