it's the right not the left that was an issue. You are supposed to carry you're katana on the left. Also, this technique is not the reason. It's because clinging sheaths meant you wanted to fight. If two samurai carried on the right that would happen. They made it law to stop that issue.

@peterwang56603 жыл бұрын
Wdym by edge alignment?
@139-b7j3 жыл бұрын
@@peterwang5660 The direction you are applying the force should be same as the direction of the edge. The worst edge alignment would be hitting with the flat of the sword, in this case the direction is perpendicular. This is very hard to do without proper control and with such complicated swinging of the sword. Sword attacks should be simple and straight without weird spinning moves, the more complicated spin you add, the harder it becomes to control edge alignment.
@ReeferVikingNW3 жыл бұрын
@@139-b7j a good example of what he's explaining, I assume, is Kendo and it's forward direct movements. Pulling out a sword and spinning it looks really cool, but in reality the straight forward cut has much more speed and purpose. That motion is for pure show. If it's intent was to actually kill there are too many movements. Think blitzkrieg in chess?

While the photography and tone of the specialist are impressive, and without being able to slow down this short to get a good look at the hand:handle, it looks like, 1) if the blade where to strike a person, it would fall out of the swordsman's hand, and 2) be very difficult to move with any sort of follow-up or change of direction, given the too-loose grip:too-hard swing, and take the sword with him. This flourish is brash and showy, but not for cutting anything more than air or an unresolved spirit. *reviews channel before posting* Ah- Film industry player. Understood. What your looking for is called an Iaito. It's a katana without a sharpened or live edge and designed with iaido(the art of drawing and sheathing the sword) in mind. Serious ones that are custom designs and we'll made start at around $1k US. Do yourself a favor and start with a bokken(wooden sword usually made from oak). You can buy one online for like $20 US. Start there and if you start taking swords seriously, then get a Nihon Iaito(japanese made practice sword). Seidoshop website has excellent high quality Japanese made goods and you should take a look there. DO NOT however buy a random sword from offline until you've done some research. You'll just wind up hurting yourself or someone else when the one tang POS flies off the handle cause you're swinging it like Paul Bunyan in your backyard LOL. Hope the comment helps and take the way of the sword seriously. It will change your life.

I think the intention behind it may be a “clearing of the grass” the quick action may get an attacker to jump back, which is maybe why he takes his time re-sheathing, as he’s still prepared for another attack. Or it could maybe be used as a warning to a possible attacker. In either case, I think it’s to give you time before combat. I could be wrong though
