Im so glad they are making these for all the new people in High Definition. I watched every single episode of Zatoichi and all the movies many years ago. He's probably the best actor in the world.

Katsu is a great actor! He can be emotional, inspirational, and even comical. Each episode took us back in time and learned a bit about ancient Japan. One forgotten aspect of Blind Swordsman was the "bad guys". They were all great actors. These villains created abusive situations even in full "daylight", or "committed evil acts without exhibiting "shame to the sun" that Ichi just cannot ignore. In this particular episode, the priest delivered the best line: "I do not deal with the affair of the living" and the best actress was the little girl Okumi. She was such a darling and outstanding. The cinematographic displayed her innocence, love, care, and dream mixed with extreme violence. Yet, we enjoy it very much.

I've watched quite a few of this series, and this is by far my favorite episode. Fantastic story, with genuine feeling. I even found myself tearing up at the end.

this is such a beautiful episode showing a wonderful lost fatherhood he never had,but the fight at the end where his cane is stuck in a body an he realeases it to block then cuts do(body)is incredible sensei katsu,we cannot thank you enough!legend!

Love these films, "Zatoichi." Like them all, this one shows romance and/or else tenderness, sacrifice or tragedy, greed and corruption, and rightious retribution with Zatoichi's indomitable lighting sword, of course. This episode particularly resonates with me, because as a young man on the US Air Force, I wanted a daughter the soul or spirit of whom I encountered while the only occasion of my guarding the kitty street crossing, as a military cop on duty at Berkstrum Air Force Base in 1970 or 71.

remarkable how the ambushers were unable to properly kill poor Yoshimatsu atrer three slashes to the body (two of them, full-force), one to the neck and a run-through stab to the torso. Quoting David Edding's Silk, "three men with swords should be able to do a proper job on someone".

Zatochi, is profound and very romantic, but it's also far from reality. It's an idealized world. It's the root of melodramas and it is what eventually lead it to be looked down upon, as there are no useful lessons to life, in fact it put one into an idealized fantasy of one man is a saint and the others are unredeemable scum, which they are in the episodes, but reality isn't that way. The invincibility also isn't healthy to watch. It won't give the right values to children watching it.
