I used to play the hyper-realistic combat flight sims back in the day, and I always looked down my nose at Ace Combat because of that. Until that one day I finally bought a copy of AC5. The magic of Ace Combat is the immersion, the way the over-the-top anime storylines and dialogue draw you in, giving you a feeling of power and patriotism... that's what makes the greatest Ace Combats... 4, 5, Zero, X, and 6... truly great. And the soundtracks... mostly Kobayashi's tracks... help that along immensely.

@@XH1927 To this day, Ace Combat 4 is my favorite because of that immersion. The flight model is actually much closer to a real plane's than the rest of the Ace Combat series, with reduced turn and climb rates and much, MUCH higher roll rates, but is still forgiving enough to let you get away with anime bullshit when you have to. The music just takes it to another level. I'll never forget the first time I played the Shattered Skies mission and Comona hit, no lead-up, no flying to enemy concentrations, just straight into the nastiest furball Ace Combat has ever seen. Only Mayhem in Ace Combat Zero comes close to that feeling.

If brinkmanship had a theme, this could be it. For some reason it makes me think of the cuban missile crisis or big fleets pulling a broadside, gun turrets turning and raising and nervous officers holding keys to missile launch switches...made for a great Ace Combat harbor battle too

Sometimes, half a game would be how good its soundtrack is, I swear this soundtrack is the best. Probably my favorite out of any game. Ace Combat 5 is the only game I feel has a lot of reaplayability from just the campaign.

@@Zaron_Gaming I've never actually played Ace Combat 0. I've only ever played 4 and 5, and 5 was the only one I beat. I wasn't in charge of getting the games back then, my dad did, and I don't know why or even where he got the games he did. I was only in like middle or elementary back then.

@@arcticgalegamer8139 oh my dude you have to play it. It is a truly fantastic story and it copies the same controls we know so well from 4 and 5 while making a truly deep fleshed out game. You can easily get it if you ever have the urge and resources. all of them are worth playing minus 3 which is just not to be spoken of by me. They really screwed the pooch with that. It's worth the investment and the replay is wild

the two missions prior this was easy enough for 9 year old me to beat but this mission was when I had to give ac5 up since the planes just seemed never ending and I was often lost inland chasing them, not to mention letting the fleet get hit (even though it actually doesn't matter). fast forward to now, I beat this mission after a LOT of tries, optimizing routes, timings, and ordnances to minimize visible hits on kestrel as much as possible. The high standard enhances immersion, both of war and of a hero-level pilot. Honestly my favorite mission. I only wish they implemented failure condition when kestrel takes too much damage, and kestrel can take less damage on higher difficulties (instead of only the danger of you being one shot). The music also captures the tension of a surprise naval port attack with those horn crescendos. Brilliant.

Perfect for ground combat, too. A platoon of Osean Marines are being dropped ff via CH-47 to defend ships still at berth from being boarded and their armaments used against you. At :25, the ramp drops as the Marines rush into action. Throw in some backup from Sea Goblin, too.
