So when Congress decided to enact a costly premature termination of the F-22 program so that it could focus on the F-35, you had no problem with that. You have no problem with the fact that we spend more on defense than the next twenty countries combined spend on defense. That’s all fine and good, because we need to keep the evil powers of the world in check. But when we start sending resources so that an ally can fight against an antagonistic invading power that is essentially the #1 military threat that we face in the world, you suddenly care about poor people in our streets, and you think we should help them instead of spending money to fight against evil conquerors. From a purely self-serving and cynical perspective, any money that we spend helping Ukraine is money well spent, in that it weakens our biggest military rival much more than we would weaken them by spending ten times as much on domestic military preparations. From an objective and altruistic perspective, Russia has shown itself to be not only a country that intervenes militarily in the affairs of other countries (as we do), but as an expansionist aggressor that, even in the 21st Century, follows a doctrine of invade-and-annex. Whenever I see someone in the US arguing against support of Ukraine, it is always a Republican, and I find that very disconcerting, because according to stated principles of the Republican Party, we have every reason to send this and more to Ukraine to help them. Yet Republicans continue with this nonsense. This is yet another example of the gradual self-destruction of American political conservatism. True patriots. As a final note, I do recognize that many Republicans do support Ukraine and agree with what I have said here.
