Tottenham’s hire of Ange Postecoglou caught a lot of fans by surprise, but in a refreshing change from the Premier League norm especially amongst the bigger clubs Tottenham is giving an opportunity to someone who has absolutely earned that chance based off of their performance in lower leagues.
Better yet, the vast majority of Ange’s work happened outside of Europe, a great example of how Premier League clubs can benefit from an outside perspective… if he succeeds. Ange is used to having people doubt him so I wouldn’t count him out, even if most people are saying that Postecoglou will be out of his depth, it’s not the first time.
Much Love,
The Zealand

An important thing to note about Ange's "failures" with the U20's Australian team is that in 2005, Australia brokered a move from Oceania to Asian Football Confederation. This made qualification to youth world cups much more difficult

Thanks for giving proper context to Ange's time in Brisbane, they were a joke before he took over, for obvious reasons. After he was done their squad became THE benchmark for any other title winning team in Australia, not just for winning, but for the style in which they did it. Anyone gets the time they should look up highlights of the grand final between the Mariners and Brisbane Zealand mentions, insane comeback and one of the best grand finals ever in the A-league.

Dont think the video quiet highlights the mess at Celtic when Ange first came in. We lost/sold 18 first team players, lost our long term CEO, Hired a new one before he also randomly left 2 months later. Lost the whole recruitment and scouting team and just finished the previous COVID season 25 points behind Rangers. Ange also got hired after the start of pre season, rocked up by himself with no backroom team and went on to win a double against a strong rangers team that got to the Europa league final. He played some of the best football i have seen in my 30 years of going to celtic Park. Phenomenal manager

You are absolutely right, I was lucky to follow Ange to Celtic like so many other Aussies and not at all surprised at the initial reaction and then the trajectory of the football team. You might be able to help me because I seem to recall one of early Ranges games came up when a few of the Celtic players including Tom Rogic were on international duty and a lot of people were upset that Ange didn't request a postponement that Celtic were entitled to. I'm not sure if I understood that correctly at the time but to me it was like the Brisbane Roar all over again and he seemed to be letting the star players know that they weren't indispensable and also the rest of the squad that he had faith in them an expected them to do the job. I'm sure Celtic won and I could have that all wrong but that was when I was sure Ange was on the way again and he would have the players and fans on board for the ride. Just like it did for me I've enjoyed it so much I think I'll be still following Celtic. PS. Mr Rogers looks ok too...HH from Aus

Ange did not look bad. I was 10 and watched this live. I was a huge fozzy fan at the time. Ange stuck to his guns and called out Australia for not supporting football like ange deemed necessary to compete at a high level. Ange was right. Ange conducts his teams similar to that of a 4-3-3 tiki taka style. Ange needs full control in this style of play. Kinda like pep. It’s pep way or it won’t work. Same with ange. It’s high intensity very meticulous way of playing, very strict rules. Although pep has changed slightly and is not as obsessive as before. But ange is at his peak and is obsessive and ange will compete with anyone given the right tools and support. Ange could go toe to toe with anyone and manage any player and any team in the world. Ange plays like any 2023 team should play. It’s no longer 2005.

Going back to the blow-up on air with Craig Forster, if you don't know the history of why we struggle at those youth tournaments it's easy to put the blame square on Ange. But it's no coincidence that as soon as our qualifying path changed from the easy Oceania route (where the Socceroos were a big fish in a small pond smashing island nations) to the much tougher Asian qualification route, our teams began to struggle to make the Youth World Cup. This points to the issue that not only are there many much tougher teams in the Asian confederation, but those countries also were investing heavily in youth, unlike Australia. The Young Socceroos weren't playing regular minutes in the lead up to the tournament and it was widely known that Australia's youth development pathways needed improving. You could have put the best coach in the world in charge of the young Socceroos back then and it's debatable whether they would have got better results

I just can’t wait to see him prove everyone else wrong once again. It seems that's the only way he knows how to play so I'm more excited by a guy with a clear style than if Spurs got in another big name coach who didn't want to be there and thought the fans should be lucky to pay for the most expensive tickets in England to try and nick a goal from a set-piece at home.

Just realised this the other week but when Stevie G was managing the Gers and Ange was managing Celtic they actually had encountered each other before that. Back in 2009 I believe it was, Stevie G was playing for Liverpool in a pre-season friendly in Melbourne against Melbourne Victory I think it was and the manager of the Victory was Ange.

Wasn’t blaming the players, was blaming the ideals of Aus soccer at the time where there was no plan for developing the youth team, it was all about qualification and who cared where the next generation of men’s team players came from. Craig Foster has come out since and apologised for the interview and being wrong, admitting Ange was right. Also, Australia winning the Asian Cup is so underrated, easily the biggest achievement in Australian Football history. For all the great performances the Socceroos have recorded in their history, the Asian Cup campaign under Ange is the crowning glory. Big underdogs, we played great football and won it playing the way Ange envisioned football. He is a born champion and leader of men.

Trying to explain to some of the Spur fans that they have the best coach to turn their club around is nearly as difficult as when Ange left the Australian Team just before the start of the World Cup. He is an enigma to the sport and your summary of Ange just goes to show how amazing his journey has been. It's excitement all the way. No shade of grey when playing Angeball. Can hardly wait to see what he will do with Tottenham Hotspur.

The big question mark for Ange is how he'll deal with Levy. Pochettino, Mourinho and Conte all wanted more control at Spurs, but found themselves constantly undermined by players going to Levy when things didn't go their way and signings being made that didn't suit the managers. Ange has clearly got his own ideas and knows players that will suit his system, but will Levy let him sell the deadwood or sign players who aren't big names?
@celticbarry9877
@celticbarry9877 11 ай бұрын
I think Mourinho and Conte especially are just terrible fits for Spurs, they are old school managers who want big players and to sneak wins and play defensively solid football. Ange plays open attacking football with very strict rules and is happy to give anyone a game as long as they play his way, even then if they aren't that good he'll sell and replace them no problem no matter who it is. Big players mean nothing to him.

@@vaffangool9196 Daniel Levy doesn't even know his lefts and rights, does he bollocks know that about Ange. Genuinely feel bad for Ange, he stayed at Celtic to win the domestic treble instead of taking any of the jobs he was linked with last season. Then the only one left was the biggest muppet club on the planet. He's unfortunately going to be sacked by christmas, through no fault of his own, so Daniel Levy can hire Kermit the frog with Elmo as assistant manager for the next 18 months before ultimately repeating the toxic cycle of being the biggest stain on the premier league. Genuinely would love them to go into Liquidation and i'm not even from London or support a London team, embarrassing club.

Great video, great summary, except the Australian public viewed Foster far worse than Ange shortly after that interview…particularly as he seemed to have a personal agenda against him…and wasn’t impartial with his assessment or commentary on Postecoglou’s performance/coaching.

Spurs and Ange seems like a perfect fit. The club is in between the big 5 who are used to consistent trophy success and the rest who are all trying to consistently make it into Europe. While Ange is constantly disregarded because of where he comes from while employing tactics that are on par with some of the very best itw. Hopefully it clicks and Spurs become fun to watch again

He's done even better to get the Spurs job - sixth choice, behind Tuchel, Nagelsmann, Kompany, Alonso and Slot. He's got a massive job ahead of him, to turn four years of anti-football into the style that Tottenham fans can fall in love with, again. But he's in good company. Martin Jol, Harry Redknapp and Mauricio Pochettino. None of them were Levy's first choices, either. Praying that Ange can go one better than them. If he's true to form, he will make us winners, then quit before Levy gives him the chop. At least he will have Scott Munn in his corner, who takes charge of all football matters the same day that Ange officially starts his job with us.

if you want to know more background story.. The chairman of Panachaiki FC in 2008 was a millionaire from Australia but with Greek roots and that how he brought postecoglou in Panachaiki. But in the next season the chairman resigned and the new chairman (most disgusting chairman in Greece) force Postecoglou to play other players than the Postecoglou wanted.. So that how Postecoglou resigned and came back to Australia. The rest is history. I can't believe that we had such a brilliant manager.. All the Panachaiki fans we are proud of Ange

Frank Farina was charged for drink driving not drunk driving, he did not rock up to training drunk, its a very very big difference. His blood alcohol level was slightly over the legal limit and that is nowhere near the level it would have been if he was drunk. Also that interview on the world game, he didn't back down, he was right and most managers would have been more 'diplomatic' but Ange didn't back down. Chelsea's biggest trouble right now is not scoring goals, seems to me that is the first thing Ange's teams get right.
