As an Everton fan, I don't the Aston Villa loss is on Dyche. Bournemouth, probably was. But Villa is 100% on the players. I think Dyche's subs in that game were good. But the players just aren't there. Michael Keane is no where near Premier League quality. Calvert Lewin looks completely lost, the only reason he scored is because of the defender being pushed back. He seems to have no concept of offside or basic attacking positioning. But there is something very wrong with the mentality of the squad. And I don't think there's much Dyche can do at this point. We're stuck with the squad we have due to Moshiri's criminal negligence. And it's clear to me that Dyche cares more than any player. But there's nothing he can do. Also on the Sunderland point, it's ironic to point out that the man in goal in the final fateful season, was Jordan Pickford. And we signed him immediately off the back of a 70 goal season. That should've been a red flag right away

Gonna correct you on one thing, Zealand. Great points but Everton didn’t scrape by last season at all. Even with the points deduction we were safe with several games to spare. 12th on points earned, level with everyone’s heartthrob Brighton. But anyway… soul crushing, yeah a bit. Bournemouth more than Villa though. There was no excuse for the Bournemouth collapse but Villa at least have some quality and we didn’t deserve to be 2-up to begin with. That result probably happens regardless of our current form. Dyche has totally missed with his tactics and player selection to start the season and it’s rearing its ugly head though. That’s where this circles back to on top of years of mismanagement. We brought in some good players in a few key spots finally and he decides to stick with Michael Keane and Ashley Young because why? Combine that with the bad luck and a tough run of games and this is what you have. You look at every single game between here and mid November though and there’s not a single one Everton can’t or shouldn’t be outright favored to win. This is where Dyche will either save his job or we’ll be cut adrift early. No reason to panic *yet* but it has to kick into gear this week against teams of a similar level.

Everton are such a weird, weird side. From my time watching football from around the age of 4 in 1990 onwards, Everton were always that awkward, horrible to play team that would finish anywhere from 9th to 17th… never really entertaining. Then under Moyes & Martinez they got a bit more consistent, a little more entertaining on rare occasion, but always felt “too big to go down”, you know? Now though it’s just, weird. In the summer I assumed they would have sold their most valuable players like Jarrad Branthwaite, Amadou Onana, Jordan Pickford and Dominic Calvert-Lewin to raise enough funds to bring in players, and the only one they sold was Amadou Onana, while bringing in some pretty uninspired signings.
@RudeRuud10Ай бұрын
The only game that's genuinely upsetting as an Everton fan is the collapse against Bournemouth. That was inexcusable and solely down to Dyche for not bringing on fresh legs to consolidate the win. Everyone could see the players starting to slow down past 70 mins and he only made 2 subs that game. Didn't bring on another CB, kept the same shape etc. Absolute fucking joke. The Brighton game was worse than it appears, we should have had a penalty at 1-0 down, they score to make it 2-0, Young gets sent off and they make it look good at 3-0. We probably still deserved to lose but, it's Brighton who had the highest net spend in the league. Not the worst thing. Spurs are just too good and for some reason Dyche does not know how to deal with both full backs making deep inverted runs. We were always gonna get cooked against Spurs. The Villa game was rough yes, but you can't really fault his gameplan. Countered to perfection to get 1-0 up. Set-piece for 2-0 but they're a UCL side for a reason. You don't expect them to give up and you can't be that mad if you lose to a goal like the one Duran scored. The team defensively got cooked as soon as Mykolenko got injured and you have a senior citizen playing full back on his weak side and a technical albeit slow CM playing RB. The main issue is the lack of depth, particularly defensively. We only have one real LB and RB. I love Seamus to death but I'm sorry the man's past it. Patterson is better but can't stay fit to save his life. Mykolenko has improved tremendously under Dyche but is also succeptible to injury. Our second choice LB is 39 year old Ashley Young. We have no backups. We would have finished 12th on points earned last season with the 4th best defensive record in the league. That's in large part due to the core of Branthwaite, Pickford and Tarkowski. Micheal Keane is a mid table Championship player. I never want to see him start for my club ever again, but Dyche loves him. I don't know why. We let Godfrey go for cheap to Atalanta when he was the only defender we had that could cover across the back four. O'Brien looks good and surprisingly agile for someone so big, but as long as Keane plays, we're always starting a goal down. He's always going to give away a minimum of 1 goal. Losing Onana wasn't as big of a deal as most made it out to be. Ask most Everton fans and they'll tell you that he didn't adapt to the Dyche system and Garner is a better fit and would have started the season if he wasn't coming back from injury. Ireogbunam has been stupendous. I didn't know much about him prior to the start of the season but we royally screwed Villa when we essentially traded Lewis Dobbin for him who's now loaned out at West Brom in the Championship. NDiaye has been an absolute gem. Wanted him last season and he has been an absolute joy to watch. I haven't been this excited about a wing prospect since Deulofeu (come back Gerry pls I beg). The switch also allows McNeil to play as a 10 which has been a good alteration as he doesn't have the pace or trickery to beat many full backs 1v1. Playing him as a 10 allows him to roam freely and he has been so much better than Doucoure in this role offensively and defensively. DCL just doesn't look like he wants to play for Everton anymore. I don't blame any club for not paying over the odds to sign him in the last window when they could get him for free at the end of this season. The worst part about it is as lacklustre as he's been Beto has been one of the worst signings we've had in the last decade and we suffered with Sandro, Cenk Tosun etc. He's looking like his namesake Man Utd flop. Chermiti is young. He needs 2-3 more seasons. Tldr: The team is defensively better than most people realise yet paper thin in squad depth. We have made good reinforcements despite having the 3rd lowest net expenditure. These results are not surprising given the sides we've played and the injuries. If you told us we'd get 2 points from the first 4 games at the start of the season I'd have bitten your hand off. I don't expect to beat Villa or Spurs. A draw against Bournemouth and Brighton would've been good results. It's not the end of the world given the context. The team is struggling but we started slow last season as well. When Branthwaite comes back, we'll perform better and finish comfortably clear of relegation. The promoted sides are not good enough and will go back down. Wolves are suffering and not a peep. Crystal Palace have fallen off from the Glasner hype train, not a peep. It's easy to hate Everton but let's take a step back and look at it objectively.

Our lack of it has been on show for a few years now. How do we change the fact that, as soon as we concede a goal, the entire club and its supporters (not just the players) KNOW that a collapse is coming? It feels like we are the architects of our own failure. Like some sort of manifesting of our own downfall. Inevitable failure seems to have become part of the clubs fabric. They honestly should be investigated for match fixing when they constantly play Jordan Prickford, perhaps the most error prone goalkeeper the division has ever seen in recent memory. Gets a free ride with the general dung level of Everton and his 'heroics' for England (which aren't even that impressive objectively but hyperinflated due to the English press and constant underachievement). Never seen a goalkeeper who can't organise his defence, command his area, has average/poor distribution, is constantly caught out of position and is suspect in the air due to his relatively small stature and arms for a goalkeeper be so overrated. If he wasn't English, he would have been hounded out of the country long ago. A few decent saves (due to the sheer volume of shots he faces) and his national team reputation seem to give him a toffee flavoured, excrement coloured bias by Evertonians. Look at his performance in the Bournemouth game when they lost the unlosable. Easily at fault for 2 of the goals conceded. And this happens multiple times a season. As a club, they are a chocolate log that have been circling the toilet bowl for a few seasons now but have been saved from being flushed down by the general rubbish coming up from the Championship. Honestly, they should go down. They need a reset and as a club, they offer nothing but embarrassment to the rest of the division (whether that be death threats to Rafa Benitez's family, fan's smuggling in knives into grounds, leaving matches en masse with 30 mins to go etc and that's before you start looking at the football on pitch!).

Reminds me of Hamburg. They were pretty, pretty bad for a couple of seasons, sliding ever further down the Bundesliga table year by year, but it was like they kept believing these were all glitches. A number of consecutive seasons they were in a relegation scrap, yet they insisted they were in fact still one of the big German clubs. Like, natural order would restore itself next season. They were the "Bundesliga-Dino" after all, the only club to have played every Bundesliga season since it's inception (Bayern were not given a spot in the first season because Munich already had 1860. They only got themselves promoted the next year). Hamburger SV were above being relegated, simple as that. Well, they weren't. And since they went down seven years ago, every season HSV fans will expect, no, demand promotion, and they always miss out and the coach who guided them to fourth place in the 2nd will be released. Which is actually pretty funny. Even hometown rivals St. Pauli made it past them last season, as did Northern rivals Holstein Kiel and I cannot help but grin.

yes its very painful being a bluenose recently. got a feeling the grand old lady is going to see us relegated in our last season in her.

Wow Z, the "little" stutters are, are are are- be-be-becoming like a cross between porky pig and woody Allen- 😅 has something happened ? Should I not be laughing ? Way to make yourself immitatable- Christopher walkening yourself if you will- they say it's the last step to stardom. You know you know- Everton won't die. They'll bounce back. Ps sunderland had an incredible start in the championship. And they're on a good trajectory now!

Sean Dykes loves battling relegation. It`s his thing. They will stay up by 1pt on the last day of the season.

At this point, relegation might be good for us to just reset. I'd rather that not be the case and us succeed but there just seems to be a lack of cohesion that was present in the Moyes and Martinez eras of the club, no one barring Ireogbunham seems to be putting in any effort.
@Alex58399Ай бұрын
Ipswich fan here saying that a reset worked for us but you need to sell up

I was at the Doncaster match too, was also there last night against Southampton.... Dyche is clueless. Taking Beto off for Ashley Young...... says how clueless he is. UTFT ETID ...

I like Dyche. I trust him to scrape out a relegation scrap. But I don't trust the squad as much, nor the club's board.

If they get relegated they'll go immediately into administration, no? I thought that without the premier league money they'd basically default on the stadium loan and the club would go away, I may have read that from someone talking out their hoop of course but that was very much the impression I got a year or so ago, and I can't imagine their situation has improved much since then.
@mnm1273Ай бұрын
Parachute payments might help the limp on a little, and they might have added relegation clauses to their contracts now. They'll certainly be in trouble, and they would need to get back promoted fast
