I found Zen meditation at the age of 12 . Being in a Christin family my father told me that Jesus when he turned 12 years of age was released from the family to find his path in life. The week I turned 12, I reminded my Mother and Father in our car on the way to church that it was time for me to step out on my own. My brother and two sisters looked at me but kept quiet letting me step out onto the curb. Each Sunday it was the same with a kiss and hug and off I went into so many beautiful churches in our community but never feeling like I was home until I stepped into a Zen Temple on the outskirts of town. Instantly warmth surrounded my Soul, I was HOME. Jesus Christ is my guide and King, Buddha is my friend and teacher on how to pray and stay in the moment in perfect harmony with Jesus walking and talking to my Spirit. In high school behind my back I was known as Mellow Mel because of the wonder I saw around me in all things, my teachers got used to my walking gate "SLOW" and I always had a smile for any and all no matter if they never smiled back. My world became complete at the age of 12

This is similar to my path. You are not alone. Many of us have a similar Christian Buddhist journey. If you read "The Good Heart" by his Holiness the Dalai Lama and Living Buddha, Living Christ By Thich Nhat Hanh I promise you will cry. I hope you are still practicing and you are doing well.

Take care with paraffin candles in enclosed spaces because of the pollution it gives out. Beeswax candles are safer for air quality. Just an observation xxx

Thank you for sharing your session with us. I'm probably six years too late to get an answer, but I did have a question that maybe someone else can answer. I've read that images/figures of the Buddha shouldn't be placed too low. Is this something that's not as crucial for Zen Buddhist purposes? I personally like where you have your Buddha figure placed, and I'd like to do this myself, but having read about the "proper" height to place Buddha images, etc..., I've been hesitant. Thanks again for sharing!

Buddha shouldn't be placed too low... exactly! There is a protocol to respect.

Highs and lows don’t exist. In fact, its only when the Buddha himself sat low to the ground underneath the bodhi tree that enlightenment found him.

when zendo is place, where are no any toys for a mind, only wall in front, you reached an understanding - zen is 24 h daily practice. what is not bad for the beginner.
@Marcellussmiley4 жыл бұрын
but why bother facing a wall if your eyes are closed? ah
@vytautaskunevicius97314 жыл бұрын
the wall don't let to mind to travel, protects and creates a place of sitting mind. for to have a right attention and level of concentration in meditation, eyes must be partly closed, but not full. doors, me see, is too much closer. bad feng-shui.

Ill answer your questions for you. Its called culture. Zen meditation has a certain culture that comes with it. Same with buddhism. Sure you can practice buddhism’s philosophies or just have a buddha statue sitting in the corner, but theres also a tradition and culture behind it. Otherwise you would just be praying to a meaningless statue and practicing philosophies from a person who didn’t practice buddhism at all and made it up. Thats why he “goes through the trouble” of making a zendo and performing a ritual before he sits (even though its not any trouble to do these), because its a part of the practice. I hope this answered some questions.

@Endless Journey how can you be good for nothing? You always observe every action you do in some way. I don't see how an action can be detached from the following reaction that itself is giving the direction for the direction.

5 жыл бұрын
It's just the light coming in the window, so there actually isn't very bright, but the light sensor in the camera may make it appear so. However none of my teacher have said that practicing in a complete dark room is better. I've never tried it, but I don't see how a dark room should help.
@sinhnguyen48155 жыл бұрын
@ Is it morning or afternoon time? It's very pretty if that's what it is! I think darkness helps with seeing different forms in the environment, and save energy on cognitive processes. It is good to get more and more acquainted with emptiness after you've realized it.
