Man, they had that chemistry brother.... /s Ant did most of the heavy lifting and was able to have chemistry with almost anyone. By this time in their career, interacting on the air was still second nature, especially when they had something to focus on. However, notice how their "chemistry" halts the second Ant talks about how Opie pronounces fugitive. He forgot who he was talking to and stomped right on a Greggshell. Jimmy had to swoop in and save him.

While I appreciate Ant & Jim's attempts to make "jokes", I think it's much more interesting to listen to Opie break down the industry as a whole. Pointing out the flaws and problems of corporate broadcast radio is infinitely more entertaining than humor.

I don't know why Opie gets the hate he does. He even says "I'm Gregg Hughes, the actor who plays Opie", he can't make it more obvious to the audience that his entire radio personality is a "bit" to drive the audience crazy. He obviously knows that it would be ludicrous for someone who is limited to the extent they can only be mean and cruel to people, to sulk and pout if anyone makes fun of him even slightly. Like Steve Jobs supposedly said when asked what he does, Opie "plays the orchestra". He knows it will be enraging for someone to be needlessly mean and expect people to take often brutal criticism with good grace and humour while he is incapable of taking the mildest critique without sulking and putting everyone on "greggshells" He also knows that it's enraging when someone stupid thinks they are more intelligent than everyone else like the Dunning-Kruger effect or when a person can't read both the written word or social cues. The guy is not only a radio genius, but he might be the most compelling performance artist of all time. He never breaks character even though he knows people hate him. That must weigh on even the most thick-skinned person, which Opie is most definitely. Imagine knowing virtually the whole of your audience despises you because you single-handedley manage to almost ruin a brilliant show just with your meer presence, yet still have enough courage to plough on with "the bit" and for your entire public life play a deluded buffoon who has a complete lack of self-awareness, any sense of humor, intelligence or ability to be entertaining beyond just trying to cause conflict, yet never let the mask slip. Sure, Anthony, Jimmy and the comedian guests they have on are very funny, but the only true artist on the show is the Opester. If there was any justice in the world when death comes calling for Opie, God will let him live another year for everytime he uttered the words "hold on, hold on". The man deserves to outlive the sun such is his dedication to his craft. I just pray that God gives me a dollar for everytime Opie said "hold on" for it would give me the means to make sure no man, woman, child or beast ever went hungry and they could all have their feet covered in solid gold shoes. Opie, if you read this brother man, please don't let the mask slip. The curse of true genius means you won't be recognized in your own lifetime, but you will live on in the hearts and minds of generations to come. Life extension technology will be called "holdons" in memory of you. God, if you are reading this, please send me a dollar for everytime Opie said "hold on" and send the money in the next few months for I really do need the cash
