I pretty sure this is the problem on my 98. When it rains and it's just sitting the passenger floor board gets soaked. Swung down glove box door and could see water coming from up in there. Pulled my cowl this morning and realized I can't get in there to seal. Thanks for the video. Good idea. I will probably take this same approach. The hell with pulling the dash unless absolute must.

Thank you for this follow-up! I just picked up a 98 Cherokee that had this problem. I had diagnosed the leak prior to finding this, and wondered about caulking from the top side, and this video answered my question. I had it fixed inside an hour, and so far my floor is dry!

My passenger side foot well filled with water, while parked in the rain,… also underneath the seat the floor fabric is moist. I've had the XJ (a 1996) since late 2015, first time this ever happened, 2023.

I just found, I mean 30 min ago, the same leak on my 96 Cherokee Sport. Been leaking for years. I removed air intake grill and put hose in it. Water was FLOWING into passenger compartment. Arrgggggg

I just had my damn dash out to replace the heater core and I should’ve fixed this. Not doing it again. I’ll probably take this approach. Thank you

What type of silicon did you use. i want to do this same procedure this week. Thanks

This may fix some of them, but if not check the gasket / seal around the blower box and blower fan housing as he said. Dash has to come out, disconnect AC lines, etc. It's a major pain to fix it. Ask me how I know.

Pull the carpet out. Drill some holes in the floor. Rhino line it and call it good 😜

This video is the quick and easy fix . Right fix is pull the dash out and reseal air box. This is not fun and requires 2 people, knowledge, time, and patience

I’ve got a leak in my 98’ that’s shorting out my cab fuse box .. Anyone having similar issues? And if so Any suggestions on a fix?! PS I RTV’d the gasket on my antenna and Water is still getting in...

I have a 97 and have water getting in passenger floorboards...thought was door seal...will look into this repair. Yes! Have a few shorts/draws that drain the battery after a few days. Main draws were glovebox light, door switches and gauges. Will do this repair and then repair the shorts.
@christianwise63853 жыл бұрын
Update! it was actually just badly spliced in by a lazy mechanic and that was the actual issue. I bought the harnesses and new fuse panel from the junkyard over lockdown and never dealt with that again

What if i don't re-atach the metal piece? make any difference?
@Zaxx1576 жыл бұрын
julio mazariegos the metal piece exists to provide a cover to your fresh air intake so water doesn’t get sucked into your blower. I would recommend bending the metal piece back in place to help prevent water from getting into your blower and cab, especially during driving in rainstorms.

Yes, terribly built. My girlfriend loves her 4 liter powered '89 XJ Pioneer that just clocked ~304,000 miles on the odometer and still going strong. My '87 just clocked ~167,000.
