Hey guys, this week I'm just sharing my little unboxing video that I filmed 4 years ago. I'm sure there are some people who are still waiting for their helmets, or probably won't even get them. These are just some tips for people who are considering commissioning new props. If you want to buy 2nd hand props, make sure to ask for close up photos, or even better, video of the used prop to make sure you know what you are actually buying. Good luck!

The best thing is that the toy/collector community is absolutely the best community out there (honestly no joke). They always want the best for other collectors so people with low quality stuff like this & scammers don’t stick around long.

I like fixing Toy Story toys because they are life-size and I can make them look like what they were in the movie. If it's just a scaled down version of a character from a movie, I'd like stick to 1/6 scale, and that unfortunately limits me to characters with figures already available in the market because I still can't sew an outfit from scratch ):

I paint my helmets myself after getting the unpainted version online. Not great, but I can't blame anyone else since it's all my work.

Yeah, I've seen your guide to painting them on Eric0101 FB page. I've also tried it myself, but with cutting and visors with clasps/magnets. Took me 3 months to make one I think, not worth the time honestly. I'd rather pay a professional to do it, just took some time and money wasted before finding the right one.

@@zedabyu I see! Mine have a lot of flaws but they're hidden behind my display shelf so I can accept them. But you're right, if you want one that's good for cosplay or close up display, you'll have to get a professional to do it up.

I just came across this video. I had some good and some bad experiences over the years myself. Aniki started his then turned sour. Eric0101 advertised a yellow ranger and it showed up orange. Recently UprisingFX and Henshin Cosplay USA sold me a screen cast green ranger unfinished and they cut up the back like Aniki does on his and it looks terrible. So just lost that money. It's sad there's so many bad makers.

That's rough, a really expensive mistake but you have hopefully helped others when they make purchases. Glad you swapped them out

I had a similar experience with a helmet maker back in like 2009. Helmet I got was utter trash, but a lot other people that ordered from him never even got a helmet. Awful feeling. Love your current ranger set up though, the helmet plus the morphers and your unmasked 1/6th Rangers are to die for. I am 100% gonna get at least Billy and Kim from you someday, if you ever offer head sculpts for sale. I am curious--why did you root Trini's hair but not Kim's? Also, yes, please share the marker of the good helmets you got, especially that inexpensive Pink!

Thanks for the comment! Those morphers are just resin casts that I painted with label stickers. Trini was just a wig that I bought and tried to force fit with the head, didn't go as well as I hoped. I feel that Kim's hair would be harder to find a wig for since it's quite a 90s iconic hairstyle. But now that I have learnt rooting, I might try rooting for her after fixing her sculpt. The pink helmet was from Aniki Cosplay actually, but I wouldn't recommend it even though the quality is top-notch, because their timeframe is really unreliably long. So just buy a 2nd hand one if you can find anyone letting it go.

@@zedabyu Thanks for the answer! My Blue Ranger helmet is from Aniki and it was very nice. But I wouldn't call it cheap, for sure! I definitely waited a long time for it, but it was worth it. And I did it a long time ago, so at least there is that. Someday it would be cool to have the rest, (and to replace my super crappy White Ranger helmet) so I guess I should keep an eye out. I like the Trini wig, but I think you could definitely do rooted hair for both the women and make it look FIRE.

Ya, thats why i collect the official helmet from bandia and the lightning edition ... I only have one helmet thats made by a private company and its the pink rangers helmets....nothing is wrong with it .. even looks better tha the lightning pink ranger edition ... i mainly buy the official helmet longevity and purely for resale values in the distance future that i hopes never comes. Those non official helmets used cheap paint and over time things get chipped or the paint just simply start to crack .. Those of official helmit are better quality And mainly mad of plastic . Still waiting for the official yellow and black rangers helmit ...thats the fun in it also waiting for it to be released and the first to get it at the best price until it the price sky rocker a year later lol

@@bryannieto6584 Yea that's the nature of Rotocasting, especially with fiberglass resin for further reinforcing. The smell won't be pleasant either. But as long as helmet surface is good, I'd call it a win.

Oh damn, so sorry that happened to you. I might really be one of the luckier ones to get all 6 before he ran off. I was very persistent though, pestering him every single week. Giving excuses that I needed them for a con, and I'll do a review for him, etc. That might have incentivized him to prioritize my order. Again, I hope you didn't lose too much money.

Man, that was rough. Clearly, that maker did not do the paint justice. I will have to remember this when I make my helmet again. I didn't do a great job on the paint. I need to find some tips to avoid orange peel.

I did try painting 2 helmets after getting impatient with my orders with another propmaker. All I can say is, RESPECT to the propmakers who can do it well. I took a month to make one. And it still sucked lol. There are so many things to take note of when making a helmet, and it's really unforgiving when it comes to making mistakes. So I probably won't make my own any time soon. I'm glad you are still making your own, I'm sure the sense of achievement is beyond words.

Thank you. It was 4 years ago so I have gotten over it. At least I wasn't one of the 60+ people who didn't even receive a single thing, so I did get about 50% of the money back selling them away to people who didn't mind those flaws.

Got them mostly from Aniki Cosplay and WildRanger5. If you go for Aniki, you should purchase through their etsy shop because it seems like they prioritize those orders (and also charge a little more). WildRanger5 has the best MMPR helmets, so I got my Green & Yellow from him, but his paint jobs aren't the smoothest, and timeframe are pretty long.

@@zedabyu I bought an Aniki red ranger helmet not from aniki but someone who bought it from them. Will receive it in a couple of days. And I'm also considering wildranger5 for a green ranger one. He quoted me $500 shipped and it will take around 8 months to complete. Was that how long you had to wait?

I have not been ordering helmets for a long time so I wouldn't know who is the best in the market right now. Timeframe is something I cannot guarantee so I can only speak from the quality side of things. Aniki has the best quality in my opinion while Wildranger5 has the best accuracy.

Quality-wise, I'd go Aniki cosplay, but their timeframe is a mess right now so I wouldn't recommend them. Accuracy wise, Wildranger5 has the most accurate casts for MMPR so my Green, White, Yellow & Blue are from him. He is a one man team so he does take quite long as well to fulfill an order (about a year or so). His quality does fluctuate sometimes, my Blue was horrendous and I had to fix it myself. The rest have minor flaws but acceptable.
