On the topic of Euphoria, one statistic I just learned that was so mind blowing was that teen pregnancy decreased dramatically when the show Teen Mom came out in MTV. This is because for the first time, teens were watching the reality of what would happen to those teens that got pregnant and how shitty life was. I think the show Euphoria is going to have a similar effect because it shows the fucked up effects of various addictions whether that is sex, drugs, attention, etc. Heath said “that’s why these kids are so bad” but honestly idk I hope this show actually has the opposite effect on teens.

just wanna add my two cents in here from the last podcast, there is a condition called idiopathic intracranial hypertension (IIH for short) and the symptoms are literally the exact same as what you were explaining, i struggled for so long with them, constant horrific headaches, pressure in my head and behind my eyes like they were going to pop, black outs in my vision and dizzy spells, it took 4 days in hospital, a lumbar puncture, numerous MRIs and CT scans, blood test for them to figure out what it was and they originally thought it was a brain tumour, i still struggle every single day and there isn’t a cure but it may be worth looking into especially if you are due to see a neurologist, it’s very rare and something i didn’t even know existed but thought i’d pitch in! hope you’re feeling better and love the podcasts ❤️

Fun fact I just learned in school recently: Doctors have been using tissue from pig (porcine) and cow (bovine) hearts to transplant into humans since the 70's. They take tissues from the heart (not the actual valves) and reconstruct them to function as a valve for a human heart. A heart valve transplant can be mechanical, too, made with certain types of metal. There are pro's and con's to both. A mechanical heart valve will last a lifetime, but are more prone to clotting meaning the recipient will likely have to be on blood thinners for the rest of their life making them more susceptible to heavy bleeding elsewhere. Biological valves (pig & cow) aren't as likely to cause clotting, but they are usually only good for 10-20 years. Depending on when the transplant is done, the patient may require another surgery to replace a biological valve. My guess is that since the tissue from the hearts of these animals has proven to be successful in valve transplants in humans, scientists/doctors must have figured there are other components of the heart that are transplantable into humans. With a little genetic modification they can produce a fully viable porcine heart for transplant into a human. I read a little about this new transplant, and the trial began with the pig heart being transplanted into non-human primates (baboons), but these animals produce antibodies that attack the proteins within the organs of pigs. Humans do not have these antibodies. Thus, making the heart transplant more successful. Surgeons have also recently transplanted pig kidneys into a human! The future of medicine, baby!!

You guys talking about Euphoria was really interesting. I think that the show runners do want it to be controversial but I remember the creator talking about how it’s supposed to start a conversation about how American television is prudish with showing male anatomy more often than not unless violent situations(yes the show has that too) while they traditionally are more comfortable with showing female anatomy. I think most people are desensitized or it doesn’t bother them as much to seeing a woman not clothed vs a man. There is an obvious gender imbalance here, one that encourages us to objectify women more than men. I think that’s the main reason they have so much full frontal. Balancing out the unbalanced.
@sadghoul133 жыл бұрын
Also I don’t think they romanticize any thing that they do. It’s very good at showing the awful tough parts with addiction and the experiences that they go through. I think what people forget is that it’s a show about teens not necessarily for teens.

The Sonic guys made a brief appearance in Stranger Than Fiction. It's been years since I've seen the film (seems like something right up Matt's alley), but when Will Farrell is waiting at the crosswalk on his way to work, those guys are in the crowd of people waiting as well.

zane definitely needs to get his license. it’s not about what’s right or what’s wrong at this point. it’s about being safe

He doesn't need to do anything :) don't know why Americans with 0 training or discipline with guns think they are safer with them.

Matt is that one friend that you can’t joke around because he’s a know it all lol 😂

I agree. He’s getting hard to listen to, constantly trying to make the others feel stupid or prove them wrong.

i feel like euphoria doesn’t romanticize drugs and stuff but brings attention to these important topics that young adults go through and shed light especially that the director/creator had an addiction in the past, it’s very raw and honest
@Sharni_1003 жыл бұрын
It doesn’t romanticize drugs at all! It literally shows a girl stuck in time. Throwing her life away for drugs… even with “the girl” and “the friends” she’s always wanted. And she still can’t stop. It’s called addiction :( I totally agree

YES! this season especially is definitely tougher all around i think they maybe don’t realize what it’s like nowadays but it’s really real and raw.
