In this video I'm going to explain what drive train malfunction is and how to actually address it. For this particular car and issue at hand Vanos solenoid is causing an issue and I'll walk you through the process of replacing it.
Vanos solenoid part number 11 36 8 605 123 (Febi used in this video) also good brands are Pierburg and of course Genuine BMW
Oxygen sensor before catalytic converter part number 11 78 7 576 673 (Bosch OEM)

Most VANOS DTC's are caused by oil condition, so keep atention to service time. Some engines have check valves and some have the filter on the solenoid itself, some preventive maintenance would be to clean them. BimmerN53

Cleaning doesn’t work long term in most cases, but you are right frequent oil changes prevent this issue most of the time👍

Man you make that look easy... I need to replace my vanos as well, they threw a code when I was in cold temperatures after getting my engine rebuilt by Pure Performance of Houston( awesome job) but I will definitely use your vid when I do the car which is an X6M. Happy to help, if follow the instruction it’s not that hard😉 the hardest part is removal and installation of air cooler, those 3 bolts are pain in the butt😁

Man what a pain it looks to get to 😹, glad its so easy on the n52 haha. I agree on the scan tool, its a must need for proper direction and diagnostic on what to repair otherwise will be chasing the issue like a headless chicken 😹. Great job Tim, keep it up brother 👍🏼

Hello Tim, nice work. I have the same but 2011 X5 XDrive50i. I’m trying to pass the California Smog but the FUE, CAT, O2S, and EVAP are not complete despite conducting the BMW drive cycle. Do you have any ideas or suggestions on what to do? Thank you.

So i have this x5 50i changed vanos (cheap ones) but now it runs good but now i have codes for throttle studders when you touch the peddle..codes says throttle out of sync..

hey i own a few BMWs and one i really can't figure out is my 335i, fantastic car with low miles, my issue is a crazy dash going nuts.. all the lights come on and my radio blinks off and on then it goes back to normal..any idea??? also my tpms won't work either..

Check alternator might be overcharging, definitely something with voltage supply

Hi I have a 2012 x5 50i and it's showing a p00018 camshaft position sensor code,I change the sensor and engine light still on with reduced power any ideas. Thanks love your videos

@fredsaucier first of all get a better scanner p-codes are far from being specific and accurate for bmws. Camshaft position sensor has nothing to do with it usually, it’s possible you have an issue with vanos solenoid or vanos itself not functioning properly
