This is so horrifying, and is exactly why friends need to be 100% sure their friend has a safe way home and are on their way before they leave. I got left at a bar once, absolutely trashed, and went to walk back to our hostel. A couple of guys told me it wouldn’t be safe to walk and offered to drive me. I (stupidly) left with them, and out of sheer luck, they were good people and made sure I made it safely back. It’s so easy to end up in that situation, but it shouldn’t be something that friends let happen, ever.

Back then when this happened to Samantha, Uber drivers did not have to provide information about their car and stuff like that to the people requesting a ride. So that’s what made it so easy for this monster!!

My main concern, is what was the reason she got separated from her friends.? One time I went out with my friends and they left me at the bar all by myself. I was very intoxicated and I ended up going home with a complete stranger. Something did happen to me, but luckily he didn’t kill me. My friends later apologized to me and I forgave them. This is the reason why I mentioned her friends, because is so important in my point of view, not to get separated from your friends.

I'm sorry for what happened to you. i wouldn't have forgiven them, if i were in your shoes. You're stronger than i am, and in my opinion your friends don't deserve you in their lives. Stay strong, and i'm happy that you're alive.

She got into that car real fast like hardly even looked at it. Uber has the picture and license plate of the car for a reason. This is so insane like someone accidentally gets into your car and instead of being like um who are you ,you just pretend to go along with being their Uber then just stab the person to death for no reason ?! What the actual hell. This is one of the most unnecessary murders ever. This is so sad.

I was a freshman at UofSC and worked in 5pts when this happened and it rocked us. So many people victim blamed and trashed girls who just want to have fun. SC passed laws in the same year requiring ride share drivers to display company and license # in windshield at all times while driving. It was (and still is) a terrifying time.

Your sarcasm towards some of these vile predators makes me laugh and your empathy towards the victims and their families warms my heart. i was living in Aiken, South Carolina and often was in the Five Points area of Columbia, when and where this murder took place. i Remember when Samantha Josephson went missing, and i Remember her dad pleading for answers on the local news. Listening to your report on this case, it filled in so many questions and unknowns. It is remarkable and heart touching how much positive change has occurred in the name of “Sammy”. Her loved ones are so strong, and the love is so big, stretching out to everyone everywhere, with safety laws enacted, grants for safety awareness created, and scholarships ta’boot. Seeing the empty chair at Graduation is absolutely tragic and commands tears of sadness for the loss of this beautiful soul. Sammy’s presence is deeply missed, yet her spirit lives on forever, in memory, action, and conscientious gifts of safety education to the whole world.

I know you made this video 2 years ago, so I don't know if you'll see this or not, but! My husband did this back in the 80's. He was going to be riding to the coast guard base with a guy who just got stationed there. The best way to learn your way around in a new place is to actually do the driving. So my husband offered to show him how to get everywhere on base that the guy would need to get to, but new guy had to drive. So at 6am the next day a pickup pulled up in front of our house, Steven said"oh, that must be him. He's here on time! " so Steven walked out and hopped into the truck. Steven looked up to say good morning, and there was someone starting at him that Steven had never met before! This wasn't Steven's friend.... it was the paper boy's dad!!! Needless to say, they were both surprised, and his friend was late! Lol!!! Great fully all was well!

Zara, it sounds like your Uber driver planned to rip you off. One of their tactics has been to drive-off with your stuff. The rideshare company may attempt to get it back, but all the driver has to do is lie. I experienced this firsthand, and so did a friend of mine. I've had so many negative experiences with Uber and Lyft, I'm going to have to have counseling on it. Using rideshares, in reality, is pretty risky. I now plan on having my own car again. My recent experience with an Uber driver was too off the wall. My friend and I had done nothing weird to him. I asked him to back-up the car, since he'd stopped at the wrong apartment building. Instead, he moved the car further from our home and stopped. When we opened the doors to get out, he moved the car forward again, thus stopping our exiting. He repeated this scenario several times! Finally, we jumped-out while the car was moving! I complained to Uber, and my account was frozen. Obviously, the driver lied about us to avoid losing his job; and Uber believed him. While this incident was taking place, what came to my mind was an interview I'd seen with Winston Mosley who murdered Kitty Genovese (a very well-known murder case you might want to vlog about) and how similar this driver seemed to him, bright and organized and very capable of hurting and doing harm without seeming so.🌹🌹🌹

I don't get in the uber/taxi unless the license plate/taxi number matches up with what i was shown in the app, or told by the operator. Well, we don't use taxis for quite some time now because uber has the advantage of charging a fixed amount, no matter the route the driver takes. The taxi charges by the distance, and more distance=more money for the driver/company.
@christenm32002 жыл бұрын
I've never used Uber, but I thought there was a profile of sorts on the app that describes the make and model of the car etc? Also, a tip if the app gives the driver's name- when you come up to the car, make up a name and ask. If they don't correct you, it's obviously not your car. This is terrifying and so, so sad.

Once I was out shopping with my mom. We went back out to where I was parked and I unlocked my minivan with my key fob from several feet away. I opened the driver’s side door and hopped in. I looked around and was like *wait a second… this doesn’t look right* and then I hear something in one of the back seats. It’s a kid, about 10-12 years old, with headphones on, playing a handheld video game. We just stared at each other for a second… shocked. I realized I had somehow jumped in someone else’s minivan that was the same color and make as mine, which was parked two cars further away. I made that poor kid shit his pants, I think. I apologized PROFUSELY. I still feel bad about it to this day. Scared us both. Also, either my fob unlocked that minivan, or they left that poor kiddo in there with the doors unlocked. 😬😬😱😱 If my kids come with me shopping, they come WITH ME SHOPPING. I don’t ever leave them in the car on their own. Something WAY WORSE could’ve happened to that kid. I think this happens more frequently than we realize.

Ok so my thoughts on this. This is so sad. Could have been any of us. And to you.. LA is wild. I'm from there so I'm bias but I'm telling you is gotten worse. Haven't lived there in 7yrs and I don't miss anything anymore cause everytime I visit its worse. Especially since they started building the stadium (though it's technically in Inglewood) and everyone had to move cause their rent went up $1000. The gentrification, it really sucks because everywhere I grew up spending time at and staples in my childhood.. it doesn't look the same. Or it looks even worse because now everybody lives there and it's just terrible. It's just so terrible. Streets were being improved but the traffic was bad cause they were blocked off.. This was 2yrs ago maybe 3.. But ALWAYS rent a car when visiting. Always! I do and I'm from there! I'm not relying on family/friends or public transportation of any kind. But anyway back to this case. 1. The child locks are activated prior to getting into the vehicle, so whenever you're getting into an Uber or a Lyft or ride share of any kind, you always want to double check the door and make sure your child locks are not activated. Unlock them yourself if they are before you get in, (or don't get in) but you cannot do that from the driver side. As far as I know. Maybe in fancier cars but check your door cause most times the lock is connected to the door. It's an actual button on the door that you press or click up/down like a switch. Many times friends/family get in my back seat and I have my child lock on because I have a 3 year old and yeah, so... That's just one of the things. 2. Also, those apps literally give you a picture and description of what the car looks like and the license plate number, what the driver looks like and everything. Like you said.. So PLEASE pay attention to that and video record that info if you can from your phone. It'll upload to Google almost immediately incase anything happens.

Thanks for your input on what content I should create, although I don't agree with you on any of it. There are plenty of other true crime channels that don't put on makeup, so I hope you find them and enjoy 👍

I found your channel about a week ago and have been binge watching your channel! 💗 adore you! I am in the US and it's interesting to hear your perspective from Australia and I have learned a little bit about Australian law which is super cool!
