Remember, you're required to get a performance ECM for the 2015+ Dodge vehicles because Dodge locks the chips from the factory. I know you can pay Dodge to unlock it for you, but I've not looked into that option, plus I don't believe you're able to install custom tunes, which you will also be required to do with any of the other mods in this list. I'd also throw headers into the same category as the chip; while being not very cost effective, they're both almost mandatory if you start doing any serious modding to your vehicle. Perhaps I missed it but if you drive a Challenger stock that's lower than the SRT versions, the best bang for buck mod you can do is buy better, wider tires. I know it doesn't add HP/TQ but I have a Scat with the stock 245's and I can't wait to buy my new tires. Spinning out sucks.

Yeah forced induction is always the best way to go and then an aggressive cam would be 2nd. The other add-ons will bring minimal gains but replacing the stock exhaust is a must, well at least on the older hemis anyway. I know that the newer late model Hemi cars have active exhaust and is really good these days, but that was one of the first things that I did with my 2010 Challenger SRT8 as the factory set up was much too quiet and the massive suitcase Style resonators and mufflers are heavy as well

Once you do a mod on any part of the engine from the throttle body to the Catalytic Converters (Basically anything other than a Cat Back and CAI) you need a Tuner anyway so your best money spent is to start there, a tuner and a good dyno tune. necstanunn is 100% correct as far as the 'chain reaction' in HP gains goes from one good mod on top of another. To get a good synergy going and to gain in the full HP/Torque curves, you need to compliment good air and fuel intake with exhaust as well as transmission to the rear wheels which is really what it's all about. You can have great numbers going in but if you can't transfer that to the pavement, and safely, without blowing your sh1t up or twisting your sh1t up (so ya gotta talk about stabilizing everything if you want to add ponies too, so don't forget that). Had a bro with an older - '96 - LT1 motored Firebird (convertible even), red with white racing stripes, sweet ride, def a p*ssymobile . He asked my opinion on what mods he should make on a 10k budget before he shipped the car to Europe to where he was relocating for his job. His plan was to tour eastern and central europe and rent it out to rich eurotrash and maybe sell it if he got the right offer. Anyway, I gave him my opinion, told him what mods he should do for his budget, he decided to speak to someone else, in turn didnt go to my mechanic whom I recommended highly, exceeded his budget on all top end sh1t with a *reputable* shop who just did motor work and SOAKED him for the amount of work they did but didn't weld his crank or cage his drive shaft, reinforce his top or his rear...SO, HE BLEW UP HIS CRANK ON THE AUTOBAN in turn seized up his drive shaft goin 140, twisted his rear and because it was a convertible twisted the f*cking frame and it ended up being a total loss...and a 30k paperweight. He couldnt even get it repaired because he didnt have any hard-core shops anywhere near him. Sad, because it was a bad-ass firebird and if he would have listened to me, he'd still be motorin around Europe with a seriously collectible American muscle car...

Supercharging a stock 392 can be risky, if you keep the boost low, tune well, and maybe meth injection. The top piston rings are pretty close the the top of the piston, so not much meat above it. You heat them up too much, the ring gap closes, and the rings have to push upward possibly popping a chunk out of the piston. A big shot of nitrous can do this too. All this with an already high compression ratio. It can be done, you just need to plan ahead before you run a whole lot of boost

From the factory, these cars come with a cold air intake. So I'd be reluctant to call a cold air intake an upgrade. Most (but not all) aftermarket intakes are hot air intakes evident by the filter being visibly exposed to under hood temperatures. Generally, if you can see the air filter element when you open the hood, then it's exposed to the heat of the engine compartment.

Forced induction can be added to a fairly stock vehicle. I had an LS1 C5 with a Vortech V3si A&A supercharger and ran a Borla cat back. Otherwise the exhaust was stock. 9lbs of boost. Picked up right at 185 hp to the rear tires through an auto trans (470 whp). Installed and tuned cost about $7500 in 2011. Forced induction is the way to go. No bottle to refill. I spent the money on these mods with my first challenger and found out the hard way. I even had it tuned, but the dyno doesn’t lie. Don’t waste the money. If you really want more horsepower save up for the supercharger and/or better tires. All these companies claiming 15-20 hp for a cai are botching their numbers.

CAI by itself will not do much at all. If you pull more more are in, you need to be able to do burn that air, and push that extra air back out the back. For best results you can add larger throttle body and spacer, intake manifold, a tune, headers, high flow cat and a larger diameter cat back exhaust. It all works together to move a higher volume of air.
@MrHhmking6 жыл бұрын
Alex agreed....everything on this list, aside from F/I...is a waste of money. Headers, cam, e85...the best you can do for N/A COMBINED you'll get 50/75hp to the wheels. NOS is a (shot)..and extremely damaging to internals over a short period of time. Cat backs, CAI, high flow cats....nonsense

@CaseAgainstFaith12 жыл бұрын
From people that actually tune these cars, the actual HP gains for a CAI is maybe 5 HP. For a bigger throttle body, about 0 unless you have other mods to need a bigger throttle body. For a catback, again not much unless you have other mods to need more exhaust. Though it might be more significant if you have something like 2015 or earlier which had smaller exhaust than the current models. For headers, you need to separate it into shorty and long-tube. Generally shortys do very little. But long tubes with a tune is significant.

I hear a lot of people recommending CAI mods. Sure, the Power/$ is high on the graph, but the dollar amount of the mod is low which translates to - you shouldn't really expect that much from it. The bottom line is; it's an air filter, guys. Just an air filter. And just an air filter pulls from the same source of hot air under the hood that your stock filter was pulling from.
@paulpetarson17244 жыл бұрын
With a cat back system and high flow muffler and air aid cold air intake on a 392 hemi you might gain 15 to 20 hp combined. N2O can be bad but if used correctly and not for out right drag racing does little harm to the motor. For the best gains i would install a CAI, larger throttle body , long tube headers high flow cats, swap out the intake manifold and get the ecu flashed. This will take a stock 2012 challenger 392 from advertised 470 hp with 470 ft/t to 540hp and 510 ft/t . Any hp gains in any car cost coin there is no cheap way around it if you want the car to last

Your horsepower numbers sound good to me, one thing to keep in mind is the internals....rods, pistons, crank of a stock 345 and 392 can't handle a supercharger. Sooner or later something is going to break under repeated stress. Most if not all engine builders recommend replacing all bottom end internals before adding a supercharger. I do like built 345's it brings back the days of the 340's especially the sixpack.....BTW you keep your car nice and clean, nice post man!

Actually, I personally own the '17 392 ScatPack and I know a handful of scatpack owners that bolted on to their cars a 2.9 L 3rd gen whipple superchargers w/o going through the process of upgrading the internals, and from 485 hp they're only using 10 lbs of boost to create north of 650 hp. Though i must say if they where to upgrade the internals then you'd be able to have a challenger faster than the hellcat for practically half the price

Mo Shahin how long have your friends been running 10psi boost and what bolt ons did they use? I ask because I’ve been going back and forth with the idea of getting a bolt on for my Scat and have read about plenty of people who have had stock 392 internals fail when using 8 or greater psi and a bolt on.
@TheMrHulkSmash8 ай бұрын
Catback exhaust and headers are mainly for sound and increased airflow... You don't see much horsepower gains unless paired with a throttle body w/ spacer, CAI, and a tune. So, some of these would be lower on the list. NOS has an increased risk of damage to the engine, so this is the tradeoff for the highest price-to-horsepower ratio.
@farhadkay44606 жыл бұрын
Sorry i have to say this video is very misleading. You're over simplifying these mods. to super charge or turbo a N/A car you need to reinforce the internals as well. I didn't think that they would, but got them for the sound and do work well together with CAI to help it breathe better though. The SRT8 do have functional hood, but I've been thinking about going with a hellcat or demon one and would work great to cool off the engine bay. Then to complete that part of it, I want to add headers, throttle body, and retune it with my diablo

No!!! It’s never known as NOSS.

Don’t you have to get a tune to maximize the gain? And won’t that invalidate the warranty?
@imcelestial14174 жыл бұрын
Yup

Without a tune, a cold air on most cars does nothing. Dynos prove they dont in most cases. Unless you drive in a hot climate and your car is forced induction, than theyre useless in most cars. Plus oiled filters can cause dirty MAF sensor issues. No way you are getting 10-20 Hp on a 5.7 Hemi without a tune. With a conservative 91 tune and a cold air 10-15 tops. 5.7s respond better to long tubes
@Chriselectricfingers6 жыл бұрын
Forced induction is expensive bc is not just that simple , to bolt on a SPC nd call it a day! See a stock motor will def suffer nd most likely get hurt if u just gonna bolt on w/o engine upgrade !!!

Quit calling it NOS! Nitrous oxide has no acronym of NOS. NOS in regards to nitrous stands for the company Nitrous Oxide Systems.
@nrgrlsd99314 жыл бұрын
So......if I installed a nitrous oxide system on my car, I could call it nos? Or only if I buy from that company? Please tell me what the proper verbiage is. Because we all know that's the most important part.
