DESCRIPTION
The Zelda Timeline debate has captured the imagination of fans since Nintendo green-lit a sequel to the smash hit “The Legend of Zelda”, and has only become more complicated with every new entry. With every new adventure, players found themselves in a world that feels familiar yet somehow different, with recurring themes and tropes adding fuel to the connections between the events from one to the next.
But with Breath of the Wild and the most recent title, Tears of the Kingdom, many have been left unfulfilled by the disconnect in the lore, with many considering the newer games to be a retcon of past titles, or a reboot of the franchise entirely, a view associated with disappointment in Nintendo in failing to adequately explain the glaring gaps and questions raised by the inclusion of aspects that hint at all previous timelines and branches, yet confirming no details as to how this could even be possible. Adding to the frustration is the absence of the Triforce, a pivotal icon within the series that has sparing references in the environment, yet appears to be forgotten almost akin to the adventures of the past.
Today’s theory is an accumulation of my recent theories and aims to address how Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom can exist with the series holistically and tackling the logic behind how it all comes together. documented Parallel worlds within Zelda Lore, real-world scientific understanding of extra-dimensional applications and perspectives of time and space in how we interpret the world around us provides the basis for a “Zelda-Verse”, which has more than a passing amount of evidence to suggest the move is intentional and referenced thoroughly in the games and lore published by Nintendo.
We’ll touch on the many worlds of the zelda-verse, how nintendo have been creating links across dimensions, and specificalluy referencing gameplay, symbolism & more. Pointing to multiverse exploration mechanisms, Zonai devices and abilities including how they are used to manipulate the very fabric reality and space/time, echoes of past titles, the role of artifacts, Tetraforce theory applications, the Bargainer and finally restoration and balance. Looking forward, we'll touch on the interview with Eiji Aonuma and Hidemaro Fujibayashi, and how a universal approach to the future of the Zelda series provides opportunities.

And in regard to the theory, the depths are void. They are the space between dimensions, the rift between worlds, chasms are your connectors for totk with other games having other connectors, dark world portals, Lorule rifts, twilight mirror and twilight zones, and so many more. The depths are the space between space, the place where canon is disrupted, and all happens together all at once. It's part of the reason why blood moons never happen when Link is in the depths. I definitely think BotW and TotK is in its own parallel Reality Timeline. Basically the events in the OG timeline still occur in this new timeline however since its not the same, but a ALTERNATE PARALLEL REALITY TIMELINE it results in branching parallel realities where the same events occur differently, or not at all. Which we kind of see this in TotK, as the events of Ocarina play out but somewhat different. In the old Timeline we see a few alternate realities or parallel worlds like Termina and Lorule. we know parallel worlds exist. we know alternate ones exist. we also know the timeline can split and have 3 of em as a result. So if there's Timelines that we can see, what about the ones we don't see? And remember they said : "As is our custom, where does "Tears of the Kingdom" fit in the timeline of "The Legend of Zelda"? The "Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword" depicted the originator and "Breath of the Wild" depicted the end, but "Tears of the Kingdom" is a sequel to "Breath of the Wild" but also tells the story of the founding of Hyrule, so I wonder if it could be the originator... .......... Fujibayashi: It is definitely a story after "Breath of the Wild". And basically, the "Legend of Zelda" series is designed to have a story and world that doesn't break down. That is all I can say at this point. With the assumption that the story will not break down, there is room for the fans to think, "So that means there are other possibilities? I think there is room for fans to think about various possibilities. If I am speaking only as a possibility, there is the possibility that the story of the founding of Hyrule may have a history of destruction before the founding of the Kingdom of Hyrule. I don't make things in a random way, like "wouldn't it be interesting if we did this here? So I hope you will enjoy it by imagining the parts of the story that have not yet been told." Meaning that all the other games are still canon. Is Windwaker still canon even though Twilight Princess is Canon as well yet each game are in 2 separate Timelines? " I think there is room for fans to think about various possibilities. If I am speaking only as a possibility " He even mentions there are various possibilities that could have happened? So why not it all be in 1 big merged timeline split off from somewhere during or somwhere directly after Skyward Swords Events happen. Where Ocarina of Times Events are altered, like Instead of the course of 7 years, its over many hundreds and thousands of years. Instead of Link traveling through time its Zelda. Theres a lot of evidence pointing to this. Also we can use what we learned from the old games to learn Ganondorfs motives for TotKs Events. WW Ganondorf we see he wants to save his people. Gerudo Desert is a harsh enviroment to live in, so he wanted to take over hyrule for his people. When he acquires the Secret Stone tho it taps into Demise and his whole "Hate Humanity" so he turns against even his own people. Basically this TotK Ganondorf is similiar to how the adult and child timeline both have the "Same" Ganondorf. Also i know who the Fortune Teller is. Its Zelda. She traveled back in time. With a piece of Sheikah Tech even. Probably tells Rauru and Mineru and Sonia about the events of BotW, the calamity, etc. So the Anicent Hero Aspect probably has the quest of building the shiekah shrines and divine beasts to help seal ganon, then bury it to hide it from ganon to re use it in BotW. and she had a ancient hylian chambermaid. Im sure she told a lot of what happened, from the sheikah tech, calamity ganon, the ancient story from 10,000 years ago, the fact ganon took over the mechs. Wouldnt be surprised if thats why the tech vanished. If i recall no one mentions when the fortune teller told them. it could been a thing passed down through the ages, sure but the reason why (if thats the case, being passed down) all started with Zelda. Hell she showed Mineru the Purah Pad. which is Sheikah Tech. So yeah workin on a few videos myself bout Ganondorfs whole deal (and what that evil tree is) and how Zelda is the Fortune Teller lol So glad that freecam came out for the game lol And i love seeing all these different theories! I honestly cannot wait for the TotK "Creating a champion" book to see more lore, and in depth stuff bout the game! Great video!

I don't really disagree, in fact what I'm kind of implying is the same sort of thing, rigging off the theories done to date. If we follow the spiral like golden ratio pattern and a 4-d view of time/space and how each iteration causes a cycle that inevitably contains the sum of all it's parts, then the extension will be iterative by definition. Agree, everything is cannon and does exist, but the actions of TOTK changing the fabric of reality from the ancient past and present (future) cause an iteration that defines the beginning of the new cycle - one in which we can understand how the legends prior to SS came into being and how the reality of that cycle will be an extension of the timelines we've seen in the past, albeit with the "X Factor" of potential change due to the iterative nature of a multiverse or parralell worls setup. Funnily enough, the theoretical application of parrallel worlds and their execution of time and space is one that forms an arc of sorts, meaning eventually there should be some sort of overlap where they cross over, reinforcing the "theoretical" opportunity for worlds to collide. It's very exciting and nuanced in perfect harmony with the source material, and for what it's worth, it's my head cannon, but still theory, so no doubt some will disagree and that's fine. Hence the caveat for imagination remains one of my favourite observations the Dev team choose to maintain - it's clever in ensuring no one theory is correct, and the community can maintain their viewpoints and respectful discussions, elaborating on the source material and enhancing the experience. It may be your head canon but ive learned if theres way to many similarities to be a coincidence, then its prolly not. @_7thSage-9405 well believe it or not, majority of the videos are part of an overall theory arc, building the foundation for some of the more lofty concepts but trying to also make them open for interpretation and without steering too much. It’s funny in that I’ve tried explaining the whole thing a few times, and a bit like a long story, you need to provide context and details for later callbacks to make sense etc. That said, it’s coming together slowly albeit at a snails pace as I do this in my spare time, but I’m looking forward to sharing the next few sections to really challenge the puzzle of the series in unique ways. A few are old term mysteries and some long forgotten callbacks that really show a greater plan - but trying to keep that sense of open interpretation is a fine line so scripting often gets rewrites if I start putting it together and realise it’s less collaborative and more directive. As always I look forward to sharing the finds and views if not for anything else than the love of a shared passion amongst fellow fans 💚💫

I've been saying that eversince fans have been asking Nintendo to come out with an official timeline (and they did in the end because who would reject potential money there?) I always see that The Legend of Zelda series as a folktales that were told and affected by different cultures, places and time that it were told in. That's why each one of them are similar but told in different way.

Sadly though Nintendo did do some stuff in cannon where I wished they used fan ideas instead but what everybody forgets is how demise specifically curses all Zelda and link by cursing descendants. If all Zeldas were random then demises curse would mean nothing and until Nintendo says they delete that it means all games are linked but yes it is diff cultures retelling because zonai are years in future and dragons aren't goddesses

Mention quantum physics and Minkowski space time in a Zelda theory video and I feel like you are speaking directly to me (which is perfect bc been missing your voice in the YT live over here :). Amazing work with this idea. Going at the speed of light, time dilation would freeze the passage of time. Going faster than the speed of light, time would theoretically reverse and since Zelda has both light and time capabilities (that were further enhanced in TOTK with contact of the secret stone) she can travel back in time and the previously deterministic universe unfolds into infinite possibilities for future Zelda games

I’ve had similar thoughts about Link and Ganon funnily enough with some supporting evidence but that one is certainly a different spin. My tinfoil hat theory here is that the "Convergence" could be similar to the plot of Xenoblade Chronicles 3. In that game, the setting is created by the merging of the worlds of Xenoblade 1 and 2. In this case, the worlds of Twilight Princess and The Wind Waker merged into each other and rebooted history itself, creating the Hyrule of Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom. But that's if you want to create an in-story explanation for all the varied references. The way the developers view it is similar to the different interpretations of superheroes like Batman and Spider-Man. Media based on these characters take aspects from different stories spanning back decades and combines them into something unique. So we can assume that there was a war between Hylia and Demise in the mythology of Tears of the Kingdom the same way every Batman originates from his parents being killed.

half way through the video so i don't know if your gonna say this but I just thought of demise when he cursed the world or worlds, so it could mean that every style in the Zelda franchise is just another world but thats just my thoughts right now

I didn't reference that specifically, but you have to believe it was amongst the hour + amount of details I cut down to make this video a reasonable length. The first cut was sooo long and I realised it was borderline torture, so deciced to hit the main beats and add any details if anyone is interested in future. That reference, with Demise, is a great one though, and totally understand that take, and it formed part of where I wanted to go with the the ripple/butterfly effect of key moments which gets really cool when you follow them. I reckon there is more planned in Nintendo's approach here, and we might very well look back in 5-10 years and realise this was part of a staging and incorporation of details that builds longer-term, but even if not, I truly believe that us fans are actively helping to shape the series with our love of the material, lore and content, so who knows what might come into play. Either way, I'm looking forward to many more years of sharing those cool ideas with mates just you Mystery. Doesn't get much better than that 💚💚🌟🌟

Nintendo already officially confirmed half a decade ago that BotW represents all the timelines converging back into one and the story rebooting. Not really sure what the point of all these timeline theories is at this point.

@@gamesmiths in an interview like 5 years ago, pretty sure you even have a very short clip of it in your video, it's possible that depending on where you watched it at there could be some translation issues that can change meanings of what was said, but they definitely say what I said

Translation issue may be impacting then as I know it’s been stated clearly it’s at the end of all 3 timelines but a merging or convergence was never stated. Also at the end of creating a champion (masterworks) Aonuma clearly states they made the decision to not advise the placement to allow player imagination to guide the experience based on the observations of play testers and this was re emphasised in the most recent interview. I’m learning Japanese myself currently to ensure I can translate better ongoing but im still very new to the language but I can appreciate how those translation issues can change meaning. My 7 heroines theory was based on such a case and was proven correct with TOTK. Thanks for coming back to me with that so I know where to look. Dealing with a personal loss currently so won’t be immediate, but I’ll definitely review it. All the best

It doesn't need to be a universe, did anybody ever read a swiftly tilting planet? When they call every possibility a might have been and Charles Wallace stops a war by going into a war generals ancestor? Times not linear 3 plus timelines can exist together, maybe breath and tears are so far in future hylia fixed a timeline. Plus it's already cannon each Zelda is hylia bloodline but what if actual hylia hops into another in her own bloodline? I'm against universe theory because demise curse specifically saying link and zelda descendents when he hates all humans and there's only 1 hylia

Zelda´s time travel in Totk don´t change anything because it is a casual loop, the secret stones don´t harness anything they only enhances one aspect of the user, the past in Totk aren´t before the split in Oot it is after one of the splits, the logo isn´t an Ouroboros so stop spreading this misinformation, the tetra-force have been debunked numerous times by Nintendo and the bargainer statue deity has a 0.1% chance to be older than the Tri-force.

I know Aonuma said the Sheikah tech(Guardians, etc.h just disappeared after BOTW b/c they werent needed ne more 😢 Thats a very lazy explanation Especially considering that Zelda’s travel to the past of Hyrule’s founding and being stuck for 10,000 years as a dragon was an actual explanation for the erasure of the tech They had a chance to eradicate the champion timeline for the sages and they passed it up 😢😢 So sad to see a “Discontinuation” of continuity in this revision of Zelda As for me Aonuma better deliver on the next Zelda Cuz there was a tom of missed opportunities in both BOTW and TOTK💯

Well, on that, if we appplied this take - whereby the actions of opposing forces typical in Zelda duality (e.g. past & present), then technically, Fujibayashi's statement holds true and makes complete sense. The actions happening in TOTK have effectively changed the past and present in real time creating a variance in the fabric of reality - but in my mind anyway, that doesn't mean it's now erased from history because it had to happen in order for Zelda to travel back...so its all valid and real. If it helps, and what that does mean (again, speaking personally), is that there does then provide the possibility of a reality that either exists or could occur whreby the events leading up to BOTW (folr example, the ancient past) play out differently again. In fact, I'm rather convinced this is the best outcome for all fans alike in that nothing is retconned, everything is connected, and possibilities remain for all perspectives on the many connections and mysteries specualted and loved for over 35+ years. I'll leave you with an interestng thought that has me curious that noone seems to talk about, or at least I havent heard it...in TOTK, when Zelda travels back...there is no Shiekah, nor a version of the hero...which is odd if you think about it. If you go by the implied logic of the spirit of the Hero and the Bloodline of the Goddess either intimately connected or cursed to be bound to the incarnation of evil (in TOTK ancient past, Ganondorf), then I get why there might not be a Zelda, because inherently she travels back...but what about the spirit of the Hero...To my knowledge, Wind Waker is one of the only situations explaining an absence which is because of the Hero of Time being sent back to his childhood. Even then, a new Hero arises eventually... But in TOTK, we have Zelda...and the Sages...2 Zonai weirdly...but no mention of the spirit of the Hero, nor any legends of the sort...not even arising in the memories with Rauru and Sonia nor the sky writings...nothing. Skyward Sword version of Kaepora/Rauru passes on the tales of the Goddess' chosen knight to Link in that game, so if this was after that, how is there no representation of the Hero to the point Rauru must sacrifice himself and set in motion an ongoing Calamity of future malice/gloom and general badness. It makes me wonder if we are considering the placement of this game all wrong...and missinbg the hints provided by Aonuma and Fujibayashi... There was a time before Demise, and before the events of Skyward Sword too we know very little about, and that's without the potential of what occurred in other realms, like Lorule for example, that led to the destruction of that Triforce before ALBW. I guess I'm suggesting that not all is as it appears, and based on some stuff I've been looking into for quite a while and still slowly putting into theory videos, I think there is definitely a planned tapestry that very much requires the existing timelines/older titles and established legends becuase it forms part of a larger Legend that we've only seen a portion of, and whilst I can't say currently what I'm referring to without giving away the larger theory arc I'm on now, I can say there is hardly any discussion or evidence I can find of anyone looking into this very compelling connection that has been explicitly spelled out since 2011 in various games, books etc and TOTK very much substaniated for me that I'm on track with what I'm looking into based on how some of the predictions have played out. If not, it would be one huge set of coincidences that would defy probabilities and suggests there is a larger plan in play and has been for some time. It doesn't answer all the specifics or details, and gameplay mechanics etc can cause some disconnect for nitpicking, but the general movement and progression matches what I've been tracking since BOTW. It's a way of tackling the lore to satiate all fans as best as possible, and means we can still imagine or consider how these games connect for us personally, but also continue to be amazed when new games come out showing forethought over decades of titles. So keep that positive view, and theorise without worrying about naysaying, because true courage is believing in the impossible. And I guarantee, the next game will be even better, and will blow more minds than either BOTW or TOTK. Zelda will continue to revolutionise gaming and what we think we know about interactive fictional adventures as we continue to provide the metaphorical "Link" between our world and Hyrule.
