Details are on the wikipedia for Zeal & Ardor, but to summarize: Around a decade ago, Manuel Gagneux submitted his songs from his other band (Birdmask) to 4chan for unfiltered feedback. In that timeframe, he asked the anonymous users for ideas of esoteric musical combinations to practice his creativity. One of the suggested combos was "Death Metal" and "N****r music" (referring to tradition hymns and songs of slaves from the American south). He took the idea and thought: "What if slaves turned to worshiping Satan instead of God?" And now we have Zeal & Ardor.
