Hakainde won the election in a landslide, winning 58% of the votes against 37% for Lungu. Turnout was about 71%, even higher then previously expected. Of the remaining roughly 5% of the vote, 2,5% gone to smaller parties, and roughly 2,5% of votes were invalid. Lungu has conceded. There is one constituency left to count but that is obviously not going to change this result.

@@lu881 no, just, no. Singapore only works because it cannot afford to be a tyrannical regime and completely exploit its citizens, due to its very small population, small size, and almost no natural resources. So the government of Singapore had to invest in things which boost productivity of its citizens, and a lot of seemingly-democratic practices. However corruption is rampant in Singapore, as the government doesn't care about its citizens, has despotic election rules, and gerrymanders everything. Singapore is a government that probably won't fall, as unlike others it has to make sure its people are relatively happy, to get even a little bit of money, and power.

Norway, like many other European countries, have donated money to Zambia to aid development and provide food and education for poor communities. But it was later shown that the donation did not go into the intended causes, but rather in the pockets of corrupt Zambian politicians. This lead Norway to no longer donate financial aid to Zambia, and also withdrew their embassy from Lusaka. The Norwegian embassy in Zambia was relocated Lilongwe in neighbouring Malawi. I don't remember exactly when it happened, but I can assume it was under Lungu's government.

Lungu's regime is a cancer. The second president during the MMD regime, Mwanawasa, was a great, visionary leader who fought corruption with all he had. Unfortunately, he passed away halfway into his second term in 2008. Everything went downhill from there. Now three presidents later, I hope we have chosen the right man for the job. The only good thing we have now is our low crime rate. Everything else is shit.

Hakainde Hichilema (HH)has won the election with a 20% margin to Edgar Lungu. HH got 59.3% whilst Lungu got 38.8% of the vote. He has now been sworn in after the constitutionally mandated seven days. Lungu ironically initially questioned the fairness of the election but conceded defeat on the 16th of August and handed power peacefully. This makes it the 3rd peaceful democratic transition in Zambia from one party & president to the other.

@@jadeddigger9291 (raised eyebrow) The Rum Rebellion in Australia happened nearly a century before the place became a unified dominion, nevermind a sovereign nation. I have no clue what other events you are describing as military coups but I suspect that they predate Australia having full sovereignty too. Your grasp of Canada's history seems very peculiar, and I say that as a member of the country's French speaking minority. Yes, we definitely inherited a mess in ethnic relations from the British colonial period. Aside from the 1837-38 rebellions (which are generally celebrated in Canada today even if they were suppressed at the time), the most noteworthy instance of martial law would be the October Crisis. That was a heavy handed response to a terrorist group and while it did produce resentment, there was originally public support for the move. It was also a short time that happened half a century ago. The national unity crises and Quebec secession referendums that followed were constitutional crises, yes, but entirely peaceful ones. While no political system is perfect, it's patently absurd to suggest Australia and Canada don't have functional representative democracy. Hell, Canada's system has peacefully handled two secession attempts in a democratic fashion. These two countries tend to consistently get rated among the healthiest democracies in the world (not saying that the politicians aren't *rseholes - most are - just that the systems are functional). Quebec's historical issues with economic inequality were generally redressed in the late 20th century and the national unity/secession issue has largely been driven by differing political and cultural aspirations. That said, it has been a peaceful debate using the existing political system (aside from the aberration of the October Crisis a half century ago). It isn't driven by oppressive conditions, martial law or a broken democracy but by a different visions of the federation, an ethno-linguistic group debating how much autonomy it needs to feel culturally secure and different views of history, culture and identity.

Great video. 2 things though 1. It's Sata pronounced (Sah-tah) not Santa 2. Bally won the election I cannot wait to watch the follow up video to this one.

yes, it is inauguration day today the 25th August 2021 Am very happy about that .........but am a little bit behind. I still have questions on how the kwacha has appreciated within 14 days despite the huge debt and the negative impact of COVID 19 . I feel there is a lot to be done for the elected president to achieve his promise. such as cheap fertilizer, Brining down the prices for all essential comomodites, families having 3 meals per day, and employment creation. will he be in a position to uproot corruption completlely, and stabilize the economy without depending much on foreign aid? If he will build Zambia "s economy.
