BOTW was also my first Switch gaming experience which, I feel, added to the wow experience. Being able to play a game like BOTW on the go was a pipe dream up until that point in time. I remember being blown away by the game and system.

Tears of the Kingdom will sell quicker than Breath of the Wild but will sell fewer copies in total on Switch. (That is nothing to do with the perceived relative quality of the titles but entirely due to the point in the Switch’s lifetime that they released).

Also gotta remember that when BOTW came out, there was no competition. There was a statistic for a bit that almost every switch owner owned Breath of the Wild. There were unit shortages when you could only play stardew valley, Zelda, and Mario Kart 8. I honestly do think this will outsell BOTW, however that is something to keep in mind. Also breath of the wild was on Wii U so idk if those were just switch figures, but it may be another key factor to think about.

Depends on how Nintendo plays their cards... I could definitely see a possibility that the next console does indeed come out next year and it potentially not being backwards compatible because apparently the Tegra architecture that the Switch currently uses is evidently hard to make backwards compatable software with the newer Tegra chip that the next console will likely be using... If that does end up being the case and the console isn't backwards compatible I could see ToK being ported over which could cause a big double dipping effect

I'm personally a bit concerned with it being a little too complex. BOTW, being the first in this iteration, had an elegant simplicity about its mechanics. Since they need to avoid it being seen as just a DLC, I'm worried it'll go too far to the point where it's overwhelming or not cohesive. On the other hand, Nintendo are the masters of balancing gameplay. We'll see I guess.

So, I got BotW since it was my only option for a triple AAA title for the Switch. I got my Switch a month after it was released, but I also thought it was fantastic. This wound up being my favorite Zelda game and one of my favorite Switch games in general. I should even say, this is the first Zelda I beat too. So many memories with BotW. Now, with TotK I know I’m going to enjoy this more and am really excited for it.

Nah I think the $70 price will hurt it. The fact it's not the new revolutionary thing. Yeah it's a much larger install base but there is also much more competition out there now as well rather than like one of the few options available for a brand new Switch at the time. With the weapon breaks, it took me 3 years as a super casual player to beat the first Devine Beast. I had fun with what I was able to do in BotW, and pre-ordered TotK. Remember at the time of botw’s release there weren’t many big games available. Now with all the choices people have…I don’t know. Install base is larger but there are hundreds of more games to choose from now too. Plus a lot of people who didn’t like botw probably won’t buy the sequel. I think BOTW will remain king. In my household of 7 switches we have 4 copies of BOTW. I bought a copy in late of 2017, my boys borrowed it and played it and ultimately we got 2 digital copies of each of them. When my husband bought his switch he got a physical copy in the bundle of his switch. But of the 7 switches in my house only 2 people enjoyed BOTW and will be getting TOTK. Those of us who are old school Zelda fans didn't enjoy BOWT and have no interest in TOTK. This may just be my own empirical data, but it's food for thought.

I can't see TOTK outselling BOTW, for two reasons: 1: BOTW released on two systems. I personally bought it three times. Wii U physical, Switch physical, Switch digital. 2: You basically have to play BOTW to play TOTK. So any person who likes the look of TOTK and hasn't played BOTW is basically rushing out to buy BOTW right now. KZbin is currently full of brand new first-time BOTW let's-plays, and Zelda fan groups I'm in on Facebook are also full of posts by people who were motivated to try BOTW for the first time after the big TOTK trailer dropped. So BOTW's sales are going up right now, because of TOTK. So I think TOTK can at best match BOTW's Switch sales, and those Wii U sales will always give BOTW that little lead.

I bought Breath Of The Wild three times. On the Wii U, on my Switch, and my daughter’s Switch. Breath Of The Wild was on two systems, and one of them wasn’t at all popular, and took some doing to install. But I only had a Wii U at the time. I got my Switch a year later. I think to truly understand Tears Of The Kingdom, you gotta play Breath Of The Wild first. It’s hard to say if it will sell more, but I’ve got my copy reserved.

First of all the 70 dollar , €, £ issue is bypassed by paying for the vouchers that nintendo online offers which makes the price drop to 45 £ which is cheaper than BOTW original .
