Zebco BIG CAT Combo Catch and Review! (NEW PB)

I tested out the Zebco Big Cat budget spinning combo over the course of the last couple months and did a little review of it at the end for anyone wondering about the quality of the combo. I put it through the elements and landed several catfish and turtles with it by the time I managed to get some footage I was happy with, so I definitely put it to the test.

Nice. I always oil my reels when they are new. Sometimes they come with very little lubrication. Regular maimtainance is always a great thing.

Yeah, I need to start maintaining my reels better, especially since I'm down south now & the saltwater is a lot more rough on them. I recently picked up an awesome little Okuma inshore combo & I'm loving both the rod & reel on that. Definitely planning to take better care of it than I have some of my other combos in the past

I had a Zebco bite alert combo,. I loved that combo, the Rod was great,. I am actually still using the Rod with a PENN Battle II 6000, but the Zebco reel that came with it did the same thing to me,. I caught a 30"'. Redfish with it and the gears stripped off from the main gear. but I still love the Rod...😊

Similar situation here! I'm still using the rod on occasion for bait fishing, but that reel got thrown in the trash once I was done making this video. If they made the reels with slightly stronger components it would be a great combo, but I guess you can't ask for too much out of a combo that costs less than $40.

I have a zebco 808 and a zebco boss hawg, both the spincast type (easier maintenance) both perform great, good review

Nice man! I never really use the spincasts but I know they're pretty popular. I've heard good things about the 808 too 👍

@@AllmouthBassing had mine for almost a year and it's still holding up, I'll use spincast for bait fishing, has the bite alert function, but still use spinning for lures and jigs

I have found that using a XL or L peg float about 8 inches from your bait stops the turtle bite. I seem to have more success with catching cats as well using that method.

I'm planning to go sturgeon fishing soon with the heavy big cat rod. Is this rod medium-heavy or heavy? Would you recommend for sturgeon?

Ahhh man, sorry I didn't see this comment til just now 🤦🏼‍♂️ I believe the one I have is a heavy. I don't know much about sturgeon fishing, but I can't see any reason this rod wouldn't hold up to a giant fish as long as you set your drag right. I'd use a different reel than the one the combo comes with though.

My zebco bigcat xt conventional reel was able to handle a 22lb flathead and its still working fine. Maybe the spinning reels were not made as durable.

Yeah, could be that they're not as good quality, or I might have even got unlucky & picked up a defective one. I'm glad yours is working well for you though!

is that the ozark trail rod holders?

I can't remember exactly which brand they are, but I believe most of those spiral rod holders are manufactured in the same factory with the same materials. They're great options for bank fishing with bait 👍

Thanks man! If you're after something in the $50ish range, I'd go for a Berkley Fusion spin combo. I'm 100% sure mine would still be going strong if I hadn't ran it over with my car 😂

@@AllmouthBassing, it happens. I closed the car door on my favorite rod awhile back. It slipped right as I was closing the door and broke the tip. Thanks for the advice. I’ll check out the Berkley Fusion.
