A pertinent question would be " did the Chinese take anything without paying for it. There were a number of comments about the Chinese businessman being there for his own interest. He is a businessman and the issue to address are (1) did he pay a fair price / wage (2) did he control the to the society there? Wherever westerners landed in Africa in the last two centuries they brought along their armies to grab land and resources and even enslaved. Chinese were there for business. If the local population is against business then they should just inform the Chinese. I am sure they will move on - you can't do business where you aren't welcome.
@sofascialistadankulamegado17813 жыл бұрын
@@yawos9024 Lol! The problem is capitalism. And you talk of copper prices falling as if theres some single body called "capitalism" that suddenly decided to bring the price down for no apparent reason but evil. China accounts for nearly half of the worlds copper demand and its used for domestic purposes. Copper prices have been exceptionally high because of Chinese demand. Once the supply of copper is increased by say, a Zambian Chinese copper export, then prices will be declining as demand for copper outside of Zambia and other exploited African nations decreases. China is after self sufficiency now. So you should be happy for capitalist copper to be falling in price. By the way, you do realise that China is practising PURE capitalism, right? China is a mixed economic system. Communism that is using capitalism as a tool to securing prosperity. Its gravely unsustainable and hopefully we both will be dead of old age before the world turns into complete Armageddon when 1.4 billion hungry Chinese mouths, coupled with the rest of the population, battle to survive in an almost extinct natural world.

Second, to use Chinese investment high speed develop the economy. China is teaching how to fish, not directly give you the fish. Now africa has the source to make Chinese companies coming. If the source is gone, Chinese companies will leave. So Africa must catch the current time, to learn Chinese companies technologies. Chinese culture is that we never like to give people things(this is religion culture, not Atheist country culture), we prefer to teach people things and make them have themselves products to trade with us. The problem with the Chinese is that they’re ham fisted with their approach. They have only recently started to venture out of their country, and are not yet skilled in the ways of sweet talking other people and using diplomacy effectively. They want to manage Africans the same way they do their own people. They live in gated communities, and only communicate with the locals while barking orders. Chinese presence is a net positive, IMO. @Solve Everything I guess it is based on the volume? It is a complicated situation, but I guess sometimes, chinese don't help its own case with a communication model that isn't customized to the local situation. For example, chinese companies will often build worker dormitories to house their staff. There are benefits for the companies - in terms of costs and control, and for their staff in terms of allowing their staff adapt easily into a new environment. But to the locals, what they often see is chinese companies with housing that have a huge wall around it. It's like chinese bring along its great wall everywhere they go! The locals will start to imagine what mischief these chinese foreigners are plotting behind their walls. The locals' rental market also does not benefit from the chinese foreigners. Chinese loves buying properties, and we drive up property prices wherever we go! It is good for the rich local landowners, but most of the poor will see chinese oppressing them until they cannot own properties in the own cities. So chinese create a lot of unhappiness among the locals in these ways. And lack of communication with the local community, creates a lack of understanding and emmity between the locals and the chinese. But I think with time, these issues are just speed bumps that can be resolved eventually.

70 Chinese people are buried in Zambia. They died building the railway in Zambia at a time when China itself was a poor country. They did not colonize Zambia nor did China colonize any country in Africa. What is the problem with France 24? There is still a French imposed currency in used in Africa. Do they see that at risk now that Africa has a non-colonial choice? When you see a major hospital, a bridge, an airport, a rail road, there is a good chance that it is built by China. Here is what colonialist have done. When there is oil, there are minerals, they are interested with strings attached. Some kind of rule of law is imposed with force. Rip off the land and leave Africans destitute for decades. A good example is Haiti. After 50 years in Haiti. What has Americans and Canadian done for Haiti? Still destitute after 50 years. The former President of Philipines said it best. America used Philipines as the door mat, living off the fat of the land. That is the kind of Western Influence we have seen for 50+ years.

Looting during the France colonization is very pale in comparison to what the Chinese are doing now to the natural resources. The identity is also threatened as more developments come, more poor Africans will be dispersed away, lost their lands in favor of foreigners from many countries. Africa will not have the control. Chinese people left China as the European and Western manufacturing industries left them. It's a different type of colonization. It's modern-day slavery using machinery. Their presence is legitimized by our past and current investment laws. Therefore, they are fully welcome for they have met the set investment conditionalities. The British have had entrenched influence here from the inception of colonial rule. No foreign power ever raised eyebrows. What curiosities have occurred to justify the implied negativity about China's presence in Zambia. Let us banish hypocricy to less practiced countries, if there are any. Compliant Investors are our desire for as long as their activities are appropriately linked to our consciously crafted national development path. When our young Zambians, in the exercise of their freedom of expression, make correspondingly unrealistic comments, some of us select to be mute realizing the commonality of the existence of abject destitution of historical information among them. Surprisingly, they were soundly defeated by local children, who were around fifteen or sixteen years old, not adults. The company's "Chinese soccer elites" were outplayed. Eventually, they decided to build a soccer field for the local children, which was quite easy for an architectural company, and distributed soccer balls and jerseys. As an African, I am very sad to see how brutal we have been on China. Instead of learning from these people, our words are full of hatred everytime we speak. Why? I see no wrongdoing by the Chinese in this video. But I have seen a certain cadre [6:55] turned senior government official speak very ill of the Chinese.

There's one thing my mother told me about my Chinese heritage that I think rings true, and that's 'no matter where we go, we will always cultivate the soil'. We have a strong appreciation for the land and food, so seeing Chinese people farming even in Zambia gives me a sense of unity with my ancestry. Proud to be Chinese, but foremost an American.

Many people say we Africans like to be spoon fed but who doesn't want a easy life? I actually strongly believe that many Africans are hardworking and are pushing the African economy as fast as possible. We have many many problems here in Africa but despite all that we still survive and make progress. We just lack the modern technology and knowledge. Many of us Africans are just ignorant and not lazy. We are willing to learn and to work but we have a few learning facilities and technology. But despite all that we are always working towards the greater good for all of Africa . I promise everyone reading this Africa will be changed and it will be one of the most greatest continents.
