My 2020 R/T has an active exhaust. When it’s put in sport mode you can hear, see (RPM) and feel the difference. Great video!

The dedication that you made to record that active exhaust is great!! Since I'm an A8 SP owner I can say this from driving in eco mode and if you set it into track on the highway you can actually feel the car going into full power and see a small jump in the rpm on the tach at a decent cruising speed

Thanks man! I saw and felt the difference, but I really wanted to see what was going on for sure. That jump in speed is the "increased throttle response" I love pressing track or Sport in 2nd gear around 2500RPM :)

Both my 2018 r/t plus and 2021 r/t plus have active exhaust. It comes with the super track pack option package.

Hey nice work doing that! I've had the Tazer now for a few weeks and absolutely love track mode, the shifts are so snappy and the trans loves to stay in the lower gears longer and finds them with less throttle input when needing to accelerate. I also believed it kept the valves open as it definitely rumbled more around town and under lower loads and rpms, but had no direct proof of it, this def was cool of you to finally prove. Sport mode doesn't exist anymore once you unlock track mode haha. Such a great product! Thanks for doing this!

Thank you, I really needed to know so it was worth the effort. If you don't mind maybe you can shed some light on one of the comments below. Do you have an A8 Scat Pack? If so as you are driving around in Track does the engine bog down on you (MDS?) if not what Tazer firmware version do you have? And it's track mode only now, so I guess I have to change my website slogan from "sport mode engaged..."

To provide a thought, if one moves the gear selector to the left the transmission changes to "manual mode." I only keep the transmission in automatic mode whilst on the highway or when traffic is bad. Whilst driving around town I stay in manual mode and it doesn't matter if sport mode is enabled or not - MDS doesn't kick in. Mayhaps a workaround (not necessarily a solution) is to keep the transmission in manual mode.

In track mode the engine doesn't bog down. I've noticed that with track mode the highest gear it will shift to is 7th gear, the engine will shift through all 8 gears if you have sport mode active.

Thank you, To best describe it... If you have driven with the car in sports mode you notice the difference, between sport and default. Imagine Track mode being just a little louder. If you are using this as the sole purpose to buy the TaZer I would say Don't do it just for the sound increase as it's not worth the price for this alone. This is more of a bonus feature if you will be using the Tazer for all of it's other functions like SRT mode, Line Lock, Engine Fan control, Light Show, etc...

I will, on occasion, have a much different sound with Sport Mode engaged than other times. I'm not sure if it's due to the temperature outside or - how long the engine has been running, but I really dl like that "initial different sound" and wish I could replicate it at will.

The 2013 R/T does not have active exhaust valves so unfortunately the exhaust portion won't work, FCA didn't install active Exhaust on the R/T until 2017. By the way if you are buying a TaZer feel free to use the "workplaydrive" discount code ;)

Very informative video and love the camera to show it working. I got my tazer and set up the srt pages in my 18 scat manual and noticed some bugs. The track mode along with sport mode only work sometimes. The traction control seems to have a mind of its own and I can’t keep it off when my vehicle has the tazer active. Also it seems like the vehicle says it’s in track mode when it feels and sounds like it’s still in street and other times it feels like track is really activated. Any tips?

I would say reach out to zAutomotive for some in depth troubleshooting. While their product works 99% of the time there have been a few cars out there that had some non standard behavior they needed to dig into.

Great vid!! I had a question that maybe you would know I read somewhere that if you remove the spring on the active exhaust and bolt it back up with out the spring on a 2019 it would stay open all the time. Any truth to that do you know..thanks

I haven’t confirmed it personally but I’ve seen two instances online where people swear they removed it on the 2019 and it worked without throwing a code. On my 2018 it won’t throw a code for the first 20 minutes of driving. After 20 minutes when you shut the car off and turn the car back on again it will put up the check engine light.

Finally pulled the trigger. Track mode definitely makes a noticeable difference, my favorite being steering. On your car is track steering now medium weighted like the stock scat sport steering, and sport the much heavier feeling setting?

The only thing I don't like about driving around in "Track Mode" is the steering is too stiff. Since I traded my A-8 Scat for a 6-speed manual Scat, the exhaust sound in default mode sounds good to me; I don't even put her in sport or track anymore. Lol

When you were recording the valve movement, in normal mode when the car is idling, is the valve opened or closed? In another way is track mode going to make the idle sound heavier or different?

Initially when the car is idling after cold start the valve is open. It is also STILL OPEN when the car quiets down after the first 30 seconds to a minute. I think track mode has some other factors at play but I cannot figure out what they are . The throttle is definitely more aggressive and it sounds a slight bit louder.

Work Play Drive it depends where you put them, i have them after the catalytic converter so there is no fumes that bother me and it sounds loud as a nascar lol you can see fire coming out sometimes when you rev, not bad for a 5.7

Sadly I cannot show the difference, it's noticeable but not enough to buy the Tazer based on this alone. Look at the other features it offers and consider this one a bonus. I feel it's got something to do with the increased throttle response (more than sport mode) it takes me a moment to get used to the Gas Clutch when I switch to sport mode, the same thing happens when I go from Sport to track .

Under the rear I used the rubber lift point for the jack (looks like a hockey puck), and the rocker trim has 2 cutouts I used the rear cutout to insert my jack pad and put in the jack stand. Let me know if that helps or you need a pic.

(He was going to scope the exhaust again, sometime, to see what it does in Sport Mode.) I don't want to confuse things but what I would like to know is, if the valve modulates while in all modes, there must be a reason for it, besides just sound. I think only the engineers can answer it though. For example, more restriction at low RPM for improved low end torque but wide open at high RPM.???

The active exhaust will open and close while driving in any mode. Track mode just keeps it open all the time. There is no way to keep it closed all the time.

Oh my gosh, I love you! This is EXACTLY what I wanted to see before buying a Tazer for my Scat Pack! I drive in sport mode around town just so I can better hear the sound of my Challenger's exhaust. Do you have any inclination to believe that the active exhaust baffles would act differently for an automatic Scat Pack when compared to a standard? I have no reason to believe this, and so my assumption is that enabling "track mode" on an eight-speed will bare the same result as your six-speed. Thank you very much!!! :)

Kyle, those are still the factory bulbs. There were a few posts on challengertalk.com on how to pull these our and solder in colored bulbs. For me it was too much risk and effort so I left them alone.

This sounds funny, but I bought red tail light tape, an x-acto knife, and a red paint marker. Carefully cut it around the light then painted the red tape darker with the marker. I didn’t want to hassle or pay for the expensive mod. About $14 and I have red lights above my seats. Just bought the Tazer for my 16 RT Challenger. Thanks for your uploads and info!

Thanks brother track mode is definitely my favorite mode to drive in. I'm on the fence with mid muffler delete or a set of low profile cutouts, if I had the height low profile cut outs to a set of side pipes would be my dream. When the weather breaks we need to setup a Cruise and shoot with the other local KZbin people in our circle you, Honestly ODC, SRT b5, and anyone else up for a good run.

I've got the QTP low profile cutouts and I really don't think it's worth it due to the clearance loss. Sounds incredible at WOT but other than that it's not so great. My buddy has a Challenger Scat Pack and he took the mufflers out...still driveable but sounds way better than my cutouts.

FP2000 eco mode is a ripoff your car automatically goes into eco mode under lite use if you go to you mpg monitor you will see your car change from Regg to 4cylinder taker is only good for track mode and that's it not much benefit lol

I have not tested the active exhaust behavior in Track mode with an SRT, but simply putting it in Track mode should have the same effect, this of course changes your suspension and steering. Lower models like the R/T do not have the Track mode option so the TaZer adds this functionality when you enable SRT mode.

Oh.. in addition to my reply below.. I will be removing Mid mufflers by spring .. And installing Mopar Stage 1 springs to lower and stiffen my car up just a little bit more.. Subtle change but .. good change .. on both counts ..

Totally missed this comment, two great changes just listen to someone who has had a mid Muffler delete, It sounds good, but it changes the tone. When I heard it in person I felt you lose some of that deep sound and trade it in for a much louder raspy sound. For me I like that low growl. I'm looking to lower mine as well if you remember let me know how you feel about those stage 1's

That depends on the shop and the product, in some cases the piping between the mufflers and resonators need to be replaced in this case that may remove the active exhaust, the shops could always weld it back in but it;'s really not necessary considering most people want them wide open anyway... You may need to have the car tuned or get simulators so the active exhaust modules do not throw codes

yes as per the feature chart you get a ton of stuff including the SRT pages. www.zautotech.com/docs/Tazer%20FAQs.pdf I don't think you have the ability to remove the rev limiter or the top speed, I contacted the maker to see if this is on his feature request list..

no, unfortunately there is nothing available yet to close them. Also there are a few other things at play during a cold start, that increased sound is not due to the valves being open. I was curious about this when I was scoping the exhaust when your car starts quieting down after 30 - 45 seconds the valves are still fully open.

Not sure about the 2016 Chargers, you will not notice the difference at idle. It's noticeable above 2000 RPM and 5th gear at highway speeds.

I wasn't 100% sure if you implied(while in the Default Mode) that the butterfly valve is continuously moving into positions that may not be fully open or fully closed, or whether it just moved to "Full Open" and the "Full Closed" postions. In other words does it appear to be continuously modulating?

If you install SRT mode you will lose the Bee Splash and the sport button function. You can still activate sport mode from the uconnect, if you hit the super track pack button it will take you Straight tot the SRT pages. From there you can select track, sport, or default mode.

I just wish you could make them full open with out driving in track mode all the time. Track made has hard shifts (as it should) that are too harsh for every day driving in my opinion. here is what I found with drive modes off you can not change traction control in different modes so when you put track mode on you should notice no indicator light, with drive mode on you can only change traction to sport in the sport mode setting so you change street or sport traction by going to either menu before going to track and then track will hold the previous setting i.e. go to sport for sport traction then track and you will have track mode with sport traction

Out of curiosity, if you confirmed that enabling track mode opens up the AES valves 100% of the time, why did you go through the process of installing the MFER-1 simulator? By the way, great job on the video showing the valves with the Borescope..really helpful as there are varying opinions on this all over the place.

In the 2019 Scat, SRT Drive modes, I am pretty sure I can go to "Custom", set the Transmission to "track" and then set everything else to "Street", therefore opening up the AES valves 100%, while keeping the suspension/steering in street mode for more daily driving comfort.

The reason for the MFER-1 was because modifying the drive modes changes the ride quality of the car. The MFER keeps it open regardless of the mode.
