Zayn's music has Indian or Pakistani influence to it since he's half Pakistani. He does have an awesome range. He can get really high in some of his high notes and then also hits some with a more fuller voice. Zayn was always the one to hit the high notes and runs in the One Direction songs. I would recommend listening to Dusk Till Dawn cuz in that he holds a high note that's a whole min long. Liam also has a nice range but he tends to go into falsetto to hit those notes. When Zayn left 1D, Liam and Harry both took over the higher notes from Zayn's parts.

Exactly. I don't think these people understand how much difficult it is to belt a high note than to sing it in falsetto. Non desi people also don't understand that the south asian vocal technique zayn uses in his singing is a lot harder to master and a lot more impressive than regular western pop singing. Liam is a good singer compared to people like justin bieber or the 3 other 1d members but he's no where near zayn's level. I don't think a lot of people understand just how talented zayn is

Liam is known for his great voice but for being in the fandom since 2012, I’ve always heard and known myself that Zayn is definitely the most vocally powerful out of all of them. Obviously they’re both gifted in their own ways but Zayn is for sure the most vocally gifted.

liam's range goes from c2 to b5 (4 octaves) and zayn's range goes from a2 to a5 (3 octaves). so basically they can reach the same higher notes but liam can also hit some really low notes. the reason most people think that zayn can reach higher notes is because in the band he was the one who did most of the high notes. also they can get to the same notes in head voice but there are notes that zayn can hit with his chest voice and liam would have to switch to head voice.

their range is close, but the difference is that zayn can use his cheast voice to reach higher notes while liam can't he has to change to falsetto or head voice, also i think a lot of vocal coaches have talk about how zayn has a better control of his voice and it's more easy for him to "play with his voice" , melism, riff, runs and that stuff. Liam range is very good tho, i think he can reach lower notes than zayn

Well zayn was known of having the best vocals. Some say & i don't know where it' from that liam has a bigger range, i can't confirm that but what i can confirm is that zayn hit higher notes than liam & his voice is richer, has more control (even the other members used to say it all the time & zayn used to do the high notes on 1d songs)

Nah y'all just love undermining zayn's talent by limiting his vocal ability to high notes when he has a very large and controlled range. Liam is limited to the western scale which already makes his range a lot smaller but he also sings everything in falsetto so his singing might sound "higher" than it really is to some people who aren't too knowledgeable about music

Zayn is just so special, he is not like other artists, that’s what I loved about him the first time I found him (and his voice and face of course) two years ago (but I knew about Dusk till dawn since the first day he released it and I loved it, I listened to that song a lot even if I didn’t knew Z) and now he is my favorite artist and man in the world. My opinion is that out of all the 1D boys, Liam has the most range but also the most commercialized voice, which makes him have to work extra hard to set his music apart from all the other artists out there. Unfortunately having the commercially stronger voice isn’t always a blessing and in his case is sorta a curse. Zayn’s music is my least favorite but only because he’s in a genre that I’ve just never got into. I love what he brought to 1D though. He was a true asset to the group.

I agree with this assessment. The tone of Liam's voice is probably the least unique of the five, which makes him standout the least, which is such a shame because he really is very vocally talented, and was just as important to the band's success as each of the other four.

Agree with everything you said, it's taken me a couple of days to get round to listening to this, I think people should stop comparing the boys voices in the band, to their solo voices, 1D were brilliant with 5 /4 voices harmonising together, Zayn played a massive part in 1Ds songs but I personally don't like his solo voice, too whiney and mumbles so much you can't hear the lyrics, I know Zayn has got a brilliant voice, he proves that it 1D, but it's his choice of solo music(modern R&B) that I can't get into, I keep trying, but I can't get through a full song :)

Just re the range thing, I think it was more that Liam had a more rounded vocal ability early on. He was the one who auditioned when he was 14. He came back at 16 and his audition was pretty impressive tbh. He’s also capable of the higher range. Zayn was always known for his high notes, but it sounds like part of the reason he jumped (deffo not all of it) was because he wasn’t able to use his voice the way he wanted and he didn’t get his songs chosen to be on the album/s (I think he started writing later than the others iirc). I just think they tried to squash him into a place he didn’t really fit. I agree though, this is chill and nice to listen to, but it’s not one of my faves. Icarus Falls is a looooong album, with some fantastic moments (Stand Still in particular for me). I did find I had to adjust my ear the most for his stuff, because I never listened to a lot of R&B before, but it gets under your skin with repeat listens. Gotta say I love your reactions they’re honest and enthusiastic without being ott. I appreciate that!

Zayn always has a high voice and shows it, Liam doesn't show it as much as Zayn but he can sing real deep and realy high too, and that's what's impressive about Liam. In the band he always did the high harmonies while Zayn sang the high parts, so Liam was more in the background for the high notes, but Zayn can't really sing deep while Liam has also a really deep voice sometimes in some songs...

You're just setting liam up at this point tbh he's a really good singer but he was never able to hit notes as high as zayn. All his attempts at singing zayn's solo just highlighted how limited his supported range is and the lack of control he had in his upper range. While we're at it, zayn has also had a more controlled lower range than liam since wwa so no he doesn't have a larger range than zayn even if we're strictly talking about the western scale

Liam can hit lower notes in his chest voice than Zayn, but Zayn can hit higher notes in his chest voice than Liam, and both have great falsettos. So, in the band, both Liam and Zayn (and occasionally Harry) would sing some falsetto. Zayn and Louis (being a tenor) sung the higher chest voice notes, while Harry, Liam, and Niall mostly sung in the mid-range chest voice. Although through solo careers we've found that all of them can use falsetto effectively. So, technically, I believe Liam has the most overall range, but what notes he can hit in chest voice is a little different than Zayn. Hope that makes sense.
