What Zelensky has shown is not new. Poland ... and also Turkey, Hungary, Slovaks and of course, Russia, (perhaps to a lesser extent as they kept symmetry there) ... have had many situations in bilateral histories when what we call Ukraine (100 years young country) and in historical reality bands of Cossacks had shown two faces or stabbed in the back their 'friends'. During WW II, Germans employed Ukrainians to the most brutal, immoral 'jobs' (e.g. 'keeping order" in concentration camps, exterminating local populations like Mongols used to thousand years ago,... in Warsaw, Wołyń,..check internet's depositories). The speech of Zelenski unmasked a little those character threads of 'Ukrainian' elites, which have been known to its neighbours for centuries. As a 'good' example, search for two diplomatic letters (well, only one was diplomatic) by Sultan Mehemed IV and Ukrainian Cossack military leader of the Zaporozhian Cossacks, Ivan Sirko (where the current offensive occurs). The Cossacks narration was so 'interesting' that it found its place in the world's literature, music, and art of painting. For French speakers, I recommend a poem by Guillaume Apollinaire 'Réponse des Cosaques'..

Russia has assumed that it has a right to take the Security Council seat of the USSR. The other former parts of the Soviet Union have things to say about that. In time, as Russia's defeat in its war of aggression becomes complete, parts of the Russian Federation can be expected to break away. Russia's economy is about the size of Italy and shrinking. It is not a world power. As a US politician said 20 years ago, 'Russia is a gas station with nuclear weapons'.

Ukraine is currently defending itself against Russia. Zelensky shows solidarity with his fighters by wearing simple military gear and you will note he isn’t parading around in medallions and chains and gold braid. He wasn’t wearing military gear before the war of aggression against his nation and will revert back to his civilian gear once Russia has been defeated.

@@magpiegirl3783 Every El Presidente in history that always dressed in military clobber also had a similar excuse of solidarity with the army and tales of enemies abroad to justify it too. Ukraine dealt with the devil in its scheming with NATO and the EU knowing it would provoke war. Zelenskii is complicit in that and he has thrown quarter of a million of his own people into the meat grinder with forced conscription to fight an unwinnable war. He is a butcher, just like all the rest.
