They say in the manual that if you use both channels then rhe sampling frequency it's half. I also think that turning off the function generator will prevent interfering with the measurements. It seems that yours was on during the test as it shows the square wave in the bottom right corner.

HI, that happens in every oscilloscope. For example my Rigol MSO2102A has 2GSa/s on one channel and 1GSa/e if you're using both channels. The same happens for my awesome Micsig STO1004 has 1GSa/s on 1 channel, 500MSa/s when using on 2 channels and 250MSa/s if using 3 or 4 channels. I hope that helped to clarify the part of the sampling rate, normally the maximum sampling rate is only for 1 channel. The part of the function generator I didn't know, so I might do some videos in the future to see if that confirms, thanks for the tip, I'll check that out in a future video. Thanks for watching!

Nice review! While I don't think this instrument reaches the promised bandwidth, the manual specifies that for >100Mhz you need to run the oscilloscope in "overclock" mode, which is activated from the" Aux" menu by holding the "UP" key (it can be disabled similarly, with the DOWN) button. That makes the oscilloscope somewhat able to sample the signal, but the attenuation remains pretty bad. Enabling the second channel effectively halves the bandwidth because the sample rate is shared. Having said that, oscilloscopes of this size normally don't have such a high bandwidth to begin with. Let alone with 2 channels plus function generator and TV output. Considering the features and price, the usable bandwidth (even if not as advertised) is pretty good.

That said, this doesn't mean that the specs will be 100% met, but, comparing the all bunch, is one of the best. Thanks for watching.

@@TechCornerTV Hi I am sorry. In the mean time I found something, which looks promising because not only 180MHz is advertised, but also have seen very good reviews from the brand. I want something to get me covered for the most amount of applications, special arduino troubleshooting and prototyping. It's twice as expensive, but it seems to cover everything I want and looks like a good candidate for me to relearning how to use an oscilloscope (it's been 20 years). @@tinkerman-q It always depends on what you want to pay and what you need. The more you pay, the more you get (hopefully). The FNIRSI DPOX180H simply costs $50 to $60 more than the DSO2512G. That's quite a difference in this price range. Personally, I would hold off on the DPOX180H. It is brand new, there is no test above 100MHz yet afaik and a few firmware bugs are already known.
@tinkerman-q Жыл бұрын
@@paolotestarelli2768 Really appreciate your reply, thanks for that. I am looking for a the best cost/benefit solution and that is still not prohibitively expensive (for me). The price of DPOX180H (at face value) seems to bring the best bang for the buck and it is on the limit I am willing to pay. I don't mind bugs now, as long as I can patch them later. However, I do agree that I may not be the best candidate for early adoption, but I do want something sooner rather than later, and I do not want to buy any other oscilloscope for the foreseeable future. What attracted my attention to it was: 1 - High range (although I don't have independent validation, they seem to deliver what they promise) 2 - Portable 3 - Dual channel 4 - Signal generation Spec-wise my only point of attention, which I am not savvy enough to determine, is whether the sampling rate may be too low. I suspect it may be the case. Nevertheless, I appreciate your recommendation and will not buy this one yet. So I either wait more (which I hope not too long) or I manage to find something that fulfill my requirements above and is a safer alternate at similar price range.

A volt meter I don't think will cut it. I am hoping I made the right choice and some of your testing cast a shadow of doubt on this purchase. Professionals, usually spend a few more bucks for something more reliable. For that kind of audience (hobbyist and students) this device is interesting. Owon, for me starts to be more professional. it doesn't have any special functions for cars, but if for some reason you needed an oscilloscope to use on your car it would be convenient. one of those bluetooth modules that plug into your car diagnostic port + a phone app has been helpful to me for telling me what part on a car is broken. i read the cheapest of those are not good though

Hi loving the videos, I’m in the market for a small oscilloscope and wondered what you consider to be the best value for money to get me started, I’m looking to spend up to about £150 here in the uk, many thanks in advance.
@TechCornerTV Жыл бұрын
Hi, the answer is always "depends" 😁 but if you're on the small and mobile, I'll choose the Zeeweii DSO2512G 2-ch (120Mhz) for a more accessible price oscilloscope or the Owon HDS272S (70Mhz), you have this Owon up to 200Mhz but it will not fit on you budget. In terns of bench oscilloscope, you don't have much choice, FNIRSI 1014D is basically your option, if you squeeze some more bucks you can go to Owon SDS1102, a better device. Thanks for watching!

Hi, device has 500msps / 2 channels = 250msps . So for 50mhz signal it has only 5 points. And because of frequency deviation you've see an amplitude modulation. IT IS OK due to physics)) There is other problem with real bandwidth, signal level is decreasing after 5Mhz .
@TechCornerTV2 жыл бұрын
Hi Alexander, yes it was to be expected some deformation on the waveform, because of its limitations... even so, it went a bit bezerk! But I do still the bigger problem of this device is the lack of support. Aliexpress gives you 15 days to open a case, after that you're on your own... and that's a pitty, because I do think those oscilloscopes (DSO1511G and DSO2512G) are above the rest of the competition on their price range, in everything! Event if the 120Mhz announced bandwidth is lower in reality. Thanks for watching! 👍

Generally, i've ordered this device after your video, looks like that is very chip but it's problems and limitations are acceptable for 79$ price.

Since it gives aliasing artifacts at 50 MHz with 2 channels it seems to be 100 Mega samples per second for each channel, (maybe only 50?). 500 Msamples per second is false marketing.

I recently bought this exact thing off Amazon (very quick shipping). The only reason is to measure the speed of light, using a couple detectors + laser. I'm still waiting for loads of detectors & an IR laser to arrive, but I've got a couple LDRs set up. I can't yet rule out a speed of like 2*10⁶ m/s (2000 km/s). It is much faster than I thought (I was thinking as low as 8 km/s). I can set up a 23m path difference but haven't done it yet because I'm not sure exactly what circuit will give the best possible signal (after triggering, etc). I've never seen actual evidence that light is electromagnetic - ppl just assume it is since it should have a similar speed to radio. Optical fibers conduct ultrasound, light & EM - supposedly the whole internet uses IR but that seems unlikely to me.

Where is a bandwidth test with a square wave? I need a square wave test.
@paolotestarelli2768 Жыл бұрын
You can distinguish a square wave from a sine wave up to about 40MHz in single-channel overclocking mode with appropriate probes.
@TechCornerTV Жыл бұрын
Hi! To test the maximum of the oscilloscope you cannot do it with a square wave, that's why is usually "forgot" in this tests. The only wave that will go to the maximum bandwidth of the oscilloscope, is the sine wave and that's why is commonly used in these tests. I will pay more attention to show better the square wave in the future. Thanks for watching!

@@TechCornerTV Hello! Everything that you said is absolutely obvious to a person who has extensive experience in using oscilloscopes. At the same time, it is almost incomprehensible to a beginner who chooses his first oscilloscope for purchase. Of course, I understand that the shape of the signal displayed on the screen will directly depend on the number of its odd harmonic, which the analog circuit of the oscilloscope can let in. But I still want to see at what frequency the meander in this oscilloscope becomes indistinguishable from a sinusoid. Thank you.🤗

@@paolotestarelli2768 Hi. I ordered my DSO on Ali a few days ago. There was a good discounts and it cost me less then $70. When it comes, I will experiment. In the meantime, I have no idea what quality his probes are. I hope they are at least not much worse than my chip P6100 probes.🙂
@paolotestarelli2768 Жыл бұрын
@@ВасилийТёркин-г3мThe device comes with two P6100, which is OK for the price. However, it is also clear that 100MHz probes are not sufficient to test the limits of a 120MHz oscilloscope. By definition, 100MHz probes already have -3dB at 100MHz. I ordered a 250MHz probe for this reason.This also makes a difference with a 40MHz square-wave signal, which can hardly be distinguished from a sine wave with the standard probes. A ground spring can also be helpful.
