Today we are going to take a look at the origin, secrets, mysteries, history and story of the downfall timeline of the zelda series. In this timeline ganon won and link the hero of time was defeated and princess zelda had to solve it on her own. There are multiple games set in this timeline like the legend of Zelda a link to the past, the legend of Zelda a link between worlds, the legend of Zelda triforce heroes and more. But how did this effect the races like the hylians, gorons and zoras? And what happened to hyrule castle and town? Well time to find out!

The Zora's change is linked to the quality of water that they live in. They are extremely adaptive as we can see. When the water was pure and sacred, they became the Zoras that we all know and love from Orcria of time, but when the water is polluted and dirty, the become hideous, hostile monsters.

Makes sense. Oren becomes all "fat" when her spring isn't pure and infact is dirty and dark. The scale purges the water and her body.

I really wish that would been enough, but trust me.. there are alot of silly nintendo things in Hyrule Historia that makes you rip your hair out. "I want to confirm this theory" The biggest offense to this is Four Sword Adventures. Great game but lore wise and time line wise... it breaks everything. Even Nintendo's current timeline since certain objects and items shouldn't be there.

The river Zora are a different type of Zora altogether. Them and the normal Zoras actually hate eachother as learned in one of the gameboy games. The Normal Zoras (i think they are ocean or sea zoras) are actually in a similar position to the gorons where they just dont live in Hyrule anymore.

All the "sea" type Zora's aren't in Hyrule. They live in spring of water or rivers.

kotlolish i am thinking of the breed from ocarina. I just dont remember which one they are specifically. My point is that they have a similar fate to that of the gorons in this timeline as they emigrated from hyrule and into other lands. In the video it makes it sound like they died out.

It's possible. But they would fight against Ganon non the less. You know they would. Also we cannot be 100% sure that Gorons and Zora's are HYRULIAN only. There are other kingdoms and the world of Zelda is much bigger. After all Termina isn't hyrule and they are there. Phantom Hourglass takes place in another reality and they are there. Gorons appear in New Hyrule. And the oracle games got it too. Also we know they can change rapidly acording to Wind Waker (Kokiri as well but the Zora's are more drastic) It makes more sense for them to be wiped out or corrupted. Otherwise the Goron's moved to alot of places and we know Gorons are well survivors as seen in Wind Waker. In the Trading Side Quest. You are always trading with Goron Merchants that traveled far and wide. So it's clear that gorons are atleast everywhere in the world.

I think it all makes sense, sure there are some things that don't fit but it's better to have a timeline than to have nothing imo. I think BOTW takes place right after OOT and before ALTTP. I have a feeling cataclysms eve refers to the time of calamity ganon.

Amazing video as usual! I would like to, however, point out one grammatical error that I hear in your video (as well as many others). When referring to something that can be quantified, in this case people, we should not say "less;" instead, we should say "fewer." For example: -Does the recipe call for 5 cups of water or fewer? (Appropriate because cups of water can be quantified) -If your spouse cooked soup and you felt as if it were too salty you could ask for less water. (Water is not quantifiable. Cups of water, molecules of water, number of atoms of Hydrogen in water are quantifiable, etc.) I hope this helps! can you really judge differences in map scale or town placement etc from oot and lttp when the prequel to the series was made years after the original games? most of these videos compare design choices far too far apart or hardware limitations. also are people assuming that the games need to happen literally right after each other? i always took the timelines as an order, like real myths, its not rigid and there could be large gaps in time between games to the point that each games story becomes legend and not fact

There is another possibility regarding the Zoras. In Oracle of Ages one of the Sea Zoras stated that they should not be mistaken for the savage River Zoras. While that took place in a different world it's possible that the Zoras from the decline timeline were a different group that killed the other group and took over.

Link's awakening comes after Oracles as it makes Link want to train in case Ganon comes back again... with the triforce following him as 3 seagulls. Infact in the downfall time line.. the Triforce seems more alive then anything.. But eh. They could have fled or were turned or a combination of all.

A Link to the Past is set a millennium after Ocarina of Time, as opposed to Twilight Princess being a century after Majora's Mask. So, as you alluded to, it is a much larger time gap. Also, if you reread that section of the Historia describing A Link to the Past and the events leading to it, you will find that the Pedestal in the Woods found in A Link to the Past is indeed the remnant of the Temple of Time. The New Lost Woods grew over the site of the former Castle Town, and the reason you don't see remnants of buildings (other than a small part of the Temple of Time, which might be preserved by some sort of magic) is because they have completely rotted away by then. By the way, although Kakariko Village has been moved as you rightly point out, the Village Graveyard in A Link to the Past is at the location of Ocarina of Time Kakariko Village. You even pick up a Piece of Heart (in A Link to the Past) from what is left of the Shadow Temple, a shallow cave with everything else being permanently sealed off. Maybe I'm missing something on this last point, but personally, I've always thought the Deadrock enemies in A Link to the Past *were* Gorons and that they suffered a similar fate to the Zoras, eventually becoming hostile.

I think that they just rebuilt Hyrule Castle south of Death Mountain after Ganondorf destroyed the first one. This would mean that the Kakariko Village in ALttP is the same one from OoT. The moat around the new Hyrule Castle most likely redirect the Zora river creating a new Lake Hylia while Hyrule Field from OoT dried up into a desert because of the lack of water from the Zora River. Between Ganon's imprisonment in the Dark World and the reconstruction of Hyrule Castle the Lost Woods spread up into where Castle Town used to be. When the Hylians rebuilt Hyrule Castle they chopped down the original Lost Woods, but the forest around Castle Town remained. The Master Sword rests in the ruins of the Temple of Time (the Hyrule Hystoria says that it does rest within the ruins of an ancient temple) deep within this new Lost Woods.

The way I see it, the Temple of Time was converted into the Sanctuary, which would keep its placement pretty similar to where it was in OoT. The pedestal room was converted into a secret passage and the Door of Time was changed to an altar with a hidden passage that leads to the new Hyrule Castle. The Master Sword was most likely moved to hide it in the new Lost Woods, in hopes that a new Hero would arise. But that's just a theory...

This vid was made way before BotW was released,but in breath of the wild the master sword’s location is rezoned to the lost woods,and the temple of time still exists but it’s severely damaged and Ganon knows where the temple of time is so they probably moved it to hide it from him

So, I don't know if you ever considered this, but I tend to assume that after the decline of Hyrule in the downfall timeline, the bodies of water all over Hyrule weren't necessarily tended to or watched over. Under the reign of Ganondorf, it wouldn't be too far of a stretch to believe that there was a lot of pollution in the rivers across Hyrule. I agree with and believe in the reasons you gave as to why the Zora act so different to Link, but could their drastic change in appearance be a result of polluted waters? I think it's plausible.

I'm not sure ... For me, the Dark World is the Futur World of OOT, the sacred Realm. A parallel, a Mirror universe of Hyrule. Ganon win again Link, the Hero of Time, and get the True Triforce. He transformed into Ganon the Demon King and corrumpt the World into Dark World. Zelda, the sages and other Hylian flee to the past. Ganon never return to the Past, the sage close the Door of Time in the Temple of Time for sealing Ganon and the Triforce in the Sacred Realm. But ... many year later, convoyers know about the Triforce and Want it ! The Sealing War, convoyers take weapons and force the door of Time for go to the Sacred Realm ! But Ganon has corrupted this World into Dark World. And the convoyers transformed into Monster. The Door of Time was open and a army of Demon attack Hyrule, the Hyrule Knigth figth and many are dead during this battle ... The Sages Seal the Door of Time forever. The Temple of Time was destroy by the conflict, there only the Pedestal of Time with the Master Sword. Many year after, the Magic Lost Wood appared around for protect the Master Sword. But Ganon use a Alter-ego, Aganhim the Sorcerer to break the seal of Sage and ALTTP scenario. ... For Goron. Rosso is probably a Goron-Hylian mixed , the descedant of the Sage of fire Darumia. That means Goron and Hylian can have ... Sex relation ... and Child ? But ... Goron can be found Outside of Hyrule, in Labrynna and Holodrum. Goron in Skyward Sword left the Ordinn mountain after the Demise demonick attack. And rebuild a society only during Minish Cap after fondation of Hyrule, in the Goron Cave and return to mont Gonggle that confirmed by Carlov Goron figurine. Goron in ALTTP can just have to left Death Mountain and Hyrule maybe because a political conflict with Hylians and The Royal family or for Survive of Dark World Demons attack. For the Zora, in OOT, Zoras are weak and peaceful ... For survive, the obtain the capacity of shoot fire Balls and use magical water portal to go every where in Hyrule. River Zora and Zora came from a same ancestor, the are cousin. But the Royal Family of Zora lost their influence and many Zora become anarchist and bad. Like in ALBW. For kokiri ... perhaps they hid in the Forest ... in Korogu form ? This is How I see the Story ...

I like the theory about the Sacred Realm being Hyrule's destroyed future, but the issue is it was there since SS (implied to be the Silent Realm) which predates Ganondorf and Ganon by a mile. Cool theory though.

There's an isolated village of sea Zora in Oracle of Ages so I wouldn't say that they didn't appear in that game. It just wasn't in Hyrule.

You missed one, their are 3 games in that timeline that has the Master Sword, though it is unkown if you would count Link's Awakening (being the first Legend of Zelda to actually have the Master Sword in it)

I will have to disagree on the Temple of Time. The Temple of Time being the Forest Pedestal isn't really backed up by the game itself, but the official artwork for ALBW shows a series of ruins around the Pedestal itself hinting that it was once a structure and not an anonymous pedestal. It's my belief that the Sealed Temple/Temple of Time/Sacred Grove/Forest Pedestal/Sunken Hyrule Castle are all one in the same and can be used as anchoring points to differentiate map changes that take place throughout the eras since only Link can draw the Master Sword (Skyward Sword goes farther and says only Link may wield it) it wouldn't make sense for it to continually move in such a fashion. I would say that the Sages would have tried to put the Master Sword back in its proper resting place to reseal one of the entrances into the Sacred Realm.

I don't know about Zelda 2, but you're wrong about Zelda 1: The "Magical Sword" obtained by Link having 12 Heart Containers, is essentially The Master Sword. Why they removed the 3 Trials of Virtue, or the Pendants of Wisdom, Power, & Courage? I'll never know

The downfall ganondorf is the saddest ganondorf. I mean child ganondorf doesn't have a character so it's hard to care for him. Adult timeline ganondorf dies after trying to restore the old hyrule kingdom. But downfall timeline ganondorf has lost all control and humanity he ever had after every botched resurrection started to turn him into a mindless beast.

The real reason ALTTP doesnt fit in so many ways with this is because they didnt think that far ahead lol. There are so many inconsistencies and plot holes in the timeline because many of the games were not designed with the timeline as we know it in mind. We dont know when they actually started being conscious of some kind of continuity with zelda. For that reason some connections and explanations will forever be unsolvable.

Actually, as long as you accept that the New Lost Woods grew over the ruins of Castle Town (which the Historia heavily implies), the maps fit very well from Ocarina of Time to A Link to the Past. The location of the Master Sword is the same, relative to Death Mountain. It's just that the Temple of Time rotted away leaving only a stone monument deep in the forest. In the Desert of Mystery, which is the desert in A Link to the Past and not to be confused with Gerudo Desert (another name for the Desert Colossus area, together with the Haunted Wasteland), you find bushes albeit brown and dead: Vegetation that should never have grown in the desert in the first place in order to die there as mature plants. Would Ganon not have burned down Kokiri Forest knowing that it was the childhood home of the Martyred Hero (another name for the Hero of Time, specifically in the Downfall Timeline)? Hence the Desert of Mystery. If you look at the layout of the Desert Palace (which is Level 2 in A Link to the Past), it has some common features implying that it is in fact the Forest Temple, just a thousand years later and the surrounding area now desert rather than forest. It even has the room with 4 torches near the entrance, though the elevator to go down to Phantom Ganon has been replaced with a Beamos. I could go on, but you see the point.

Seems like there is a geographical resemblance between Ordon Village from TP and Kakariko village from A Link To The Past. Maybe it's the same village built after OOT but after the timeline split, it was named Ordon in the Childhood timeline and Kakariko in the Downfall timeline. Resemblances between TP and ALTTP: -Castle in the middle of hyrule -A town right underneath the Lost Woods in the south of hyrule
