if I may, din is the goddess of power, that doesn't mean she has a deep lust for power or a superiority complex. it's like the difference between superman and darkseid. both are immensely powerful but where one seeks to use that power for personal gain and dominion the other uses his power to help people and make things better. I would say ganondorf isn't din's champion but merely that her aspect attract those of his ilk. moreover din only crafted the land, farore was in charge of making living things. if something was alive under the earth farore was the one that is responsible for it's existence. besides their is less then nothing in the lore to support the idea that din is hyrule's morgoth. just the opposite, in oracle of seasons she is portrayed as kind, compassionate, and playful. even so the goddesses only started the worlds existance, they likely simply created the world and then left it to grow and evolve on it's own in it's own direction. this is to say they gave life to the world but it's up to that world to, with it's own free will, decide what it does with that life. from hylias existence and the fact that the tower of the gods is called that rather then the tower of the goddesses we know that other lesser deities exist besides the three creator goddesses. some perhaps who are more malevolent. majora's mask is basically a mad god. and the fact that demise is called a demon would suggest that his kind oppose the divines. personally I like the idea that lana is more the true champion of power. I know she has blue hair (and her true form has white hair) but then links hair isn't green and zelda's isn't blue. there is a hint at this in one of her weapons. the gate weapon, which is likely the power she wielded as the witch, is primarily used by dancing. all of it's attacks are triggered by lana doing particular dances. well din is a dancer. nayru is associated with the harp and guess what instrument zelda is always shown as favoring, the harp. even farore who lacks a commonly associated instrument is associated with wind. and the instruments link is associated with is the ocarina, which is a wind instrument, and the WIND waker. so based on that lana comes across as the true herald of din. you know in the backstory given by the great deku tree he says that the triforce was created by them leaving the world. so it's rather like a series of three portals connected to the divine realm. that's kinda similar to how, in the elder scrolls lore, magic comes from aetherius and the stars and sun are supposedly holes into aetherius created when the gods fled from nirn. in that regard the triforce is a byproduct of the goddesses work and not some intentional boon.

The trait of "hungry for power" was never attributed to Din in any source I am aware of, and doesn't make much sense. Why would the Goddess of Power, an embodiment of power, be so lacking in power to be hungry for it? Demise seems to make it clear that he hates the gods and goddesses and wishes to take revenge upon them, so why would Din create an avatar that seeks her downfall while arming it w/ a part of her own power? Also, how would the Goddess of Light Hylia be created by another Goddess to be their avatar? Theory also doesn't mention Hylia's hypothesis on why the Goddesses created the Triforce, which is the only source of this query in the canon. It's more likely that there is a god vs demon backstory to explain Demise's grudge (possibly ruling prior to Goddess's creation?), so he's seeking some of their divine power before round two.

Interesting theory, and I have two things I'd like to add: 1. The idea of the goddesses not intervening too much and leaving the triforce is probably because they want to see how their creation (humans) will treat their creation (the world) but it doesn't stop them from intervening when someone, of course, calls them with the triforce. 2. The idea of the world and humanity being puppets for the goddesses makes sense when you look at real world polytheistic religions, especially the Greek/Roman myths. Humanity was the plaything of the gods. The gods even had, in a manner of speaking, "chosen" heroes.
@kotlolish7 жыл бұрын
There is one thing about the triforce that still bothers me to this day. It's abillity to communicate to Link in the Fallen Hero timeline. Why did it start speaking after that? Why did Link's Wish get granted instantly and Ganon's wish took centuries and couldn't dent it? Does the triforce have an own will all along o.O?
@travisrandall91347 жыл бұрын
kotlolish maybe because in the down fall timeline the good were losing and the evil winning. so to balance things, they decided to give the downfall incarnation of Link an edge, a helping hand. therefore that link could talk to the goddesses via the triforce and Gannon had to wait for his wish. plus doesn't Gannon basically become mindless in that timeline? maybe the lack of a mind inhibits his wish making?

Travis Randall but that still wouldn't make sense, Ganon or more like Demises hatred and malice incarnation still has varying degrees of intelligence even if it doesn't seem so. take Zelda breath of the wild for example where he used ancient sheika tech and used it to his advantage.
@DragonEleven7 жыл бұрын
My way of seeing it is that it all comes down to balance... good and evil cannot exist without the other, and therefore one cannot be destroyed without destroying the other... Din, Nayru and Farore realised this, so facing their impending destruction, created Hyrule as their legacy before returning to the war with their evil counterparts. Their mistake was leaving Hylia to protect the world they had created, as her evil counterpart (Demise) would inevitably have appeared before long... and the conflict between the two ultimately led to their mutual destruction... but not before both ensured that a part of themselves would live on indefinitely... essentially cursing Hyrule with the eternal conflict between good and evil. Seeing this, the goddesses likely realised their mistake, causing them to be reluctant to interfere any more, in fear of just making the situation worse... hence why in the event of the Great Flood, they simply made it so that neither side won.

1. it was never stated that THE 3 GOLDEN GODDESSES were responsible for flooding Hyrule. All we know are "The God's" did it. 2. Hylia is probably the Goddess of time, not proven but so obvious. This would actually support your Naryu theory really well. 3.Oracle of Seasons completely contradicts your theory of Din. Although ti could be argued this Din has no relation to the Golden Goddess. 4. The cycle starts because of Demise, there's nothing to suggest Demise has any relation to the Golden Goddesses. Obviously no evidence to suggest Link or Hylia has any connection either. Still, I like the idea of the Goddesses having a battle through their creations. I just don't see any reason to believe Din would be represented by evil. Also OOT makes the the 3 golden Goddesses look exactly the same and have no emotion, symbolizing there is neither good nor evil in the triforce, a sentiment which is echoed among many zelda titles.. The Triforce should be a reflection of it's creators, meaning the 3 Goddesses should not have any alignment toward good or evil.
@kotlolish7 жыл бұрын
The thing is.. it was never stated WICH gods flooded it. As there are numerous other deities in hyrule. We can only "Assume" they did it. 3: The oracles were only used as represenations, not as the counterparts. 4: Yet who created Demise? Was he fallen deity who was created by the goddesses like the other deities?
@nworder4life7 жыл бұрын
kotlolish right, which is what I said... We don't know which God's flooded Hyrule. We don't know where Hylia comes from either, all the God's which includes the dragons and other lesser deity's have to come from somewhere.
@KadajjXIII7 жыл бұрын
+kotlolish I like to think Demise came from Lorule, the inverted Triforce on his sword (which is what Lorule's is like) plus a fissure from the Earth? That doesn't necessarily mean it /HAD/ to be from the "ground". Side of a cliff would work just as well for example. We were never explicitly told how long ago Lorule wished for their Triforce's destruction so maybe because of all the dark & warped stuff that happened there perhaps even their Master Sword was affected and became a blade of evil thus explaining why Demise's Sword has the Inverted Triforce on it. Also if you compare them they're both an actual being as well as a weapon. Fi /IS/ the sword just as is Girahim, Fi simply chooses to project her consciousness out rather than fully transform as Link needs a weapon. Girahim's Master, Demise, currently cannot use him thus it's more beneficial for himself to fully transform. I do not claim credit for this theory as bits & pieces if it are from various different theories but never hurts to spread more interesting Zelda theories as there's such a vast unknown to everything, as a Legend should have.
@kotlolish7 жыл бұрын
That is another theory but that would mean Lorule was created at the same time as Hyrule.
@KadajjXIII7 жыл бұрын
+kotlolish We don't know how/when Lorule came about, it could be older, younger or even the same age as Hyrule. All that's really required for this theory is that Lorule exists during the same time period as when Demise invaded Hyrule. And Yuga even resembles Demise in a way yet is a denizen of Lorule so perhaps Demise's curse not only affected the Hyrulian Hero & Princess but, their Lorule equivalents as well so both would never be free of his tyranny for too long. It's never explicitly stated only Ganondorf is Demise Incarnate. He's just the only confirmed one as far as I can recall. Yuga, & the other big bosses of the DS Zelda games plus Tri Force Heroes (never played those so knowledge retention from them isn't the best) could be as well considering the Hero & Zelda are both alive then. Vaati is somewhat possibly as well but that's probably stretching it pretty thin. Also, just in case it seems to the contrary I'm not trying to be an ass, merely debating & theorizing & if I've come off as anything else I apologize.

My theory is that the 3 goddesses created Hyrule as a playing field for their games they play, similar to playing chess. Every so often they would play the game, using their "heroes" as their main pawn. The Triforce is a sort of "power up" to protect and obtain to gain some sort of advantage. They would watch and advise the game, but never fully partake, only able to use an extent of their abilities to bestow upon their "hero."

This is actually my theory for most deities. When you're eternal and all powerful...things can get dull pretty fast. So you create a universe and let it go on its own for a while, maybe giving things a nudge here and there, but never directly changing things unless it seems necessary. Basically, they created everything so they'd have something good to watch on TV.

Hmmm... This was an interesting idea. I do hope we get a game in the future that fully features the three goddesses. Hell, maybe there is a Hierarchy above them even like they were essentially above Hylia.

The consistency of the cycle is the cycle of testing. Zelda and Link are given a chance to save the people ( good or evil)from jugment by defeating Ganondorf/Ganon. The likely outcome is ganon is defeated and skips the cycle of judgment. As seen in breath of the wild (and windwaker story) in Links memories the outcome if they fail. The people are killed by guardians(or a flood) with some suvivors. Thus making way for the cycle of calm before another cycle of testing. This just states that a hero will arise to face the cycle of testing. The cycles themselves ensure the populance to remain pure and as long as the world in which hyrule exists the cycles will keep going.

Right when you wondered at the end about why the three goddesses wouldn't stand in each other's way, I am reminded of the pagan elements explanation(s) about how none can baliwick in the other's world without permission and the three of four elements are represented here. Fire can scorch the Earth, but Earth needs Fire in order to kill dead to promote new growth. Water can drown Earth, but water is needed to hydrate the seed of life. Earth can smother the flame(s) of Fire and dry up Water, but there would not be life proper. Wind is usually created by difference(s) in temperature and can leave Earth scatter-brained, fuels Fire, and can assist evaporation of Water, but wind is needed to scatter the seeds of life, help Fire burn dead growth, and scatter seeds to areas of better hydration. I like to think that the creators of LoZ took this into account when creating the three goddesses. Then again, the three primary colors of the spectrum are red, blue, and yellow and this just could be creating a hero's (possibly heroine's) tale through multiple levels and facets through similarities of story-telling. Once again, mine is just a thesis.

This theory makes me think of The Slayers Universe. The Lord of Nightmares created the worlds, and each world has it respective gods and demons who rule over it, fighting one another for control. I kind of see Demise as the counterpart to Hylia, the other side of the coin, who, in a twisted sort of way, is also a guardian to the Triforce. His desire to obtain more power of himself presents him and his successors as obstacles and rivals to any mortal who would seek to obtain it (either for good or ill).

Zac again.. IMPOSSIBLE. The triforce was SCATTERED. Ganondorf had the Triforce of Power. OoT link shattered the Triforce of courage. They only had the triforce of wisdom wich as far as I recall. Does NOT have that kind of power. The king could NOT have used the triforce at all as for that SAME reason Ganondorf could have used it to counteract it, but he didn't. There is MORE at play here then saying "Triforce did it"

Each timeline after "Ocerina of Time" looks like it matches with each of the gods. Din get's the Decline of Hyrule timeline. (Obviously since Ganondorf won...) Farore got the child timeline. (Based on Majora's mask and it's lack of direct connections to Zelda and Ganondorf.) And Nayru got the adult timeline. (Based on water being her element that was used to flood Hyrule, and Zelda's more direct involvment.) What if they set these timelines up as a sort of "What If" scenario, or peaceful compromise? For example: "See Din, in your version Hyrule sucks!" "Yeah, but at least I didn't flush it like Farore."

What if each of the timelines represent the outcomes of the three goddesses gaining the ability to use the power of the triforce? Downfall timeline is where Din's incarnation won, the child timeline where Nayru's incarnation won, and the adult timeline where Farore's incarnation won? What if they are testing the balance and seeing what would happen if one were to have to much sway on the events in the world

The way I see it the three golden goddesses made the world as more of some sort of experiment to see how a wold of life could exist with such a temptingly powerful object such as the triforce within it. Its basically a hyped up ant farm to see what the end results will bee and thats why they rarely intervene.

I'm not so sure of Din creating Demise, myself... I could just as easily see Demise existing before the world of Hyrule was made, and being "trapped" by Din until he broke free in Skyward Sword. Ever since I saw the original OoT creation myth, I've thought it odd that it implied that the goddesses created only those creatures that would "uphold the law", suggesting that evil came from elsewhere (beyond or before the creation, for example); demise being from outside their creation would make sense. As for whether the goddesses are using the world as a game board of sorts, I honestly couldn't say, as to be honest the entire question of why any deity would create any world is a big conundrum for any universe.

I think that Farore and Nayru were helping humanity but Din like you said was power hungry and Farore and Nayru tried to reason with her but a war broke out between the three but Din was too powerful so they tried until Evil was finally sealed with Ganon in The legend of zelda breath of the wild.

Wait, so is the Fallen Timeline Power, the Child Timeline Courage, and the Adult Timeline Wisdom? In the Fallen Timeline, Power is the one the persists. With Power, Ganondorf wins, and with power, the sages seal him away. In the Child Timeline, it is Courage that persists when Link wins and changes the course of time when he intervenes as a child, having the courage to attempt changing the timeline. I'm too lazy to provide anything more than that; feel free to actually look into this where I'm just speculating.

It may just be a theory but it makes sense, I mean it's fitting for gods to creat their own little game to find out who is truest the strongest one in an almost chess like fashion sound exactly what godly figures might do when there bored. I mean what does a god do when their bored or in conflict with the other gods create something to entertain them and settle the conflict, the gods in the link universe are probably are just restless and frustrated, they want to be right, they are gods they should want to be the one in control or rule with gods who think like them, they don't want somebody who only is greedy for power to be the one in control of all of reality for obvious reasons.

I liked the idea in general, but what if Farore and Din are opposites like Yin and Yang and Naryu is the one that should keep balance? Farore wants to create and protect life, but there can't be life without the land that Din creates. Din wants power, but what is power worth if there are no subjects to rule? Naryu could balance both forces and might be why it was Hylia that was left to protect the triforce.

I like the Hyrule is the goddess chess board to determine which of them perhaps is the greatest. For the issue about Naryu's avatar creating Farore's, could it be that those two goddess have an alliance together against Din? To balance the power difference, that could be borne out by the shape of the triforce. Another possibility I want to throw out is that perhaps the Goddesses created Hyrule to be Demises's prison. As for the triforce I kind of always thought its creation was sort of an accident, I believe the Duku tree says it was created when the three ascended to the heavens. I figured it was either A) something they created by accident, thus the need for it to be guarded b) perhaps as per your conflict theory it was an accidental created by their conflict thus the reason they decided to revert to proxy combat C) Maybe since the triforce was created by all three of them it has greater power than any one of them and the conflict is over who gets to posses it, hence why all the avatars go after it. D) Based on my theory that the trifoce was created by accident perhaps the goddesses lost a great deal of their power when that happened and that may explain their lack of direct involvement

@brendensmith30837 жыл бұрын
There are a few missed points that I feel put major dents in your theory. The first is the flames of the goddesses; in Skyward Sword, Link tempers his blade into the Master Sword by using the Sacred Flames, including Din's Flame. And, the text that you receive upon getting Din's Flame is that "your blade glows with a white light that demons revile." To put it even more simply, the tooltip in the pause menu for Din's Flame says that it gave the Master Sword "the power to repel evil". If Din Herself is evil, why would her flame imbue the sword with the glow that repels evil? Second, the light spirit Lanayru in Twilight Princess says that the goddesses created the world, granting "power equally to all who *dwelt in the light*", suggesting that none of them had any desire to give power to dark forces; they left Hylia, in a joint decision, to protect the Triforce from the evil that would however inevitably creep into the world. Third, as for why the Triforce was left, I'm not sure much theorizing needs to be done on that count, either. A Link Between Worlds shows what happens when a world loses its Triforce, suggesting that it has some central balancing power over the land it resides in that is necessary for its perpetual existence. Also, in Skyward Sword, Zelda/Hylia gives her theory on why it was left for the use of mortals *only*: to give hope to the people of the world. Finally, to address the central issue you bring up: The problem of Evil (in Hyrule). You say that the gods must be neutral about the well-being of their creation, because otherwise they would stop all evil from happening. I would counter that the gods refrain from intervening whenever possible (and who's to say how often they do interact with the world and nobody notices), and do this because they wished to grant freedom of choice, growth, and progression to all those "who would uphold the law". This has the consequence of also permitting evil people to do evil things; but I would point out that evil never ends up winning, does it? You'd think it would win about half the time if this whole "gods are completely neutral" thing were true. But the only "win" you could really consider for evil would be the death of the Hero of Time, which Nintendo just made up to make an excuse for a third split at OoT and which still ultimately results in Ganon's demise. Yes, a lot of people die, but then, a lot of people die anyways, just not in a war. If we're going to consider the godly perspective on things like wars and death, then you need to see that death doesn't mean all that much in the end; it's simply the passing of someone to another realm, and (as Majora's Mask beautifully portrays) needs to be grieved, but also accepted as a natural progression of life.

What if the reason why Ganon keeps hijacking the plot is because villains outside Ganon are far less predictable than him, if allowed to work their individual plans? Because “better the devil you know than the one you don’t.”

I personally always thought the triforce was a side effect of their powers creating the world which is why each individual one is imbued, for a lack of a better word, with part of each goddess' power. Maybe they avoid getting involved because they think it would be viewed as them having made a mistake and, as goddeses, they don't want be viewed as less then perfect.

you got to think too maybe by creating the world they used their essense and like hilya re-encarnated as mortal , then latter by doing some trials they remember their formal life and assumed new power. that could be the reason for the goddesses limited interference . think for a minute the oracles where supposed to be three games and ypu see the three with the same name as the godesses and in that game you are not in hyrule but a different place , maybe thats the place the godesses ended up re-encarnated. but your theory is a good one.

Zelda is also the reincarnation of the Goddess of Time not just a representation of Nayru, a 4th goddess. Wouldn't she be Hylia's representation with the newer stories? She is very closely associated with time besides wisdom. But she did have the Triforce of wisdom several times.

I just realized something. What if in the different timelines one goddess had more control than the others. For example in the downfall timeline Din had more control. In the adult Link Nayru had more control. In the child Link timeline Fayore had more control.

Apart from this one, you made other content talking about the hero's shade. I remember one part of twilight princess where Midna talks about a hero, a golden wolf with red eyes. I believe that it was intended to show that the hero of time was the one with the job of finishing Ganondorf. Also a posiblity, but I don't really can afirm is that the hero in breath of the wild is the hero of time. This one is maybe a bit hard, but he was sleeping/revived (also can't really tell) for a long time and MAYBE it's the trip to prepare the next hero the way to defeat Ganondorf. It also fits for me because it's the only hero who had "many" contact with things or persons related to the Sheikah, or even theirselves. Likewise, the sheikah stones gives some sort of information to the mind if you can trigger them to do so, and the hero's shade also makes something alike with the stones AND even himself in the wolf form. At the end of every training (or singing) we can see that Link was "sleeping" on the ground. I'm sorry for any grammatic error and also remember that this is just personal ideas. You can discust it with me but please don't trow the idea completelly away

RadicalDreamerz21 Another question would be "in what time line is this hero" is he resurected after his defeat, or was he put to sleep after majora's mask? By all that, we cannot tell for sure by now

NiLink NoLa Well we do know that Link wasn't put into a timeless slumber after Majoras Mask because the Hero's Shade in Twilight Princess is that Link. We know because of the Hero's Shade that the Hero of Time did die in that timeline.
@neor23547 жыл бұрын
RadicalDreamerz21 But there is the problem, I struggle on finding a place where the hero of the "breath"? is taking place. But I find it strange, and can't believe that we will know almost everything from the sheikah, but I do believe that the hero of time was destined to know more than most of the hylians something deeper about the sheikah tribe. It fits when we think that the howl stones in TP are alike the sheikah stones, and the hero of time builded them or was helped to do so from a sheikah (first idea is always Impa) the problem is still the situation in the time line for this new game, it will for sure change a lot depending where whe find it, but at least as fellow zelda lovers it is on ourselves to see the things we see on this great story

I always thought that the Tri-Force was left behind as a reminder that all living things need to work together to keep the natural balance else the world be destroyed. For example Two Worlds had its Tri-Force destroyed and if you didn't help them restore it they would have disappeared. The only thing I don't get is Demise, everyone forgets that he is the king of an underground kingdom which has never been touch on buy the Zelda series. Demise only came to surface to give a better life for his people but was turn back buy the people of the surface. That's why he attacked and sought the Tri-Force the same as his incarnations. He felt denied by the Goddess.
@matthewrenault78397 жыл бұрын
Been thinking about this for weeks before watching this. I do believe that Zelda, Link, and Gonondorf are the Goddesses. Now what I think be interesting and an Idea for the Zelda universe is that the Goddesses sacrifice themselves to crated the tri-force to trap a darkness that came to destroy life itself. For that reason, the tri-force has two sides of light and dark. Courage-Fear, Wisdom- controlment, and Power-greed. So when They were reincarnated, Din became demise because of tge darkness corrupt hwr heart and was full of greed. Ever since then, the darkness was trapped in Demise and Ganon. It would be interesting and a new villian to be used in other series. I also think it be great if all tge timelines came together to fix the alternate timelines to become one, like everything that happened in all three timelines fit together like new hyrule fro. the adult timeline was named something else if Hyrule was drained and brought old hyrule back. Then the other timelines built that place and looks the same, so when all timelines clash together. they become one timeline again since if time splits, a theory is that time will fix itself as one timeline. The tricky part is how to drain hyrule and how the master sword was removed. I believe the best way is that greedy Hylians found the tri-force under the sea and wish for hyrule back. Then the seal of the master sword was brokken and ganon is free again.
