The unvaxxed are the drivers of herd immunity. For this vaccine, it's the people getting vaxxed encouraged the Delta variant, which did the most damage. Omicron is nature taking back the evolution of the virus to be what is would have been without having to become more virulent, only more transmissible. Omicron is nature's jab for everyone with natural durable immunity against itself and the previous evolutionary line. This is herd immunity at nature's best. Even the lab tampered virus seems to be powerless to counter the natural innate evolutionary drive to become more contagious less deadly. Nature finds a way.

We got our shots, boosters, wear masks. I took care of other people in hellish conditions I've never seen in my 18 years in healthcare. When my husband got a breakthrough infection and my baby got COVID, I was expected to suck it up and head back to the front lines. I likely got Omicron at a party on Christmas, but it wasn't until 10 days after the party that I was notified about covid exposure. After notified, I recalled I was sweatier than usual while sleeping for a couple days a few days after the party. I also recall having sneezed ~20 times, very mildly runny nose intermittently, and mild fatigue (I chalked that up to stress and sleep deprivation) for a couple days. Had I not been notified about the covid exposure at the party, I would have forgotten about those barely noticeable symptoms. I actually ran and worked out intensely those days without missing a step. This virus is endemic. It's time to move on.

From a personal standpoint, I’m in complete agreement. My family is vaccinated and we’re not worried about developing severe disease. HOWEVER, with weekly testing mandates at my children’s school, a positive test means: - my kids stays home for at least 5 days and must have a negative test before returning to school even though they’re vaccinated. This means: - I have to stay home to watch my kids because where am I going to last minute childcare, especially when they’re COVID positive? This means: - the hospital is short-staffed because I’m an ICU physician and we are a limited resource. I’m not worried about getting sick. I’m worried about my kids missing school. I’m worried about missing work. I’m worried about understaffed hospitals. And until school districts and government change their policy, I still have to do what I can to avoid exposure. It’s stressful when you know you’ll be ok, but policy limits what you should do.

@Ron_the_Skeptic2 жыл бұрын
@@positivebenzowithdrawal5578, I think the answer to your question is that 77.450% of the population is fully vaccinated. There are some part of that population that have also received a booster and there is another part of the total population, not counted by me, that has had a single dose. I left them out of the comparison. 3 to 1 is 75%. The difference between 75% and 77.5% is not statistically significant. In ICU the ratio is closer to 50% fully vaccinated, but the claim that the vaccine is the reason is problematic. Vaccines inform the immune system of a pathogen. It is then up to the immune system upon encountering the pathogen to eliminate it. Typically the the battle with SARS-COV-2 lasts a week. After that the immune system is cleaning up the remains of the war. The cytokine storm that put so many in ICU begins a few days after the immune system begins cleaning up. This is well after the vaccine has done what it was supposed to do. Vitamin D is the hormone that regulates the immune system and one of its jobs is to prevent the cytokine storm. Of course, age, obesity, diabetes, general fitness and other factors also factor into your experience, so what you might experience is determined by far more than just were you vaccinated, or not. And, having typed all of that, I see your question was "how do you know that ratio of v to un v?", not "do you know that ratio of v to un v?", which is a different question. Here’s a thought that just occurred to me. We’ve been talking about over worked, stressed healthcare workers. Why haven’t we put resources and our energy in to recruiting healthcare workers, expanding our services, instead of maintaining status quo, allowing people to burn out and providing rationed care. During WWII what did our society do? We rallied. Women stepped in and filled in the Gaps in factories and the work force at home. In this COVID situation , can’t we switch the narrative to inspire, encourage, recruit young people to become a healthcare worker. Can’t we take all this COVID money and invest in to hospitals, clinics, community resources. I know people are tired, but I’m tired of hearing how tired everyone is. Let’s get to work!

I Live in the villages in Florida I am a retired nurse. I worked in a company who researched the latest drugs and new technologies for their efficacies. We actually moved to Florida during the height of Covid last year. We vaxed and boosted and wore masks if requested but for the most part we chilled my husband and I are not high risk middle aged people. I still went to the gym, we have concerts and a majority of us “young ins” did not wear masks. We vaxed are chillin. Luckily we were able to spend a lot of time outside even in the summertime where early morning activities are the best. In early December my husband felt fatigued and had a sore throat, I was sneezing. We did not run out and get tested we felt we should leave the test for higher risk group and as it turned out within 48 hours my husbands symptoms subsided. My sneezing stopped. I just can’t believe the panic that has ensued. I listen to you and Pranad and have seen Dr Marty Makari on your show and Fox News and align with the same beliefs.

For me, knowing more about long covid/post-acute sequelae (how common is it actually, how does it happen, can we predict who will be affected, can we do anything to prevent/treat) is the last piece of the puzzle to be less concerned about COVID. Some of the recent stats about e.g. increased incidence of diabetes, heart attack, stroke, etc. after previously recovering from "mild" COVID are worrisome. I know some other cold/flu viruses are suspected to be culprits of chronic fatigue etc. but anecdotally it seems like this may be significantly more common with COVID (though this perception is also obviously biased by the volume and publicity of COVID-specific research right now). Beyond long covid, I agree we are in a much, much better position now than we once were and getting closer to being able to "chill". We know a lot about the acute phase of the disease and have good options for prevention (vaccination, ventilation, high-quality masks) and treatment (antivirals, mAbs, steroids).

@@celinenaville Just the same as some people don't talk about the people who got vaccianted and got severe neropthies (things like nerve sensitivities that heighten your senses to unhandlable degrees). These are people that signed up for vaccine trials. Point is, there is a risk on both ends, but which end of the risk the person wishes to take should be their own decision. Although, some of these things, i.e. diabetes, seems to be backwards where people with untested diabetes are at more risk of catching covid and then they are seen to have diabetes afterwards, but the truth is they had developed it before they caught covid it just was not noticed until afterwards. Given the low percentile of people this is entirely possible.

I have firsthand experience with the "schism" of "Covidians". The people within my eastern Massachusetts community orbit are mostly "Covidians". We shared the same thoughts about managing COVID-19 (social distancing, wearing masks, etc..) before vaccines. And many decided getting vaccinated was a good idea. But many of these people - fully vaccinated - were recently at an indoor soccer match for our kids and many wore cloth masks or loose-fitting medical masks. There wasn't a mask mandate by the facility. I'm in the "vax 'n chill" camp and own only cloth masks so I didn't wear mine. But most of the other parents did. And it was slightly uncomfortable. I could feel the judgment seeping from beneath their masks. The kicker is that one week later the facility closed matches to spectators, with these conditions: 1. Participants must mask on their way in and out of the facility. 2. Players don't need to wear masks while playing. So in my son's soccer matches there's a lot of close play, with heavy breathing by players running up and down the field. The kids don't have to wear a mask when they're on top of each other and breathing heavily, but they do while walking next to each other. I've been saying "What are we doing?" and "This is lunacy" a lot. :)

And now I have Post-Acute Covid Syndrome (AKA Long Covid). I passed it along to my very compromised mother. We ended up in the ER six weeks after contracting it with heart palpitations, tachycardia, and difficulty breathing. It’s almost a year later, and we’ve been vaxed and boosted, and we STILL have symptoms. I had to go on monthly injections to prevent the dizziness and mental confusion and migraines. I had to be off work for 5 months and still feel absolutely wiped out at the end of every work day and cannot stay awake, sometimes even driving home. I have had to give up on daily living that we take for granted (dishes, laundry, vacuuming, mopping), I have had to give up my social life, and more. And there are no indicators for who will get Long Covid. Yes, get tested after an exposure to protect those around you.

Thank you for bringing it up! Exactly, this gets forgotten very often. Pre-Omicron, it didn‘t look that promising for the vaccines to protect from long covid - there was not that much good data I feel, I really don‘t know what to think. The whole world seems to forget about it and only focus on the perceived mildness of Omicron, which is probably warranted for vaccinated people, at least for boosted ones, but the „mildness“ is being exaggerated for the unvaccinated, with just 25% less severity than Delta - that is not mild in my eyes.

@@droneinthehood Good thoughts. Yes, right now, perhaps out of a sheer, understandable desire to open the release valve after a long two years, people's assessment of where we are at right now feels very glossy. Ok, Omicron is "less severe." Got it. But what's the risk distribution looking like for the at-risk population? Again, long covid? Do we know? I'm not personally losing sleep over Omicron right now, but I do have concerns about at-risk populations and how people will relate to their understandable anxiety about unknown characteristics of Omicron. I think another element that is missing in this discussion is holding compassion for the at-risk folks in light of the uncertainties. Ok, yes, let's not use a giant policy hammer and mandate the heck out of society. Granted. But swinging the other direction and losing sight of, and not acknowledging, real on-going impacts of Omicron is a problem I think. Last week (1/3)I went in to be tested for the big C, I was told negative, treated for a sinus infection and sent on my way. Today (1/10)my wife is showing the same symptoms I had a week ago. Goes to the same clinic, was given a test, but was told if you have been vaccinated and boosted (we both are) the Omicron won’t show up on a test until it has developed for a few days after on set of symptoms. Why is this not being said anywhere??
@Ron_the_Skeptic2 жыл бұрын
Regardless of the variant, the test will not (assuming no false positives) register a positive result until your body has had time to make a lot of the virus. The test relies on a sufficient volume of virus in your airway that can be transferred to the swab. The PCR test just amplifies whatever is on the swab then looks for pathogens. Throughout, the problem has been determining how much amplification is reasonable.

My hubs and I are 70 years old. We have been on "Vax and Chill" since lock down in Bay Area. We had to leave Australia early as Bay Area was locking down and we didn't know what was to be. Few had masks on that flight to SFO. Since that March 2020 hubs and I have been to Hawaii twice, road trip to Oregon, road trip to S. CA, flight and road trip in Southern Utah, and upcoming flight to San Diego. Flying we wear the N95 mask. We seldom go out to eat even on trips. Our last three week to Maui, which brought us home two weeks ago, we went out to eat twice and both were outside. My point is that one can enjoy, chill, and continue on, one foot in front of the other and be cautious.

If we sell N-95 masks to the public, who will fit test the wearer? I have some experience with this. I have done fit testing at two different jobs in my nursing career. I failed my last fit test; I needed a differently designed N-95. How will the public know if the N-95 is right for them if it has been purchased from Amazon? If no fit test is done, the buyers may think they are more protected than they actually are. Additionally, the public probably doesn't change masks frequently enough. You can't wear them indefinitely.

Why can't public policy be focused first around general health, not being obese, vitamin D, prophylactics, treatment? Why is it nothing but the vaccine? You had me going for a while there.
@Dudewhoswinning2 жыл бұрын
Because general health like obesity isn't something you can drastically change overnight. That requires medium or long term change. When Covid is with us right now, losing weight and being healthy isn't going to change your risk profile for at least 6 months. So the vaccine is a lot more actionable in the short term
@Dudewhoswinning2 жыл бұрын
Let me add, I agree that keeping healthy is 100% the best protection. But getting a vaccine is an instant boost that is not that intrusive
@heatherstacy29762 жыл бұрын
I get you and agree, but public health has been telling people not to be obese and get adequate nutrition for some time now. That's not a new concept because of the pandemic, people are just seeing how the comorbidities play out in real time with a virus. There are other treatments being spoken about as well, like monoclonal antibodies and several new antiviral drugs. The comment above mine hits the nail on the head.
@Narrowgaugefilms2 жыл бұрын
I've always thought if you want to incentivize vaccination, you have to let people go free once they have the shot. Telling them they should get the shot and then still have to hide down in the basement is just telling people the vaccines don't really work and gives an excuse to people who are against them.
@neowild2 жыл бұрын
Except it should have never been somethign that should be made to happen. If someone told you that you had to take a medical treatment that they barely tested or be locked away until you take the treatment for the sole reason of encouraging you to take the treatment there is no justification for locking the person away. It has been demonstrated that there was never a substantial enough benefit to justify locking away unvaccinated individuals. And as you have said it does give more incentive not to be vaxxed. I personally believe that the vaccines work at reducing your risk of sever disease and death, but this is especially so if you are older. As for other concerns of rare negative outcomes from even mild cases of covid like long covid as they call it, there are also rare cases of severe negative outcomes from vaccines as well. The thing is that life has always been full of risk and here it is clear that people should have a right to choose the risk they take. Last year the influenza killed more kids than covid, we are not banding together to create lockdowns and vaccine mandates to stop influenza. Trust me, it breaks my heart that any single person should die from disease, but it is also a part of life and as a whole human kind needs to rise up and continue living because being alive is about more than just breathing and states like New York show that hiding away shows we have no power to stop a virus by hiding away.

My issue is that the “Families First Coronavirus Response Act” expired on 12/31/21 and many businesses, schools and institutions are STILL requiring employees to quarantine 5-10 days if they test positive, regardless of vaccination status, and now they aren’t required to pay them. You can’t use FMLA or STD to quarantine. You may not have enough vacation/sick days to quarantine. It’s a HUGE issue!
