“My daughter Zandra Wade had a bright future ahead of her. A world champion in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and varsity and club volleyball player. We were excited for her future and had no idea the storm that was approaching us. Two days before Christmas 2018, I heard the words no parent should ever have to hear, your daughter has cancer. I will never forget her screaming “No! Mom No!”. To make matters worse they diagnosed her with the wrong form of cancer. I had an uneasy feeling, things just weren't right on top of the fact they sent her home knowing her spleen was enlarged. So I took her to the top children's hospital in our hometown. They admitted her right away to the oncology floor. 24hrs later she woke up throwing up blood. They immediately transferred her to the ICU were she spent 38 days not allowed to eat of drink anything due to internal bleeding that the tumors were causing. On Jan 2nd, 2019 Zandra was diagnosed with stage 4 Desmoplastic small round cell tumor also known as DSRCT. DSRCT is extremely rare and is considered terminal by most oncologist with a 5yr survival rate of only 15%. The average survival rate is only 12 to 18 months. The treatment plan was chemo, radiation then bone marrow transplant. The first chemo protocol failed her after 3 rounds. The 2nd chemo failed her after 11 rounds. In between all of this, she had to have her spleen removed along with stents in her kidneys. Her tumors were inoperable because it had spread and was completely wrapped around her pancreas. She had tumors on her abdomen that spread to her spleen, pelvis, spine, and kidneys. The cancer also spread to her bones and bone marrow. Dr. Slokin at Sloan Kettering is the only DSRCT specialist in the world. She was consulting her doctors here along the way and had just started a clinical trial. Since there was nothing more that her doctors could do for her here we moved to NYC so she could enter the clinical trial. The trial also failed so we moved back home. This was all during the massive covid outbreak in NYC. We were home for only two weeks when her liver started to fail due to tumor burden. She had to have another surgery to put a stent in her liver. There was no slowing the progression of this horrific monster. Zandra was then sent home on hospice and gained her wings on May 22, 2020 fifteen days before her 17th birthday. Zandra had a light that shined on everyone who knew her. We want to continue shining her light by helping others the way she would want us to. We are in the process of starting two nonprofits organization in her name. I have made it my life's mission to spread awareness and help raise money for more research. And so it is late in the evening and this video popped up. And in my own sadness, I smiled throughout this entire memorial because this beautiful young girl smiled in almost every picture, love shines in her eyes and my heart feels calm and peaceful now. What a darling, sweet girl, precious gift from God and tonight she was a gift to me, a stranger, so I can only imagine what a gift she was to all those who loved and knew her. Thank you for posting this so much. Sorry you could not have her here longer, but what a blessing she is, what a beautiful memory she left.

Not quite sure why this video was in my cue list.......but I watched it. What an amazing girl, Zandra seemed to be. Lessons I'm sure have been learned by the way she lived her life. What I found most enlightening was how you worded your synopsis about Zandra's journey. At 64, I've lost people that I loved, as well. I was given a plaque long ago with this one it........ I hope it helps you all.......... "Grief is the last act of love we have to give, to those we loved. Where there is deep grief, there is great love". I am so sorry ,she had a love of life, cancer is so unfair. I am an adult survivor, but worked in a Peds PACU and sadly cared for many young cancer patients. I pray for better treatments in the future. More research dollar needed

Such a beautiful girl through and through from all I could tell in this video and a couple she had put out herself. I am really sorry to all who knew her for your loss. She has no doubt left a big hole, especially for her family of course. As a note, After the devastating loss of my brother Mark on Christmas Eve 2017 my family and I have experienced some very interesting and almost shocking things that we can’t explain other then to say it must be my brother. We were a family that not only never experienced anything like any one of the strange things that have happened, but we weren’t the strongest believers you would ever come across even though we were Christians. I say this to tell you that I truly, truly believe your beautiful girl is in heaven with my brother and all our lost loved ones who were good and decent people while they were here on earth. Just like my brother, Zandra’s life was cut far too short but this is the cold hard reality of the earth we live on while God is away and is why bad things happen to good people, why prayers aren’t answered, and all the rest, because until Christ returns, this world is run by the evil and if we think about that then a lot of things start to add up. Since we sadly can’t do anything about it we must make best of the lives we were handed and do our best to live good fulfilling lives. Help others in need, wether it’s a neighbor, a friend, someone on the other side of the world, or the innocent animals we share this planet with. For those of us living with the pain of losing a loved one, on top of the regular stresses of life, we must take comfort in knowing without a doubt that life is actually very short and we will be with all of our loved ones one day, so keep as strong as you can so you can live a good life now to be rewarded later. Just my opinion. Obviously others will disagree, but I hope it helps someone somehow. 🤙🏻

I'm sorry for your loss. She was a beautiful young lady. I lost my cousin to cancer in 1992 on my girlfriend's birthday so it made it for me a much greater loss because not to long afterwards my girlfriend just up and left me without even saying goodbye. The loss of both of them still hurts but my cousin hurts the worse she was a couple of weeks away from getting the bone marrow surgery that she needed she had a stroke and was to weak to get it done

I cannot remember in my 56 yrs of life when I've cried so hard, I didn't know this girl nor ever seen or heard of her. Although my life has been very hard at least I've had one. My sadness for this family is beyond compare.this girl has just changed my life because I will never take another minute I've had and will have for granted especially for the ones I wasted. She is the most beautiful young person I've ever seen.what a beautiful family. As a father I see the love in this man's eyes and with all my heart I send to you all the love and prayers I have.
