This is the most Overlooked Zelda Music References by far. In Ocarina of Time, Zelda's Lullaby finds its way into the theme of a character hidden from Ganon. Koji Kondo, the composer of Zelda 1, Zelda A Link to the Past, and Zelda Ocarina of Time, snuck an end game spoiler into the music. And no one noticed...

Her either immediately poofing away the moment you pull out the lens and aim it at her, have a dialogue akin to "hey watch where you aim that thing, spies of Ganondorf are everywhere", or even simply seeing the spoiler would be amazing. Because players don't normally think to do such a thing to PEOPLE in the game, so it'd be HUGE to find such a thing back in the day.

@@ZeldaMusicTheoryI’m just trying to get you to see this. The US and JP soundtracks differed in Zelda 2, and I was told it was due to the English localization team in the US being tasked with reworking it. I do believe this to be the case and them paraphrasing Zelda I for the purpose of music continuity, which I think Japan has overall less recognizable versions of the soundtracks but it is concluded that Koji Kondo didn’t compose the songs we are familiar with

That is a fantastic catch! During your hiatus, I discovered a reference that I had never seen mentioned before. The first three notes of Midna's theme (not Midna's Lament, though the two are related and the notes occur there too) can be found in the background of the original Dark World theme from A Link to the Past. At about 15 seconds in, there's a three-note phrase, quieter than the main melody, that seems identical to the first three melody notes of her leitmotif. Given the obvious thematic connections between the Twilight and the Dark World, I'm sure it's deliberate.

100%, I heard this about midway through last year and wrote a script for that video. It came about because the start or A button sound in a lot of games (including BOTW and TOTK) is the same. Like “CGD” in the key of C. And I heard it in Dark World theme and thought maybe the Twilight Princess vibe, “dark world” idea was referencing ALTTP. So I 100% agree with you and will definitely cover it at some point. Great discovery! And this is exactly the type of stuff I want to know, so ty for sharing.

Two things to point out. 1. Although the canon Shiek is just Zelda in a costume, in the Ocarina of Time Manga, Impa casts a Sheikah magic spell to physically transform Zelda into a male body. That little bit added to the confusion. 2. I took a cursory glance at this channel's videos and did not see anything specifically referencing the fact that the Skyward Sword theme, "Ballad of the Goddess" is actually just the core notes of "Zelda's Lullaby" played backwards. That would be a fun video to make.

I noticed that Sheik's theme has parts of Zelda's Lullaby in it back when the game first came out, but I just thought it was referring to Sheik being related to Zelda in some way (perhaps a trusted protector), and didn't consider that he was actually Zelda in disguise before it was revealed.

Often, when tired or stressed, I'll let out three little yawns that match the first three notes of Sheik's theme. Then I start humming the rest. It always relaxes me. Now I learn the iconic Zelda's Lullaby is hidden in there. My favourite Zelda tune just got more favouriter.

It's really a testament to how powerful music can be that hearing sounds and songs you associate with meaningful characters and moments brings you back and makes you feel them all over again. I started tearing up hard hearing the Dragon Roost Island leitmotif in Colgera's fight and even just watching this video hearing a couple seconds of Midna's Lament brought me back to when I was 10 years old playing Twilight Princess for the first time and being genuinely worried that my friend was gonna die. That moment is when I fell in love with Zelda and it's a big reason why TP is still my favourite to this day, the emotional weight of that story hits you like a freight train sometimes and the stakes are so much more personal than other Zeldas. You're not just trying to save the world, you're trying to protect your friends, the ones you've grown up with and the ones you've made along the way.

Before I would play but never finish the game, I would mostly reset everything for whatever reason but I remember connecting that more with Impa since to me both were protecting Zelda, but I didn't give much thought to it back then so the plot twist still was mind-blowing to me when I got there.

As someone who has grown with this incredible franchise, literally playing zelda 1, 2 and link to the past as some of my oldest and fondest memories, I will say definitively that I have noticed every one of these details short of the windwaker stuff (never had a game cube). One of my favorite details was the sun song trill just as the sun peaks over the ridge in the main theme of OoT. After I collected the song and signed in the next time it made the theme hit in a whole new way. That truly is the most powerfull and beautiful storytelling element the creator and composer utelized in these games. Every subtle detail hidden in the songs and sounds of the game that unveil little by little the layers of memory and triumph and remorse hidden in every note and every encounter. From the very first time you turn on the game, to the very last note of the ending credits, you will have your perspective changed, and the way a song can make you feel will change your life.

Hahaha thanks for the honesty! Sometimes people forget I’m just a dude filming out of my garage and editing 40 hours during evenings and weekends while working two jobs with a wife and daughter and no experience in recording, editing, etc. But I LOVE Zelda and its music and am very passionate about sharing these concepts with more people. And there are a lot of things I wish I could get more into, like deeper music theory concepts. But I’m very intentional with working KZbin to ensure I keep growing and reaching people. And that means doing videos people will click and continue to watch. I felt like I had like 12 really cool little things in this video, so maybe a viewer might have known 8 of them. But for example the Start screen in OoT coming from ALTTP? I had no idea and found that after I filmed. Or Zelda’s Lullaby being in the shape of a triforce, which I do believe was intentional. Or the harp connection between Sheik and Zelda. The Tear falling when you unlock a tower in BOTW I never noticed was actually connected to the bottom of a Sheikah symbol. The TP Zelda’s Robe, and Bill Trinen’s T shirt (that was a coincidence by the way). Most of this stuff I didn’t even know and learned during research for the video. And I’m obsessed with this stuff 😅 So I can’t see how anyone who likes Zelda music could possibly watch a video like this one and not at least appreciate 1 cool thing they didn’t know before. That’s the goal at least 😃 Also being my first video back I wanted it to do well, I’ve learned more about KZbin during my 8 month break. And this being such an essential Zelda game and such a cool find that the internet literally has nothing covering it, I felt it deserved a high quality video to spotlight it. Thanks for watching!

For extra fun... Realize the eyelashes kinda make arrows that point left, up, and right... Which is the three notes for Zelda's Lullaby. But because they are slanted up, you are also given a hint on how the notes were changed too. You can change the octave of the ocarina on several consoles by holding a direction on the movement stick or by holding the Z button (Z button doubles the impact of the adjustment).

I also remember the first time I saw the triforce creation scene, I got goosebumps when I heard the LttP opening woven into it, I got so excited since it was (and still is) my favorite Zelda game and opening theme

Zelda's lullaby in shiek's theme is much more than just those 6 notes. the whole arc after ward mirrors the next phrase in zelda's lullaby too, even very intentionally hitting the same high note. before descending again -- hitting the same notes once again in the cadence of the phrase.

100% !!! Yes I love that piece and it is really more Zelda-like than Mario-like. But both were written by Koji Kondo, most Zelda music first 15 years and Mario 64. So it makes sense you see similarities in his compositions.

Zelda music, especially ALTTP, OOT, and MM makes my heart literally skip a beat so it's amazing and beautiful to see somebody dedicate this much attention and love for one of my most longest lasting and my personal most important and loved aspects of Zelda. A lot of Zelda lovers I've admitted my eternal adoration and deep emotional connection with regarding the music of Zelda have looked at me like I'm bleeding from my eyes and teeth. Some people just don't get that connection but we do! Oh, and subbed

Yeah, people shouldn't shy away from the true nature of what OoT looked like and increasing the framerate just makes it look less cinematic really

@@ZeldaMusicTheory I'm probably in the minority, but to me it looks worse in the same way that the Hobbit movies looked like a TV show compared to TLOTR, because they were shot in 60fps

@@ZeldaMusicTheoryI think the 60FPS mod has become crazy popular, and I get why, especially with modern hardware making games running at 24FPS or less feel like a mistake, but I have two good reasons for preferring the older footage: I have nostalgia for the feel of the original, and seeing it move in 60FPS is like seeing the best black and white film coloured in, it's a little uncanny valley. I preface this second point with 'YOU HAD NO WAY OF KNOWING, IT'S ALL GOOD MY MAN' but I have a rare form of epilepsy and for whatever reason, games running above 30FPS give me motion sickness if I play/watch footage of them for too long, and this mod, combined with Timesplitters 2, sets it off big time. I know some creators get a little tense when they read something like this, but trust me you had no way of knowing, and I would prefer for you to keep the channel on course, exactly as you intend it, because at the end of the day, if you're not wholly satisfied, it WILL come through. Again though, thank you for this entire channel and the work you put in, I'm learning about decades old games that I thought I knew inside and out, and that's super fucking cool to me!
@ZeldaMusicTheory

Hahaha sorry for number two, and I’m glad I can share some cool stuff with you! I hope there is a solution like watching KZbin with a different setting to help. My only concern is that the newer versions are not Nintendo sanctioned, and I don’t play Roms for that reason. Even if I own the game. And I’m one of those guys who still buys every remake and plays on Nintendo Online (when I play which is very rare these days lol). Hopefully you are able to keep watching my channel 👍🏼😁 Either way I try to make the audio as good as possible so even if someone didn’t watch they would still get a great experience. Thats the goal anyway.

Same here - I just heard it in the beginning of the theme instead, which are the notes of Zelda's lullaby in another order and a different key.
