I joined Slave as lead singer in 1982 ....When I landed in Dayton Ohio i walked off the plane and Roger was there! Slave, was NOWHERE in sight man. Why and how he happened to be there I will never know but I went up to him and of course i was just flummoxed. I introduced myself to him and he gave me a hug and wished me luck. Later we had a best band contest against Roger and Zapp.....They won! It was in Columbus Ohio. Losing Roger was like losing Prince and i will always be grateful for his guidance and his talents. He would always say to me"When you gon stop drinking that wine/Alcohol? Which really is the reason that my career was a failure. Well now i have over 15 years with no relapse through Prayer...... We lost him way to soon and May he be Eternal!!

@@waynefoote3781 Thank you. Meeting him was truly an honor for me. I had listened to his music since I was a kid so even shaking his hand was awesome. I was sitting at my desk in the studio office one day, watching the television in there. All of the sudden I saw on the news that he had been killed. Everyone in the studio just lost it because he was literally just there two weeks prior to that tragic event. Bro, I’m not even related to him but I was hurt. I was in the military and serving in Germany from 87-90. My brother in law took us to an NCO club near Schwäbisch Gmünd to see Roger play for the troops. I was already a big fan and had several of his recordings. It was a small venue but Roger and his band Jammed for several hours in this small club on post. My wife and I were drinking at a table close to the stage and he was playing "Do Wa Ditty "Blow that Thing". I was singing along and having a damn good time when Roger walked across the top of the table, stuck the Mic in my face and said "sing it white boy"........then handed me the mic. He started wailing on that talk box and I sang a few more lines. It was the best time I had ever had. We had some drinks with the band afterwards and they hung out with all the military folks there for a long time. I really admired all of them and have loved all their music for all these years. I felt really bad when I heard that he had been killed. I'll never forget that night of dancing with my wife singing and drinking with Roger and the band and watching them treat us troops to a damn good time! God bless you Mr. Troutman....RIP!

Talented Geniuses all of them both band sky high performances atomic. These guys were the best performers and when they performed they went to work they were fun magical superstars. ehh kinda. Auto-tune and using a vocoder are really two different things tho. Automatically tuning your voice does kinda give it a robotic sound if you set it to fast correction. A vocoder is a keyboard that uses speech input to change the sound and usually the player will play chords giving it a harmonized sound. T Pain just overdubbed his tracks with his own voice to harmonize. I guess they achieve close to the same thing but in very different ways

Larry was a jealous hearted, envious person who decided that if he couldn't be the one making money off Roger then no one else was going to either. Only reason he committed suicide was due to his cowardly fear of going to prison. He reminds me of my late older brother, he was jealous hearted too. He once stood guard outside my house while his friends came in and robbed me.

I can say I have seen James Brown (1st show age 8), Zapp, Funkadelic, George Clinton and all his rollouts, Bootsy and his Rubber Band, Slave, Confunction, Slade, Gap Band, Rick James, Prince NPG/Revolution, etc, so many tight, funk-driven bands. I am glad to have experienced such a time in music. Time when real musicians played real instruments. 🎸 👏🏽
